I love the fountain that these filters go with so much! It's perfect. Not only can my 4-year-old (only one more year that he will keep growing - thank goodness) 2.5ft long (not including his tail), 25-27lb Maine Coon NOT knock it over (finally! We could not find ANYTHING to put water in that he couldn't knock over, this breed is notorious for loving to play in water. He plays with the fountain but all he seems to be able to do is once and a while get a little bit on the mat for it or a tiny puddle on the floor - it's been a total godsend!). Plus, I love knowing that my baby is drinking water that is filtered and is healthier and safer for him! Save Money and Keep Our Planet Green. Here's how to do it. Each of these little v-shaped filter cartridges is actually two plastic halves that snap together. Simply use a sharp kitchen knife to wedge between the two halves and work around the outside until the two halves come apart. Inside you will find two thin outer felt filters with a bunch of black rocks (activated charcoal) sandwiched in between. Keep the two felt filters but throw away the activated charcoal. Place the two felt filters and the two outer plastic halves in a bowl and soak in water with a splash of bleach added. Allow to soak for two hours. This kills all bacteria and mold that may have accumulated and helps clean the filter. Completely and throroughly rinse with water until no bleach smell. Allow to dry. Next go to Amazon, Wally World or your favorite pet supply store. In the fish and aquarium supply department you will find bulk activated charcoal for sale. You will recognize the black rocks and its cheap in loose bulk form. Next, just reassemble the filters with the felt on each side and pour the charcoal in one side, high enough to keep the felt pressed against the walls of the filter. Your done! My cat likes to drink out of the toilet. I bought her a 60 dollar stainless steel teardrop fountain which she never used- not to mention how loud it is.  This is the second drinking fountain we got from Wonder Creature. Not that the first one (lotus fountain) is not good, it’s simply that we worry about not having enough water and burning the motor whenever we’re travelling for too long. I’d like to mention a few things that made us feel this stainless steel fountain is the best drinking fountain for our cats.

First, it’s super clean ALL the time. For those other fountains with the open reservoir, we noticed that cat hair or small bugs tend to get trapped around the edge around the water line. This means we typically have to empty the fountain and clean the base on a daily basis. The stainless steel top of this fountain though saved us from the hassle, and stayed clean for at least a week (there’s only minor water stains on the edge after a week of use).

Second, much like the other fountains from wonder creature, this one is super quiet. I only tend to hear water flowing sound (and it’s by no means an unpleasant sound) when there’s no other activities around, and when I happen to sit within 1 meter next to the fountain.

Third, our cats really appreciated the blue light from the lotus fountain. But it’s only in the stainless steel fountain that the lighting actually serves a meaningful purpose! The light changes colour when there’s not enough water in the reservoir, and at the same time the motor stops working to prevent burning out. This new safety function is really reassuring when we leave our cats alone at home when we go on trips!

Bonus, the package also comes with a cute silicone mat to keep the floor dry, brushes for cleaning, as well as additional filters!

Don’t hesitate about getting this fountain if you’re trying to keep your cats happy and healthy!

I have a cat who cries constantly at the sink so I decided to get this for him. My other cat doesn't drink much at all and I was hoping this would encourage her to consume more water. It took all of 5 minutes to set up (including time to wash it) and my thirsty cat was investigating before I even got it plugged in. Within seconds my daughter and I amused ourselves by watching him explore it from all sides and drink for a half hour! We have had it for 5 days and he has not cried at the sink once! I have only filled it a couple times by pouring some water into the top. We have a water cooler, so I am hoping that will cut down on the need for filters and it is really quiet. I mean really quiet! I was careful when I purchased this because my crier likes to stick his head under and have the water run into his mouth from the faucet and I wanted to get something that would accommodate his weirdness. He can still do that with this fountain. My other cat is also noticeably drinking more which I know is good for preventing the dreaded UTI's that cats are prone to. I was worried about them playing in it and making a huge mess or that my dog would have an issue with it but so far, none of that has happened. I think I even caught the dog having a few sips last night. Me and my cats are thrilled with this fountain and I hope it will continue to work for a long time.

My cats love this fountain- adjustable speed (which corresponds with how much sound it makes as the water spills onto the dish below), easy to clean, and my cats drink a lot more water from this unit than they ever did with the bubbler I had previously. The nightlight is pretty cool too (though I'm pretty sure it's more for us than for the cats). Other reviews mentioned that theirs didn't work when they first got it-- I didn't think mine did either, BUT you have to make sure that you assemble the item correctly (which, I admit, is a bit challenging) in order to make all the connections match up in order for the pump at the base of the unit to push the water up to the spout. I put it together quickly, filled the water tank and plugged it in and... nothing. The pump was working, but the water couldn't get up to the tank to spill out of the spillway... This was because I hadn't attached the tower to the base properly, though. Make sure that the pump outlet lines up perfectly with the inflow into the tank/tower. Only then will the water make it up to the top of the tower to spill out. Just b/c it "clicks" into place, doesn't mean the pump is aligned properly with the tank. So, just work with it for a few mins and you'll be glad you did. Great item!

Almost perfect. The flower is too low for our cat. He'd gotten addicted to putting his head under the faucet and letting the water run down his face and then drink it. Weird but it worked for him. Initially it was funny and cute, but he got really insistent about it and it became obnoxious. So we had to figure out a solution. This looked like a good one and so we tried it. SO GLAD we did. He immediately knew it it was for him, but he couldn't get his face under the flower. So I fixed it. At the hardware store, I found a plastic pipe extender that tapers on both ends and is the same exterior diameter to that of the flower stem where it inserts into the unit (the hole also tapers). I supergluded this to the base of the stem and now the flower is high enough for him to use it the way that makes sense to his weird little brain. :)

UPDATE: 7/24/2017 - it's been running more or less nonstop now for seven months. We got a kitten a few months ago and he likewise figured it almost instantly and it became his preferred drinking fountain too.

I've seen negative reviews that said the pump stops working. So far it hasn't here. Knock on wood.

I don't do much to it beyond common sense maintenance. When the water supply is low, I can tell because I can increasingly hear the water return as it falls from the green bowl back in to the base. (not unpleasant, but noticeable).

When I hear that - every 3-4 days - I unplug the USB connector from the wall charger, take the green bowl off and rinse the bucket well before refilling it.

Less frequently, I rinse the green bowls filter with hot water. (it rarely seems to need it)

I never let the water supply drop so low as to have the pump run dry.

I saw a negative review that talked about the wall plug getting hot.

I haven't noticed that myself, but it uses a standard USB wall charger so presumably I'll be able to swap that out for another (who doesn't have three of them a drawer right? lol) if that should start happening :)
