They have some nasty grooves in them (about 1/16 inch), as I tried them out on my wood slabs of spruce that I cut in a chainsaw mill yesterday (30" by 3" by 85"). I used my WEN belt sander, and after about 15 minutes, I had very much smoothed out one slab on both sides. However, the sanding belt still appears to have a lot of grit on it, suggesting that I may not have really used it. Therefore, that entails sanding 40 square feet of rough-cut lumber to pretty smooth surfaces on both sides.

I purchased a few of nearly every type of knife sharpening belt available on Amazon in order to compare them. I'm sick of spending money on inferior belts. Red Label Abrasives sent me a shipment of belts, and as soon as I opened it, I knew they were high-quality belts! All of them, even the 1000 grit, had a solid weight to them and a sturdy backing. Speaking of grit, these feel quite well coated and appear to hold up, even after numerous sharpening sessions. Unfortunately, I received my order with a few items missing. I informed Amazon, and given that it was the week before Thanksgiving, it appears that Amazon immediately told the vendor because the seller responded to ME sooner I had anticipated. I was so shocked when he got to me so quickly - or at all! I am so used to getting screwed over for missing or useless online items that I was just astounded. The "Service after the Sale" is the key factor that determines if a firm is a good, reputable business or not. This business promised to replace my complete order, including certain grits that I did not even order, and also promised that I will soon receive the missing goods! Just having a vendor respond to me at all felt like a Christmas present early! But to see one go so far above what they had to stunned me almost completely. They are being so understanding of the issue that I actually feel fortunate to have encountered it in order to discover what wonderful individuals they are to work with. I was relieved to learn that because, given how much I loved the belts, I would have been horrified to learn that, in the long run, buyers should exercise caution.The thing is, I genuinely believe that if you aren't purchasing ANY of the belts this vendor has to offer, you are either paying too much for the quality or receiving inferior goods. These belts nearly self-center on both my Able-to-tech and Harbor Freight sharpening systems! (Which essentially uses the same belt sharpener but has enhancements for sharpening built in.)I worked as a retired CPA for 40 years and interacted with countless firms. In addition to recommending these belts to my friends, I would mock anyone else who received them as being silly! When the business you are working with goes above and beyond to ensure your satisfaction, you cannot possibly be making a negative purchasing decision. There is no need to search further if you need to acquire fresh belts for your belt sharpener.

Before commenting on this belt sander, I intended to wait a few months. Like most people, I was hesitant to purchase a tool from an unfamiliar company. However, I can't say enough positive things about this belt sander. The sand paper that came with the sander is excellent for smoothing up the edges. I recently purchased a home, and the back patio needed to be renovated. The top rails, posts, and floorboards may all be sanded down with this sander's strong force. in order to prepare it for a fresh coat of sealer. Also a great advantage are the clamps for putting the sander to my workbench. For stationary sanding, I used to clamp my polisher/sander to my workbench. for little pieces of work. With this sander, it is now considerably simpler. Anyone who can use a belt sander around the house should get this sander, in my opinion.

I built steps and porches out of treated lumber. The Skil belt sander performed as anticipated. I did appreciate the capability of using the sander as a fixed sander by flipping it on its side.
