These laminating pouches, which are 3 mil thick, are AMAZING. Even if they can only hold objects that are the size of a page of legal paper, they are STILL AMAZING.They are thick and beautiful. Even a piece of paper that has been laminated is floppy because the laminate that is available on many commercial laminating machines (such as those at schools or office supply stores) is thin. However, these pouches are 3 mil thick, which when laminated results in a considerably more substantial item. They can therefore withstand misuse! I laminated the papers I needed to keep them readable even after being submerged in water and sweat while hiking. My back-to-back documents that were laminated in these pouches were able to endure such abuse since the pouches are thick enough.They are compatible with dry-erase markers. I laminated bingo cards so that children could use dry-erase markers on them and then use, erase, use, use, erase, and so on. They still seem brand-new!They may be used with paper that is as thick as poster board. Business cards, thick flyers, brochures, and other items that are thicker than typical printer paper have all been laminated by me. I encountered no problems at all!They are simple to use! Therefore, this most recent purchase was my second, and this time I chose the larger pack.These appear a little bit opaque at first glance but emerge from the laminator sparkling clear. Water won't saturate the paper within. This is essential for homeschoolers and in particular for mothers of young children. Several items of mine have been laminated. I laminated "power disks" for Wild Kratts for my kids two years ago, and they are still there and being used. They made it through nine flights as checked luggage after I created personalized labels and tied them to suitcases with yarn.I'm producing sight word packs right now. The Scotch Thermal laminating pouches do a good job of encasing images and papers to preserve and protect them when used with the Scotch (3M business) thermal laminator. The 5 mil thick pouches produce an encapsulation that is stiffer than the typical 3 mil thick pouches. The 3 mil pouches, however, work well for most applications. I noticed that while the package for the thinner 3 mil product does not list the thickness, the package for the thicker 5 mil product does. The fact that the finished product always has a small amount of curvature or wavy appearance is one drawback of these laminating pouches. These laminations might not be flat enough for a scrapbook or picture album if several pages are placed next to one another. For applications where flatness is necessary, I utilize the non-thermal laminating sheets, which have a room temperature adhesive inside.If you're planning to secure the sheet with thumbtacks or magnets, the thermal laminating pouches are fine, or a slight curl is acceptable.

In order to have some instructions laminated, I went to a nearby office supply store. After laminating it, I became aware of how many other items needed protection as well.I had assumed that an office supply store's quality would be superior to that of a personal machine, but the clerk revealed that when their machine broke once, they simply pulled one off the shelf and used it in its place. A single sheet was laminated at the store for $3.We went ahead and purchased a laminator. The sheets that came with it were thin, flimsy, and so reflective that you could hardly read anything on them.I got these after learning that the office supply store used 5 mm sheets, and they are just as wonderful! Compared to having it done at the store, it is far less expensive. It appears to be much higher quality than the others we tried because the sheets are thick and the corners are rounded.

I was hesitant to write about these because, before I experienced them (and yes, I am aware that they are no-name or budget products), I believed that ALL brands had flaws. However, when I work with them, I assess these based on the "static electricity" between the sheets. My name brand, which rhymes with BOTCH, is 3mil, but I've also bought OTHER brands that were the same thickness, so I had to use dryer softener sheets to keep the static at bay when separating them. I opened this package of Nuova Premium Thermals just to see or maintain my "on hand" consumptions equal (I keep approximately 1K of sheets on hand), so I checked them out. At first, I thought these were the best because they produced very little static while being used, or at least minimal static. I've seen that some people have complained about the thickness, and I advise them to read the packaging and possibly check their laminator's heater because too much heat might cause ripples and humps. So I "side for side" measure my lam sheets. Here's the scientific stuff: these are 3 mil laminate sheets (6 mil 0.0055" laminated) before being heat sealed (each side = 0.00250.003" - that's 0.0060" combined). 1 mil is equal to 0.001, 2 mil is equal to 0.002, 3 mil is equal to 0.003, etc. One mil is equal to one x 103 inches. 1 mil is 2.54 x 10-5 meters in SI units. I must therefore remark that I'm giving these a rating. No static, lovely clarity, excellent seal, and not overly stiff like 5 Mils As I mentioned, I utilize a large volume 12 " wide sealer that can operate at "higher rates." As a result, I DO WATCH MY HEAT LEVEL of the 3 mil sheets and I ALWAYS LET THEM COOL JUST FOR A LONG SECOND ON THE EXIT TABLE. It's absolutely no problem for my grandson to draw on these kind of sheets with crayons and markers, though depending on the "build up" it might cause it to smudge for a moment. Overall, I consider this brand to be my "best of the best," once more.

They are fairly thin, but since I work with young children who frequently sneeze on, lick, grab, etc. my materials, the laminating merely serves to protect them and make it possible for me to clean them after usage.To prevent the lamination from opening, you DO need to cut items out before laminating them (and then cut them out again).A handful of my laminating tools had bowed when I was laminating little items, and they stayed bent. The final result is more prone to peeling around the edges, less firm, and slightly hazy rather than crystal clear.SUGGESTIONS FOR USE: -Allocate at least a 1/8 "margin all around the paper. Even better, leave 1/4 ".
