On launch day, I received the Fire TV Stick 4K. Although I own the earlier model, this is a vast improvement. The remote is a significant improvement, to start. With only one click of the power button, the fire stick will be on screen and ready to use. The power button on the remote can turn on my TV, my receiver, and the fire stick. It can also switch the inputs automatically. It's very lovely. It should have been like this all along. Even better, however, what if my TV is already on and my receiver is configured to use a different input, like my FIOS TV box? All you have to do is press the home button on the remote to change the receiver's hdmi input to the appropriate one for the Fire Stick! There is just one remote control for everything, and it also regulates the receiver's volume! This is really good. It is quite customizable. The setup is really good. You can specify which inputs are selected when the power and home buttons are pressed. Which device the volume buttons control can be specified. The Fire Stick 4K is a superb product from Amazon.It moves more quickly than earlier fire sticks. The menu lag is gone. Overall, things are going faster and smoother. I've used Fire Stick, Chromecast Ultra, and Roku. All of them appeal to me for various reasons. I don't like Chromecast because it won't support Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 audio, which prevents 5.1 audio from working on my receiver. DD5.1 is easily handled by Fire Stick. My enjoyment of using Netflix and Plex is much increased by this. The remote is preferable to not having one (chromecast). Rokus are also excellent. All three of these options are excellent in their own right, and although I had previously considered the Fire Stick to be the least desirable, I have since realized that I actually prefer it. As a result, I pre-ordered the 4K Fire Stick and could not be happier with it. Amazon must continue its outstanding work. The 4K stick is a reliable device and a fantastic improvement over the older design.

My experience with these technologies was limited because high speed internet, wi-fi, etc., did not arrive in my area until very recently. The first was chrome cast, which was fine except that I had to carry my laptop into the living room because I don't like watching on a little screen. Although it's not a major issue, it's nonetheless odd. It was also a little difficult for me to set up. Finally, I made the purchase of the fire stick. I've read some evaluations that are quite specialized and out out of my league. I'll keep it short and sweet. For me, the Fire Stick has been fantastic. It was easy to set up. I only have a reasonably new, inexpensive HD TV; it isn't smart. Both the sound and the image are excellent. I haven't observed any technical issues, if any exist. Although I still need to practice navigating the screens, it will happen in due course. I'm becoming used to speaking to machines, yet I still use the polite word "please" when speaking to Alexa. I've already used a few snow days to finish watching "The Blacklist" seasons 1 and 2, and I'm halfway done with "Bosch." I haven't had time to see any movies yet. The amount of options is mind-boggling. All of this suggests that I am an older person, I suppose. I know I am, and I think the Fire Stick is the best invention since the VCR. For my fellow seniors who might be a little hesitant to attempt something new or outside of their comfort zone, I would definitely recommend it.

I was ultimately just slightly satisfied. Initial setup was simple. But I was shocked to see that several stations' videos wouldn't stream; instead, I only received sound and error code 020. (Note that I attempted to connect our Roku to an HDMI signal switch.)It appears that many of the HDMI signal changers and splitters available on Amazon are not HDCP compliant. (HDCP is a type of digital copy protection; I wasn't aware of it before I started troubleshooting this Roku.) Many of the Roku's available channels make use of HDCP. As a result, we were unable to stream material from those channels from the Roku to our TV using our HDMI switch/splitter. The Roku support post on HDCP problem signals largely discussed unplugging and replugging devices and turning them on and off again, so it required some Googling to find this out. Incompatibility with HDMI signal switches and splitters was not mentioned. If it had been the case, I would have been operational more quickly and eventually satisfied.Once I realized this, I hooked the Roku right into the TV and it functioned flawlessly. Unfortunately, to achieve this, I had to move all of our other HDMI inputs.Before purchasing this version of Roku, find out if your switch is HDCP compatible if you depend on HDMI switches or splitters.The Roku mobile software also boasts a keyboard feature, but when I tried it on my iOS device, all of the other mobile remote control features worked as well. I'm hoping a Google search will turn up a solution, but it would make me more happier if the keyboard option worked right away.EDIT:After a month, the remote control stopped functioning. It's great that there is a Roku app for smartphones. If not, we would have to get a new remote.

So far, a fantastic product! We acquired a second one for a relative after the first week.First, be aware of what information is free and what is not before making a purchase. Second, in case it isn't clear, the Roku uses your wifi and internet connection to function. To stream videos, you need an internet connection with suitable speed. You won't be able to stream video on the Roku if you can't watch it on your computer or mobile device via wifi.You will still need to have the same subscriptions for any content that you must pay for elsewhere (such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, network TV streaming, etc.). However, the Roku gives you access to all of those subscriptions (the ones you're paying for) from a single device on your TV and has a pleasant interface that almost anyone can use, even if they're not tech-savvy. In the worst case scenario, simply click the Home button if you get lost. (However, keep in mind that each "channel" on Roku is actually an app created by the distinct content source, so some are a little trickier than others. On some network TV stations, it's not always evident which content is free versus paid until you try to play it, which I assume is done for marketing purposes. However, you will always be asked to pay before purchasing anything, and you can enter a pin number to stop unauthorized purchases.Ad-supported material: Much like watching free over-the-air (OTA) TV stations, there is a lot of ad-supported content. If you want to watch network TV (ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, etc.), visit each network's website to see which shows are available to stream for free. Typically, you can do this on Roku as well. After all, each network's applications make up the Roku "channels." The most recent three to five episodes of shows that are currently airing are included in many networks' free content, which is made available a week after the original broadcast date. This is useful if you miss one or two broadcast TV episodes. You may watch a whole season of an old show for free on some networks' "throwback" content. Additionally, there are a few websites and TV channels, like as Pluto.tv and Tubi.tv, that offer a large selection of ad-supported movies and TV series. You'll find that on Roku, so check the websites of each to see what they currently have available. The ones mentioned above offer a large amount of older and slightly older stuff in addition to some recent content.Ad-free and unburdening: The ad-free programming is typically very old; there is a lot of black-and-white TV and film, some early color film, etc. There is a lot of elegant and traditional content here for individuals who don't enjoy most of what is on TV these days. If your internet speed is enough, starting a video is incredibly quick. When I tried on a relative's 6 mbps DSL connection, there were never any bothersome buffering times. Videos either start right away on my faster connection (100 mbps) or only buffer for a few seconds at most.The remote control is excellent: straightforward, powerful signal, and good range. Because it uses infrared technology, you must be in the same room (why would you want to leave the room?). Usually, I don't even need to point the remote at the Roku box because the infrared signal is potent enough to bounce off the walls or ceiling while still functioning. Just make sure the front of your Roku box is visible and facing the room. They include a piece of sticky tape so you may attach the box to a convenient place, like the top or side of your TV or media cabinet. However, because the supplied HDMI cable is just 2 feet long, it must be placed very close to the TV. But if you want the remote to be a little further away, you might use a separate HDMI cable. If your TV supports it—I have a Samsung TV, which is supported, and a TCL TV that apparently wasn't—pressing the Home button will turn on your TV and switch to the Roku's HDMI connection. This is one thing I appreciate about the remote.To operate the Roku over wifi, you can also use the Roku app on your smartphone. You can explore for other stuff while something is already playing in addition to having an interface that resembles the real remote quite closely. Since the physical remote needs utilizing an on-screen keyboard, where you must choose each letter and click OK, it is actually much simpler to browse if you're looking for something specific. Normally, though, I'm not looking for anything special on the physical remote, so it's not a problem. The app also includes a headphone option, which I assume allows you to listen without using a TV and is ideal for using at night while everyone else is asleep. Please take note that watching Roku video straight on your phone is NOT supported by the Roku app. It merely allows you to choose the media to view on the TV.It's a wonderful experience all around. I currently only have Amazon Prime, which has a limited selection of content that I actually like to watch (sorry, Amazon! I primarily use the Roku for ad-supported TV and movies because I have Prime primarily for the shipping, and there is more than enough content to keep me occupied for a very long time.

The majority of folks will be equally content with the 32GB version.Providing High Definition Video ContentI was pleased when Apple stated that existing purchases will be updated to 4K without further charge, in addition to the fact that 4K content would be available without a price increase. However, switching the TV's display mode does result in an unpleasant couple of seconds of blank screen at the start and finish of any video playback.The improvement in catalog titles—movies I've seen numerous times—can be shocking if your TV supports HDR. I did not anticipate films like Ghostbusters (1984) to appear as modern.I know I'm in for a treat when I see the Dolby Vision tag because my TV supports it and newer iTunes movies are frequently encoded with that cutting-edge HDR standard. Modern films with such intricate encoding, like La La Land, make me doubt whether the human eye is even capable of seeing a better image. You should definitely test out your new OLED if you have one.I compared the UHD Blu-ray with HDR edition of Justice League to the 4K Dolby Vision version available on iTunes out of curiosity. I was curious to learn what the streaming-level quality was leaving out.
