This plastic welder is very reasonably priced and may be used to fix broken bumpers or other plastic items.There were complaints about the tip bending in other welder listings that I looked at, but there was no need to press it so firmly.Just be patient and wait for the plastic to melt and spread on the welder.Anyone who is a do-it-yourself handyman at home, or a DIY woman, should definitely try this.Unless you work in an auto body shop and need to use a simple plastic welder every day, why pay three to four times more for it?It took a few minutes (5 minutes?) to heat up at first. When the plastic wasn't melting as quickly, I occasionally paused for a minute to let it heat up again. If you want the wait time to be reduced by a few minutes, I suppose you will need to get a $100 plastic welder with a higher wattage.Overall, I'm really pleased with this welder and how well it is serving my needs. This helps me save a ton of money!

This Hobart Handler 190 welder was a Saturday purchase, and I got it on a Tuesday (here in Hawaii). To begin welding right out of the box, this welder really comes with everything you need (or nearly everything; you'll need at the very least a welding helmet) (ok, ok some assembly is needed). A 240V, 50Amp NEMA 6-50 male plug is included with the welder; however, neither the description nor the photos show it or mention it. The welder includes two.030 contact tips, a gauge for your argon or argon co2 mix tanks, a small sample spool of.030 flux core wire, and a metal thickness gauge. Now, if you're a newbie ordering this welder, order/buy extra tips at the same time because you only get two tips included with the welder and you might need them. Setting up the speed and voltage for the size wire and metal you'll be welding is simple with Hobart equipment. Overall, I like this welder and am certain that it will weld 5/16" steel as claimed because it has enough power to join pieces of 1/4" steel. If you are considering purchasing a 120 volt mig (I've had one), I would strongly advise someone just starting out to get the Hobart Handler 190 since you cannot go wrong. In the future, if you require a welder with increased power and a longer duty cycle, you won't need to upgrade. The ground clamp on this welder is the one thing that I would replace, and I think I'd go with a magnetic one.

This little welder was bought to finish a project for a client of my fabrication firm. We built them a steel table, but it had plastic funnels that needed to be changed for their use. There are epoxies and adhesives for plastic, but welding is still the greatest solution for combining materials, just like with steel. Which do you trust more, bandages or stitches? I'm planning to have stitches for a serious cut. I will always choose a weld over glue when joining two pieces of weldable material.This welder's design is superior to other similar designs by a wide margin (like Harbor Freight). To ensure a strong joint when working with plastic, you must force the two components together and weave them together. It's a significant push, too. not relying solely on the welder tip's weight. The HF welder resembles a soldering iron essentially but for the addition of a tiny brass or steel welding foot. Pushing that into the plastic will cause it to slowly begin to stretch, bend, and deform permanently. You will eventually shatter something as you bend it back to straighten it out. Then it falls into a circular file cabinet, and you must start over with a different welder. but not this one.My project involved 10 feet of weld joints made entirely of 1/4"-thick LDPE. For maximum results, it is preferable to weld both sides of every plastic weld joint (top and bottom). That means I had 20 feet of 1/4" thick LDPE to weld. Not a quick or simple task to finish. I used this welder for almost 5 hours during the entire process. On thinner material, the procedure wouldn't have taken nearly as long. I eventually started preheating the weld joints with a Wagner heat gun. That significantly accelerated the process while also producing superior outcomes.Several plastic welding rod options are available on Amazon, including the LDPE rods that I bought and utilized. The feed opening on this welder is a perfect fit for the 3/16" diameter rods.Here is how I used this welder because I am right-handed. My right hand controls the welding rod, and my left hand is holding the welder. I would pull the welder to the left and begin feeding the welding rod from the farthest position. My finest results came from applying light pressure to the welder tip at the joint, drawing the welder through the joint while pushing the welding rod through. By continuing to feed the welding rod, the joint will be properly heated without being under or overheated. The feed port on the welder head is positioned in such a way that as you feed welding rod in by pushing on it, the welder will naturally desire to pull itself back. I'm referring to pushing and pulling weld directions as if we were discussing stick or MIG welding. I had fantastic results by utilizing welding rods to put down 4-6" long beads, followed by weaving over the beads from side to side in a push direction to the joint. I feed the welding rod in while pulling the welder, then I stop feeding it and weave back across the welded region, weaving it side to side across the joint while moving in the push (contrary) direction. With this method, distortion wasn't an issue for me.Maintaining a clean tip is another thing that would be beneficial. There will always be some leftover plastic in and on the welder's tip in between welds. Even if you quickly unplug the welder, those little remains will char while they are lying there idle. Your subsequent weld will have those little burned fragments stuck in it, giving it a horrible appearance. I'm not sure how much it compromises the weld's integrity, but I don't believe it does any good. After I finish welding, I leave the welder plugged in for 15 minutes while I wait for it to reach its highest temperature. It won't produce much smoke or anything, but as the residual plastic burns up, there will be a small amount of smoke. After those 15 minutes, I scrape out any plastic that is still in the feed port with a 3/16" wooden dowel and spread it out on some cardboard waste. To clean it out like a pipe cleaner while it's still hot, insert a 22 caliber bronze or brass pistol cleaning brush into that port. After that, I clean the welding tip's outside surfaces with a small bronze bristle brush (also available on Amazon; search for "gun cleaning brushes" to find these toothbrush-like things). The hot bronze welding tip won't be scratched or harmed in any other way by the bronze bristles. After I've finished tidying up, I'll unplug the welder and let it slowly cool down for ten minutes or so, until it is no longer too hot to handle. I'll store it after that.I sought for a similar welder with a pistol grip shape rather than a screwdriver shape, but I was unable to locate one. While you are welding, you must provide some gentle, continuous downward pressure on the weld joint. It is not very ergonomic to do it for an extended amount of time using the screwdriver/straight configuration. For larger welding operations, a pistol grip or at least a somewhat angled grip would significantly improve ergonomics. You may fit into fewer spaces with this straight-design welder than you would with a pistol grip or an angled handle. An angle on the grip, however, would be a significant asset where room is not at a premium around your weld joint. Although this straight grip welder will work, I will keep looking for an angled one.

I never really had great expectations for it; I just needed a little hobby welder to fix a silver ring so I bought it. Not only does it accomplish the task, but I can also forge steel using this tiny device. Compared to the large Lincoln Electric MIG, TIG, and plasma cutters I've used, this tiny TIG performs amazingly well. However, because I was curious, I plugged it in at 120V to see what it would do. It can apparently perform some spot welding at 120V. For serious welding, 220V is required. Definitely worth the cost!Update: The attached video shows an aluminum strip being sliced through at maximum power (220 volts set at 200 amps). It can weld, this tiny thing (and haphazardly cut through aluminum. lol).

It was a good value for the money, therefore I gave it five stars. Even so, it worked perfectly. This is still a light duty torch set and not something you'd want for work. Although I had a better, larger professional set, I required a small, shorter handled set to apply a small pinpoint of heat to a task I was working on in my motorhome. This was really cost-effective and has the ideal tip for my needs. I'm sure I'll use it again because it works well for a light-duty non-professional torch. If you're young and just starting out in a trade that calls for one, this would also be a good starter torch to buy.

This item is fantastic. The longer you utilize a product, the greater the outcomes will be, as is the case with practically any product you have never used before. It has largely been utilized by me to successfully fuse ABS cracks. Although you can detect if you're too hot or cool after using the temperature scale a few times, I used it as a rough guide. If the size of the item is important to how you want to use it, it is considerably larger than it seems in the photographs. Run the fan until it has totally cooled, as several have suggested, to prolong the life of the element.
