The original production component number is 54540-19B00,54540-19B10 from Suzuki, even if the application chart does not list it as a direct replacement for my 300 king quad front brake cylinders (chart / website does not show ATV's). You can now remove the two bolts holding the wheel and brake drum in place by first removing the bleeder valve, followed by the brake line. There is enough play in the brakes to get them into the grooves if you have the automated adjustment bar; all you have to do is push it with a screwdriver. (I had to turn mine over so they were parallel to the pads; this should take approximately 15 minutes per side.)

This wheel cylinder's pistons are constructed in layers so they may be precisely bored to the right depth to accommodate various shoe link Pin lengths. I had to drill out the pistons in my 1996 Dodge Dakota 4WD pickup in order for the shoe link pins to correctly seat on the cylinder. No drill press is mine. Therefore, I carefully held the pistons in a vise to remove the layers of material while using a hand drill to bore out just enough material to allow the shoe link pins to fit. After I accomplished so, the link pins on the primary and secondary shoes were properly positioned. Then it was installed perfectly as if it were OEM. I can now brake with the rears again.

I suffered a blowout in my steel brake line. I'm quite fortunate that I avoided an accident. Upon inspection, I discovered that the lines had numerous heavily rusted, crusty patches. Very unsettling, therefore I made the decision to replace the majority of the brake system's parts.As many Dakota owners are aware, this truck destroys the braking rotors and pads up front. I've also experienced numerous infamous Dakota front caliper lockups. Naturally, I changed the front rotors, calipers, pads, and hoses as well as both rear wheel cylinders, rear shoes, rear hardware, and rear hose. I switched over to 3/16 ni-copp line for the entire brake line. Although it costs almost twice as much as steel line, it is DOT approved and will never rust. In comparison to steel line, it is also much easier to deal with. Although I did use two bending tools, some complex bends may be made by hand without kinking.My mechanic admitted to me that he had previously seen few customers who had rusted out, ruptured steel brake lines. He stated that he now receives 1 or 2 per month. Something to consider. Take a look at your steel brake lines! To acquire a harder brake pedal, I needed braided stainless steel front brake hoses for my truck, but I was unable to locate any that were specifically for the 2002 Dakota. Looks almost exactly like the motorcraft I discovered on my 2001 Windstar, which has travelled 175k miles. I was relieved to pick them up because one of the old ones fell off and leaked braking fluid everywhere as soon as I pulled a shoe off; I had no trouble installing them and they didn't leak. My recommendation would be to simply replace the rear brakes given the cost and the fact that self-bleed kits are inexpensive and that OEM Tools makes a good one.

It is an 8mm screw, so you might need a deep offset box wrench. Transfer your old wheel cylinder's metal adapters to the new one by pulling them out and pushing them in.You will need a 14mm flare nut wrench and a 13mm socket wrench for the GM truck application's two retention bolts.Get some brake fluid as well; any Dot 3 or 4 will do, but AC Delco's is available on Amazon if you want to keep it in the family.
