UPDATED with a tragic narrativeI used this device to burn a dozen or so CD-Rs and possibly a dozen DVDs for data backups. Additionally, I read about 50 CD-R data backups that I had previously created with a different burner. It began having trouble reading CD-R, but I figured it was because of the outdated optical media. I began playing with CD-ROMs and CD-DA; it no longer reads or writes CD media at all, but DVD media still functions.I spoke with the vendor for an RMA. They suggested I get in touch with Lite-On.I called Lite-on and they advised me to obtain an RMA from the seller.Okay. I informed the seller, who requested a copy of Lite-reply, On's which I had already included in the email. :-The serial number, which I had already given in an email, was then requested by the seller. Sadly, I dislike this design.I will name names if this blows up, but if they come through, I will leave it all behind me. Seller claims they are in the process of obtaining an RMA.I saw there was a refurb available from a different seller, and I've had fantastic experience with refurbs in the past, so I figured I'd get another one and save any RMA replacement as a spare. Seller (M-Wave) shipped extremely quickly. This drive was not, in my opinion, repaired or even inspected.The door refused to budge. Weird. There is only a pleasant whir, no grinding or hanging. Using the paperclip approach, I physically opened the drawer and discovered that the drive belt for the drawer was loose (see pic). I used a pick to get it back and put it on the pulleys. Joy!No, give up. Regardless of whether a disc is there, the drive clacks and won't stay closed. It appears that the drive head may not be rising into position properly. I requested a replacement, but it seems that Prime only processes refunds. Fine.I gave up on this particular model drive and simply purchased a Samsung:Internal Optical Drive with 24x SATA DVD RW from Samsung (SH-224FB/BSBE)Original assessment ====Excellent drive, as expected from Lite-On, according to insiders. You really can't get much better than this optical drive for $22, though.After 4 years of reliable use, my previous Asus DVD-RW failed, so I went ahead and got this (OEM) Asus DVD-RW optical. It operated normally for around 20 days before acting strangely. In full expectation of being forced to return a $19.50 DVD-RW that is not worth my effort to mail back, I called Amazon and described how the new Asus DVD-RW I purchased was no longer working.Amazon took action! When (Asus refused!) they sent me a replacement drive that is fully functional. I appreciate Amazon's sales and technical staff letting me get a new drive without having to ship the old one back. What I liked about this drive was that I just opened the box, plugged it in, and it started working straight away without any setup. My drive is mostly used to burn CDs for work purposes, and the program I used recognized it without any problems. Burning CDs at the same pace as the drive I replaced is a positive thing.The only thing that worries me is how thin it seems. Although its light weight is wonderful for portability and modest usage, it doesn't feel as lasting as the more robust drive this is replacing if you burn, say, 30 CDs at once, as I do. I was in need of a somewhat cheap method to backup to physical media, and after some investigation, I chose this guy. You can find ratings all over the place if you read the reviews. Given how few computers these days come with optical drives, it shouldn't be shocking that some people don't understand that some operating systems don't come installed with DVD player software!Some individuals also objected to the fact that the product listing didn't make it obvious that it included a DEMO version of the Nero program. My CD included a paper sleeve with a large white sticker that read, "This Trial version will NOT EXPIRE after 30 days," so clearly there were enough complaints.In my "tool-free" tower case, installation was a breeze; but, if you have a conventional case, be advised that this came with a SATA cable (for data), but NO SCREWS. Be mindful that you might need to purchase 2-4 little metal screws to hold the drive in the case as I've had cases in the past where the optical drive slots were nothing more than bare metal cages.The SATA cable I received was broken, thus I took one point off. Fortunately, I had a spare laying around from a previous project; otherwise, I would have sent the entire thing back. The drive had power (it spun up and the tray would pop out, so I knew it was the cord), but Windows didn't identify the drive.After I changed the cable, Windows automatically detected it without the need for any third-party drivers.It appears to function as planned.

The Wii I own is currently somewhat outdated. My children put a disk in it the other day, and it refused to read it, so I acquired it about a year after they were first released, and it has functioned flawlessly ever since. I looked around and discovered that I didn't have a tri-lobe screwdriver, so I knew I had two options. I could buy a tri-lobe screwdriver, disassemble the Wii, and hope that wiping the laser with alcohol-soaked cotton swabs would bring it back to life, or I could spend marginally more than twice as much to buy a brand-new DVD player that comes with the screwdriver. Obviously, that was a simple decision! On Saturday, I placed the DVD player order. We have a distribution center approximately 50 miles north of me, so by Sunday afternoon I had the DVD player. Shortly after installing the replacement DVD player, the Wii returned to regular operation. This install is quite simple to complete if you've ever used a computer or laptop. The old DVD player's laser was cleaned, and I saved it in case I needed one in another ten years.

My Wii would only rarely accept Wii discs and make obnoxious clicking noises while doing so. After numerous failed attempts to clean and repair my Wii, I have become an expert at disassembling it. I discovered this device on Amazon for a very affordable price. I was in a pinch because I bought my daughter Mario Kart and a few Wii Wheels for Christmas and needed the item quickly; I was aware of some more expensive possibilities, but Lsgoodcare delivered. Installation took only ten minutes because I had the Wii disassembled and was prepared. Now, Wii games load without a hitch. One restriction is that GameCube discs are not accepted, but this is really a small issue given that my other options included paying $80 for a repair, purchasing a secondhand Wii, or purchasing a Wii U. As the seller does not mention GameCube discs in the description, I assumed they would not function.
