I'm not sure why others have had problems with these; it looks like they function just as well as OEM if you simply rinse them before using them (like the OEM one that came with the drinkwell). I've had no problems utilizing these; the filtered water is clear. They are also just as durable as the original OEM ones. Overall, these were excellent to get me started with my drinkwell, in my opinion. These are made of plastic, though. A stainless steel container that I could clean and restock with activated charcoal is what I'd prefer. Perhaps I'll create my own, but until I have the opportunity to do so, these will do just fine!

This fountain is amazing! In the past, we've had two made of plastic. One had a leak, while the other seemed hard to keep clean. I gave up eventually and. However, I observed my cats weren't urinating very much, down to just a bowl of water. I chose this one after doing some research on Amazon. It has the appearance of a decorative fountain you might buy for interior design. It is highly durable, functions flawlessly, and is quite simple to clean. I can't stress how highly I suggest this item! I used to own a Drinkwell Platinum pet fountain. While it worked fine, it was very challenging to clean and had numerous plastic crevices that served as a haven for disgusting, gooey bacteria colonies. The previous Platinum fountain had to be cleaned even more frequently than was advised, and it took two hours to scrub out all of the nasty crevices.However, this fountain is incredibly simple to divide into two dishwasher-safe, highly open (and crevice-free) plastic compartments. This makes cleaning absurdly simple. It is also superior to the Platinum version since replenishing it is much easier. You simply pour water into the fountain without having to remove the water reservoir, which would otherwise cause water to splatter everywhere. Additionally, compared to the Platinum version, it is quite inexpensive. This item is far superior to PetSafe Drinkwell's Platinum version, which is more expensive, more difficult to clean, and less hygienic. I regret not purchasing this fountain sooner!

This fountain was purchased by us in November 2011. Nearly two years later, we are still having no issues, unlike other reviews. Cleaning both the fountain and the pump, in my opinion, is essential to this project's success. We deconstruct the entire fountain once a week. Warm water and a light liquid dish soap are used to clean every component. Here, the complete disassembly is crucial.Please take note that I've displayed the fountain disassembled in the images section. You'll see that the front of the pump was missing one component. We can now clear the dirt that accumulates inside the fountain thanks to this. This is really simple. Of course, before cleaning, the pump needs to be unplugged. Once the front has been removed, put the pump in a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap. We connect the pump while submerged. In order to clean the internal spinning mechanism, this circulates water and detergent. View the floating debris in the water in a different picture. That is the muck that accumulates. Therefore, if your pump is failing, this might be the cause.If your pump's spinning mechanism won't spin because of its poor condition, just soak it in water and detergent for a few hours, then give it a good flush with fresh water before trying again.Important: Do not force the front cover to close completely when you replace it on the pump. You MUST align the flow control valve. Turn your flow control a little and give it another shot. Once it starts to snap EASILY back together, keep making little turns and trying again.This weekly cleaning takes us very little time to do on a regular basis and is well worth the effort. Our fountain hasn't needed any maintenance than this cleaning. Depending on requirement, we replace the filter once or twice a month. After cleaning, we both fill the reservoir and the base with water. There is plenty of water left to last long past that week. Two cats often use this fountain, so you could add more water if you had more dogs or cats.I really hope you enjoy your pet fountain after reading this review!

Depending on how many pets are drinking from it and how messy they are, the large amount of water it carries remains clean and fresh for about a week.Cleaning is simple, but you must be cautious with your cleaning supplies. Avoid using anything that can scrape the plastic since it will trap bacteria and make cleaning more difficult. I employ a microfiber-covered sponge. Regular sponges readily tear on the jagged edges. Cut a sponge into thirds and use them just to clean the little spaces where the larger sponge won't fit in order to clean the center where it is difficult to reach. Using hemostats to hold the tiny sponge is quite helpful.UPDATE **I've had a couple ideas that could help your pump last longer** UPDATERegularly replace or clean your filter. The pump may sustain harm if the pump input becomes obstructed.Take the pump apart to clean it by carefully removing the grill, the impeller cap, and the impeller itself. To clean the hole where the impeller emerges, use a cotton swab. Reassemble the pump after cleaning each component. I clean the nooks and crannies with an old toothbrush.Keep the bowl from getting empty. This will cause the pump to overheat.When topping it off with water, unplug the pump and remove the funnel top to reveal the filter. If necessary, clean or replace the filter. Instead of filling the aperture above the pump, fill the sidewalls over the filter with water. Reconnect the plug after replacing the top.And just in case I do forget. Avoid value packs and bundles; you can get them cheaper if you buy them separately.
