The shock pad is really effective. Because my tiny dogs are always leaping on the couch, I lay my hand on it to lessen the shock. All of my dogs avoid the couch within a day. If you start off with both static and sound and then switch to sound exclusively after a while, they will eventually learn to identify sound with shock and no mat will be required. I really enjoy the power pack's tone feature and LED indicators. I heartily endorse this item. It is sturdy and not flimsy. If you were applying it on furniture or other items, I'm sure it would work fine.

We tried using items like chairs and lids to try to keep the pets off the furniture, but it didn't work effectively. I came upon these workout mats and decided to give it a shot. Our pets are being kept off the couch well. A slight charge exists on the mat, making it uncomfortable to stand on. I'm hoping that eventually they'll realise how uncomfortable the couch is and decide to avoid it. We have had fantastic success with it thus far, and it is far better than stacking items.

I first bought three of these approximately five years ago when I was temporarily caring for my stepdaughter's husky and didn't want her to sleep on my couches like she did at home. When she returned home, they were all neatly put away after doing an excellent job of keeping her off the couch. In fact, I now had three sets of sofas in three different rooms to try and keep clean from my two long-haired cats. Fast forward four years and the transfer to a new, larger house with new furniture. Well, two days after our move, one of our cats urinated on the brand-new couch in the basement. The six couches in the home were immediately covered with waterproof plastic mattress coverings, and I spent three days cleaning the peed-on couch with a vacuum extractor while letting it dry and air out in the sun. The issue appeared to be resolved after we acquired Feliway spray and diffusers, so we gradually removed the couches from the main level. Then we ran into issue number two: I had picked a deep burgundy velour sofa set for the living room, which was rapidly adopted as the cats' favorite place to lounge in the sun. It was also quite difficult to clean. My three old Sofa Scrams were brought out, and they immediately resolved the issue. The basement sofa set was still covered in plastic mattress covers because once a cat pees on something, they become inexorably drawn to it. My shy cat Poppy was hiding out under the covers of the loveseat to avoid being seen, and my problem-child cat Nutmeg continued to occasionally pee on the sofa. The sofas were protected by plastic covered by old quilts (so that urine wouldn't run off and leak onto the carpet), but the quilts required frequent laundering, and my basement reeked the entire time. I used cat repellent, foil, cat food dishes on the sofa, Feliway, and nothing worked to deter her. Additionally, Poppy was hiding in the loveseat and hairs were all over it. The ONLY thing that will keep the cats off the sofas, I finally caved in and spent the money on 2 additional Sofa Scrams. They are also MUCH easier to swiftly remove than plastic covers

We used this product in a slightly different way than the majority of the other reviewers, but we still got a great outcome.Since moving into our new home around six months ago, the aggressive and highly possessive Burmese cat next door has been causing us problems. He would repeatedly come up to our front and patio screen doors, taunting our cats. The Burmese kept throwing himself at the door while our cats were inside and defenseless, yelling and spitting until one of us stopped him with a spray from the hose. When we first got our new puppy, this mat helped us keep her contained. She is clever since she figured out how to climb the fence by crawling up the wall. (I should have let you see her!) We needed to figure something out, so we googled the issue, saw this mat, and then discovered it on Amazon. I wasn't sure if it would function as we required, but it did! After putting in the batteries and reading the instructions, I started using it. I tied it together with clothespins and stretched it over the top of the gate next to the wall, where she crawls up and over. It has three levels of shock, and I started with the middle when I switched it on to shock and generate noise. To be fair, I touched it, and it reminded me of the way my siblings and I used to rub balloons on our heads to create static in our hair, then touch each other to experience a shock. For a split second, it hardly hurt, but I figured it would prevent my puppy from escaping her territory. It did! After just two attempts, she never even attempted to flee again. It's only a correction after she done something incorrect; it's not cruel. I enjoy it and advise anyone who wants to keep their pets out of a specific area to use it.

Prior to actually purchasing it, I was unaware of how badly I needed this. It includes two training mats, a shock level control mechanism, and very detailed instructions. The lowest level is more of a pulse than a shock, letting you know that your mats are functioning. Although the medium level is still extremely faint, you can still feel it, and my cats detested it! Despite being a slight shock, the high level is not painful. My cats like to door dash, therefore I keep the mats near the front entrance (major problem for cats). Every time I move to open the door as they approach, zap! They won't be able to get there on foot because of it. They eventually decided to cease hanging out near the entrance.Additionally, one of my cats enjoys reaching under my closed door to scratch the carpet. I use it to slide it under the door for the night so my carpet won't have to be scratched. This device could literally save your life. I have no doubts about its capability to keep pets off of couches or counters as well! I would certainly advise getting extra mats if you have a large dog or multiple trouble areas!

I own both this mat and one that bears a name brand. The only major difference I can discern is that this product's plastic mat material is slightly thinner, but this shouldn't be a problem as your pets won't be walking on it for very long. Effective at preventing my irrational kitties from scratching my recently refinished furniture. Much more effective than spray cans and double-sided tape! uses a single 9V battery.
