Best Traditional Laptop Computers in 2022

Last update: November 26, 2022

Did people have laptops in the 90s?

In the 1990s, laptops were not as common as they are today. They were mostly used by businesses and were not as affordable for consumers. However, there were a few laptops available for consumers in the 1990s, such as the Apple PowerBook and the IBM ThinkPad.

How long should a laptop last?

A laptop should last you several years if you take care of it and don’t use it for heavy gaming or other resource-intensive activities. Some people like to upgrade their laptops every few years to keep up with the latest technology, but if you don’t need the latest and greatest, a good laptop can last you five years or more.

How many types of laptop processors are there?

How much RAM do I need on my laptop?

How much RAM do I need on my laptop? This is a difficult question to answer because it depends on how you plan to use your laptop. If you just want to use it for basic tasks like browsing the web and checking email, then you can get by with 4GB of RAM. However, if you plan to do more demanding tasks like video editing or gaming, then you will need 8GB or more of RAM.

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS Display, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 3 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 in S Mode, A515-43-R19L Review:

a laptop that is incredibly affordable for use in basic computing. For me, the "basic needed" specifications stand out as being 4GB of RAM and a 128GB M.2 SSD. Both serve today's demands in the most basic way possible. These features are currently present in cell phones ( high dollar ones though..).It seems that maintaining an attractive design is one of the goals of this laptop. Only one HDMI port, one thin RJ45 port, two 2.0 USB ports, one headphone/mic jack, and one power input plug are included. not a battery outside. When I first started using, the screen and sound quality immediately stood out to me. The display has excellent contrast and clarity. In reality, black is black. incredibly impressed The audio quality impressed me as well. Even though I don't have high expectations for laptop speakers, especially cheap ones, I was pleasantly pleased by how clean the sounds is.There are no easily accessible connections to replace out RAM or hard drives on the laptop's back panel. To remove the complete panel, you should instead remove about ten Philips screws. I already replaced the 4GB RAM stick with an 8GB one. Simple enough. There is an M.2 SSD in the notebook. The advantage of this is that you can still add a conventionally sized disk to increase your storage without having to worry about reinstalling an operating system or attempting to duplicate the supplied drive.I nearly passed out when I believed I was stuck in "S Mode." When I went to activate S-mode, Windows generously told me to buy a license for over $100! I was indignant because I believed this to be a brand-new ploy to lock customers into a Microsoft-only app store by selling computers without a complete, valid Windows license. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I discovered that there was a problem with activating my Windows license and had to click a troubleshoot button before it miraculously resolved itself and released me from S mode. Crisis averted. Here are a few things that irritate me: -I feel that the touchpad is a little loose. It moves even when you only lightly touch it, and an annoying plastic on plastic sound can be heard.-After a predetermined amount of time, the keyboard's backlight turns off; to make it come back on, you must push a key. The keys do not light up when you move the mouse or touchpad. A key must be touched. I notice a BIOS setting for turning off the timeout. I disabled it, but it doesn't seem to have any impact. Still, it switches off.-The slim-line RJ45 port appears to be broken. When I pull the flap down, it does not open all the way thus I cannot affix a connector. I doubt I'll ever use it, but why is that?

HP 2019 14" Laptop - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory - 128GB Solid State Drive - Ash Silver Keyboard Frame (14-CF0014DX) Review:

This laptop is great. I use it primarily for schoolwork because I attend full-time classes at the university, some of which are online. I required a portable, lightweight, and quick item. You are deluding yourself if you think a powerful laptop at this price point is what you want. I'm surprised I found a laptop with an SSD at such a great price. I bought this laptop with the idea that I only needed something that could handle modest work loads and was quick because I already have a powerful gaming desktop PC at home. In addition, I wanted it to be portable. I absolutely do not recommend this PC if you're looking for anything that will run High FPS games or Adobe programs smoothly. It's not a gaming PC by any means, but you should check the games themselves to see the lowest level you can run them on. I like to play My Time at Portia on this computer, and it can run League of Legends (Like you should if you are a gamer and wanting a new laptop). The SSD's storage capacity isn't the greatest, so if you don't use cloud-saved applications like Google Docs, you should consider getting an external drive or an SD card. I think you can install an HDD on this, but I'm not sure and I don't intend to. I keep my files backed up in multiple locations and have a 1TB external drive handy in case I need to transfer files between PCs.Benefits: - Quick startup; - Smooth operation for light daily usage; - Supports Youtube, Hulu, and Netflix streaming;- Has an SD card port so I can expand storage if necessary. - Plays some games that don't require powerful graphics cards or processors.- Has an Ethernet port and an HDMI port for use with inferior hotel TVs when traveling.Cons: - The stupid and unnecessary bloatware - There are currently no alternatives.Once more, my evaluation is based on this product at this pricing. I never expected a $400 laptop to be able to run a graphics-intensive game, and I certainly didn't expect this PC to do it. Since I primarily use Google Docs for school and have an external drive, the storage is adequate for my requirements, and I appreciate that it comes with an SSD. I haven't had any problems with the laptop's Wi-Fi yet, and I don't anticipate doing so. If you want a laptop that will provide speed and be a fantastic travel companion whether you are a college student or travel frequently for work, you should acquire this one.As a final suggestion, I advise downloading a fresh copy of Windows 10 to avoid the bloatware. Alternatively, you can just uninstall the bloatware through Programs and Features. You will almost certainly receive bloatware with a new laptop, but that is up to you.

2019 Lenovo 11.6" HD IPS Touchscreen 2-in-1 Chromebook, Quad-Core MediaTek MT8173C (4C, 2X A72 + 2X A53), 4GB RAM, 32GB eMMC, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, HDMI, Type-C, Chrome OS Review:

Since I believe it's improper to review a product the same day you receive it, I waited a while before doing so. After my laptop died, I needed a quick-access item that was also less expensive than a laptop, so I bought this. Clearly, a chromebook is NOT designed to be a laptop substitute. Hardcore gaming platforms like Steam are not supported by this. The typical programs you're used to, like iTunes, aren't supported, but there are workarounds if you search in the Chrome Store. I work as an online editor, and this is still capable of handling that. The touch screen functions properly. When turning the screen, I have no concerns about the Chromebook snapping or anything because it is so strong. Although it's a fantastic chromebook for the money, there are certainly some limitations compared to a laptop in terms of what it can do. Still perfectly functional is Microsoft Office. It can handle the essentials and applications like Netflix, Hulu, and others, and it won't lag when you have multiple tabs open. In my opinion, it was a better alternative than investing in a costly laptop. Although not everyone likes chromebooks, I do.

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS Display, 8th Gen Intel Core i3-8145U, 4GB DDR4, 128GB PCIe Nvme SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 in S Mode, A515-54-30BQ Review:

I had been using a 13" Lenovo Thinkpad that had recently started acting up, so I was thrilled to get this laptop. I believed it was high time for a new laptop before mine completely died. The laptop was well-packaged when it was delivered; it was housed in an Acer box with the customary fiberboard form-fitting packaging. This was packaged in a larger box for added security, as is customary for Amazon, and it effectively protected the laptop.A power supply and a kit with the necessary mounting hardware and cable are included with the laptop.Make sure the laptop is plugged in so that the setup can begin.Right away, Cortana appears and walks you through the setup procedure. You can make selections with your voice or a mouse.Windows 10's standard setup procedure went without a hitch from beginning to end. In a few minutes, I was running and storing my favorite websites! What I like: This PC includes a "Solid State Drive" (SSD), which indicates that the primary storage is electronic (similar to the chip in a mobile phone). As a result, access times are incredibly quick, which improves the boot time (approximately 20 seconds!) and speed of the laptop. In comparison to a "HDD" (Hard Disk Drive), an SSD is also more dependable and may last longer; a broken HDD frequently spells the end for most PCs. This is an excellent feature and value for a low-cost "budget" PC!An ethernet port, two "regular" USB ports, a USB C port, an HDMI port, and the power connection are all located on the left side of the computer, while the right side has a headphone jack, a lock cable connector, and another "Standard" USB port. The display is excellent; the bezel around the screen is extremely narrow (approximately 1/4" on the sides and possibly 1/2" on the top). The display is also incredibly clear and 1080P; I just viewed a test video at that resolution on YouTube, and it looks amazing! There is no lagging while streaming, though. Your performance in this location may differ because our house has very good WiFi. It's also nice to use a larger 15" display than the 13" I've been using because it's so much bigger. The appearance of this computer is equally spectacular; it has a brushed metal shell with a matching plastic finish throughout. The keys have a satisfying tactile click and are responsive, and the keyboard's size is ideal for my relatively large hands.Battery life has not been sufficiently tested, however based on how much less power an SSD consumes than an HDD, it is likely to be satisfactory. As with any PC, screen brightness, intense gaming, and other processing-intensive activities will fast deplete the battery. However, I do understand that the Intel processor is quite efficient and less power hungry than others. What Could Be Better: The 4GB of RAM that is offered is the most obvious flaw. By today's standards, this is seriously inadequate, but it can be upgraded to 16GB, and 4GB will still function just enough for basic web browsing, streaming movies, creating spreadsheets or presentations, or handling email. Keep in mind that the SSD also improves speed and performance as a whole.I require a VGA port to connect to our system for presentations at work, even though I'm aware that these connectors are becoming obsolete and are only found on older projectors and AV systems. I soon found a cheap HDMI to VGA adaptor to fix this.A larger SSD would be fantastic, but I understand that this is a "Budget PC" and that it is already outstanding that it has an SSD rather than an HDD.The video chip is average; it's fine for streaming videos, but I imagine it would have trouble with intensive video editing or intensive graphics games. This is not a problem for me.Windows 10's "S" mode is annoying because you can't install any programs that aren't on the Store. I had some problems opting out of S Mode (a Microsoft issue), but they were fixed, so I did it so I could install Microsoft Office 2010, and there haven't been any since!Overall, Acer produces excellent low-cost computers; they are frequently dependable, and this model is a wise pick thanks to the SSD. highly suggestableEDIT: After using this laptop for approximately two weeks, I'm still in awe of how fantastic it is! I've owned a lot of laptops over the years; my first was a "Gateway" with a 486 processor that ran DOS and an outdated version of Windows, among other things. Obviously, this is my favorite. When using an SSD, boot speeds are INCREDIBLY quick. It takes less than 20 seconds from hitting the power button to reaching your desktop. My goal is to keep this laptop "clean" by not installing any more apps that could slow it down. I recently loaded Microsoft Business, the "Team Viewer" tool, "Citrix Receiver" (which enables for remote access to my office PC), and the Chrome browser. The battery life has been great thus far; I simply charge it after a few uses, and it hasn't fallen below 60% yet. Initially, I was debating upgrading the RAM, but I don't think I need more than the 4mb I already have. If you are on the fence about making this purchase, I urge you to DO IT. You won't be sorry!Even though the specs look "cheap," this laptop performs better than any other one I've ever used, including Macs. Edit#2 - 6 week update - This laptop continues to astound me every day. The boot speeds are still insanely fast, and it seems like I can type faster on this keyboard than ever before.

Lenovo Chromebook C330 2-in-1 Convertible Laptop, 11.6-Inch HD (1366 x 768) IPS Display, MediaTek MT8173C Processor, 4GB LPDDR3, 64 GB eMMC, Chrome OS, 81HY0000US, Blizzard White Review:

I'll be honest, Although I don't work in IT, I often utilize desktops, laptops, and tablets for both personal and business use. My expectations were significantly exceeded by this Chromebook. I've never used a Chromebook before. I've had about a week to study the gadget in depth. I have an alienware gaming laptop that I use exclusively for gaming these days.I think this Chromebook is quick. The tablet responds swiftly to commands and gestures and has a sharp speed. Aside from playing games, I have yet to discover anything I can't accomplish on this that I can on my Windows laptop. One of my favorite games needs Windows, Mac, or Linux to run. This does not now support linux programs because it has an ARM processor.Design: This chromebook is a white, bright computer that is beautiful. Despite being constructed of plastic, I think the design is attractive and seems robust. Using it in tablet mode is not something I especially enjoy. In tablet form, the screen seems heavy and occasionally difficult to use. Whether you put the screen in tablet, laptop, or tent mode, it changes to that position promptly. Except for when I need LTE internet away from home, I personally don't use my LG tablet very often. The design is excellent overall.Screen/Input: I think the keyboard is comparable to that on most laptops. I feel like my typing has slowed down a little bit, but not much, because the keys are a little shallow. I seldom ever need to touch the screen more than once to make the appropriate gesture thanks to the IPS touchscreen's excellent responsiveness. Although the screen is bright at home, I believe it would be inadequate in environments with more lighting, like the outdoors.Almost everything can be done with this device thanks to the google play store. I've never used any demanding applications. I use a variety of programs, including Chrome, Netflix, Hulu, Evernote, multiple banking apps, and others. They're all nimble and responsive. The bank apps open in a small window since they appear to be in phone mode. Apps continue to function as intended. Playback on Netflix and Hulu is slick and enjoyable to watch.Overall, I'm impressed with this tablet and the Google OS. I advise everyone who is unsure about the operating system to give it a try. Additionally, the battery life is decent. My gaming laptop is constantly linked to a nearby outlet while I use it. I am also aware of how much more power-intensive a gaming laptop is. I haven't yet put this Chromebook to use while it's charging. Without ever experiencing a critical low, the battery has let me to watch 4-5 hours of Netflix, chat on Facebook, and send texts using my phone. I charge it at night and don't use it again till the following night. The maximum screen brightness is this. The lecturers also greatly shocked me. The speakers were clear and significantly louder. Sincerely, I had anticipated them to be of inferior netbook quality, better for storing them away and never using them. However, that is not the case with this Chromebook. In most cases, I do wear a bluetooth headset. Extreme simplicity was matched with the bluetooth headset. Additionally, I quickly configured my brother wireless laser printer with Google Cloud Print.Lenovo provided a quality product, and Google handled it correctly. Although I paid $200 for it on sale, I would have paid $300. If you enjoy listening to music, watching Netflix, or browsing the web, I highly suggest this. Choose Windows if you require software that is Windows-intensive. If not, I predict that you'll end up using this device exclusively, just as I have.

Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6" Full HD IPS Display, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8265U, 8GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Fingerprint Reader, Windows 10 Home, A515-54-51DJ Review:

I recently purchased this Acer to replace a Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 that unexpectedly failed (display stopped working) just three short years after I first purchased it. I was first hesitant to purchase an Acer since I was uncertain about its quality, worried about another review that highlighted how noisy the fan was, and wasn't sure I could manage with an SSD of only 256. Here are my first thoughts:1 Speed. Starting up this computer is a joy. In order to appreciate how quickly it powers on, I even shut it down and then restarted it. I used to be astounded at how much quicker my son's middle school-issued Chromebook powered on than my Satellite or even the HP I use at work. Ultimately, I suppose, it came down to choosing between an SSD and an HDD hard drive. If you're wondering whether it matters, I can assure you that it makes a huge difference. In a matter of seconds, this computer is operational. In my three-year-old Satellite, I used to dread doing everything. I'm done. If you are downloading large files, writing to the SSD is likewise quite quick. swiftly swiftly.2 Capacity. I have a ton of photos and films that won't all fit on this 256GB SSD, but that problem is VERY simple to fix. There are Acer videos available that show how to add an internal HDD (maximum width is 7mm) using the HDD harness and cable that arrive with this machine. I tried to use the 1TB HDD from my Satellite but was unable since I didn't realize the case's width was 9.5mm until I went to close the case again. A comparable 1TB HDD costs around $50. For roughly $60, you can also add an external HDD with a 2TB capacity. You can get a really fast PC with enough storage using either of these solutions.Present-Generation Processor No. 3 (Intel Core 5 8th generation). Check the benchmarks to see how quickly it is. It is perfect for the tasks I need my family laptop for.4 Building caliber. I adore the lighter keys on this laptop, which the Satellite did not have. It seems really sturdy.5 overall excellent value I paid around $500 for this laptop, and if you add another $50 to $60 for more storage, you're looking at a sub-$600 system with the most recent (as of July 2019) Intel Core 5, 256GB SSD, fantastic build quality, nice monitor, etc. It seems like a good deal to me.Although I haven't tested it for video games or anything similar, as a general-purpose home laptop, it works wonderfully.

Acer Flagship CB3-532 15.6" HD Premium Chromebook - Intel Dual-Core Celeron N3060 up to 2.48GH.z, 2GB RAM, 16GB SSD, Wireless AC, HDMI, USB 3.0, Webcam, Chrome OS (Renewed) Review:

Excellent Windows PC Alternative... at last! This costs about $300 when new; mine is "Refurbished" and costs $188. Furthermore, I am leaving Microsoft with their never-ending PROBLEMS and BUGGY PRODUCTS assuming it holds up, which I believe it will. One point is that Chromebooks lack DVD/CD Drives and Hard Drives (which is both a Pro and a Con), but they do have a lot of Cloud Storage (a Positive and a Negative). There aren't any drives, therefore there are fewer moving parts to wear down and less heat to dissipate. I don't think they even have fans. Well, I'm willing to invest $188 to try out this alternate route from Microsoft that I've been looking for for years. Chromebooks just have the Chrome Browser as its operating system. Google offers lifelong Free Virus Protection, a Full Office Suite Called Google Docs (No Outlook or MS Works Needed...YAY!) and Hundreds More Apps! You should give it a try.

New Lenovo 130S 11.6" HD Laptop, Intel Celeron (2 core) N4000 1.1GHz up to 2.6GHz, 4GB Memory, 64GB SSD, Webcam, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB 3.1, Windows 10, Office 365 Personal 1-Year Included Review:

Everything I needed in a lovely, lightweight laptop package. I wanted to replace an old laptop, so I rushed ahead of schedule since Windows 7 won't be supported beyond January 2020. Excellent for traveling and web browsing, with a respectable flash memory speed. If you want to use an other web browser, such as Google Chrome, Fire Fox, etc. Recognize that this is a Windows 10 - "S" S is meant to represent for "Safe" because it restricts you to utilizing just Windows programs (downloads) and only the Windows explorer web browser. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of people, that doesn't work well for me because Google Chrome is the browser on both my Android-powered phone and tablet, and they all sync and function well with one another. When solely utilizing the Windows explorer browser, everything from my bookmarks and favorites to my calendar and Google Play (music) won't work as intended.Once, you can end your use of the Windows 10 " S" operating system (no return). In Windows Explorer, I navigated to Google.com I subsequently looked up Google Chrome and downloaded it. At that point, a popup pops up advising you to leave Windows "S" mode and switch to the "normal" version of Windows 10 that permits downloading from external sources. (In my instance, Google Chrome) Now, Chrome appears to be operating without a hitch. I was able to sync my Chrome bookmarks, calendar, and other things.* I believe that the Windows "S" would be an excellent alternative for children and some older people who are less computer knowledgeable to keep them out of danger. Although it serves a function, "S" is undoubtedly not for everyone. As I utilize it more, I'll update.

2018 Acer 15.6" HD WLED Chromebook 15 with 3X Faster WiFi Laptop Computer, Intel Celeron Core N3060 up to 2.48GHz, 4GB RAM, 16GB eMMC, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB 3.0, HDMI, Chrome OS Review:

I don't know why there are negative reviews, but I wouldn't pay attention to them. Since I could see and touch the computer before buying it at Best Buy, that is where I actually made my decision. My entire life has been spent using Microsoft and HP. I had a lot of questions about chromebooks. I argued with myself for several weeks. However, I will say that if you love Android, using this Chromebook will feel natural to you. Some of the features are fantastic, and it is based on the Google Play store. The screen size was one of the biggest selling aspects (similar to how you can access your computer without entering a password if your phone is nearby and unlocked). The majority of chromebooks I found are significantly smaller than this one, which has a HUGE screen with such lovely quality. There is a night light/blue light filter available in the display settings, which I adore! Excellent PC all around, with outstanding battery life. Speed is blazingly quick; I had lower expectations. I can't say anything negative about this laptop. I'm not sure why you're waiting if you haven't already purchased it.

2019 Newest Lenovo IdeaPad 15.6" HD High Performance Laptop PC |7th Gen AMD A9-9425 Dual-Core 3.10 GHz| 4GB RAM | 128GB SSD | 802.11ac | Bluetooth | DVD+/-RW | HDMI | Win 10 Review:

The SSD really makes a HUGE difference in performance; it boots up in a matter of seconds, and everything feels snappy even though the CPU is somewhat weak and it only has 4GB of RAM. This laptop is not the most powerful thing you'll use, but for $250, it's excellent for Office applications and basic internet browsing like checking your email and watching 720p/1080p videos (1080p video stutters a little bit on some websites). For a budget laptop, the battery life is adequate (I got about 3 hours of use under heavy use on a full charge), and the charger is small enough to put in your pocket. However, the 0.3 megapixel webcam is total garbage, so do not get this device if you intend to use it for video chatting.EDIT: I neglected to explain that Windows 10 Home comes with S-Mode, but you can easily and for no cost turn it off by going to "Settings" -> "Update
