The answer is yes. If you exert too much effort, or in the case of this stand, at the base where the clamp is, anything will break. I adore this position.I have two of the plastic stands that collapse and allow you to set up a tablet at an angle, but they flush-mount the tablet's lower edge to the table. The lower edge of the table is raised a few inches by this durable and dependable support, giving you a more comfortable viewing angle. In addition, you can attach a charging cable to an iPad that is held in a "portrait" posture from the bottom because the tablet is elevated and the stand has a gap between its two support fingers. I always have to invert the iPad to place the charging port on top, which also places the home button there. Additionally, the charging wire looks a little odd coming off the top when using those folding plastic supports, which leave no area to connect from the bottom. Although I frequently use the iPad in "landscape" mode on its side, I prefer to read texts with numerous pages of text in portrait mode. It is useful for reading ebooks as well.This stand and my Bluetooth keyboard together give the impression of a typical adjustable-angle computer display and keyboard arrangement. In my opinion, it is a much more appealing combination than the keyboard-case designs or the folding plastic supports.The main drawback, in my opinion, is that it does not collapse into a more compact shape like plastic stands do.
