Very well done. In accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, I cleaned all the surfaces the seal would touch before installing it dry. In the majority of the youtube videos I viewed, people were seen lubricating the seal before installing it in the shaft. Without any lubricant, I had no trouble installing the seal, and so far no leaks have been found!

During a transmission overhaul, I changed this seal. The seal is functioning flawlessly, and the truck is up and running. For those who have never used them before, the installation process can be a little perplexing. The seal's lip is distinct from a conventional rubber seal's lip, and it is also narrower than the original seal. Make sure the dust seal's tiny, thin lip is facing the transmission rather than the engine. The entire seal is also made of rubber, or almost what appears to be graphite material, rather than steel, so you must take care not to deform it during pressing in. Despite this, because it is made entirely of rubber, it presses in more easily than the conventional steel seals. Just be sure to press it all the way into the housing and to keep it from warping, use the install tool to press it into the housing and to install the housing/seal into the engine. There is one more crucial point to make, which is difficult to comprehend because it contradicts standard seal installation procedures: Do not, I repeat, do not use oil on this seal or its mating surface. This seal is made of a tougher rubbery material, perhaps infused with graphite, as I mentioned. I've heard that if you apply oil, they will undoubtedly leak. I have installed a lot of these—I believe they are made of PTFE—mostly on Cummins diesel engines and they have never leaked or used any oil. You should make cautious not to leave any lint on them after wiping off the grease that they are shipped with for vacuum testing purposes. Look into it. PTFE.

Although the seal didn't seem to sit completely in the channel on the enlarged wings, they did work and haven't leaked yet. The final test is that it hasn't leaked yet even though I haven't driven too far on it yet. My previous mechanic had previously installed two seals for me, but after they both failed, I merely replaced them myself because the back main was being improperly cleaned and was leaking. Use sealant in the joints and corners as a key reminder. When cleaning the bearing cap and block channel, use great care. They must be well cleaned.The top seal was inserted into the block using a syringe filled with dish soap. Use a horn as a guide and simply push it inside the hole until it emerges from the other side. always effective Use caution when handling the seal and a horn to prevent cutting it. Since my neighborhood store didn't have any seals, I kept two on hand just in case. That would be a cheap insurance policy for the time it would take to replace this. In order to help the seal stick together, I cleaned both mating surfaces, put a drop of sealant to each side, and torqued the seal to specification.Take your time because individuals often cut corners on lengthy jobs and it hurts to replace this several times because it wasn't done correctly. When it comes to steps to do a basic work, what you are doing is comparable to replacing seals on a D30. Avoid making yourself do it twice.

Make a tiny piece of.5 "plywood with a crank bolt hole drilled in it. Slide the plywood, pvc, and seal into the housing and secure with the crank bolt.

There are hardly any instructions or diagrams available to ensure that such a crucial installation is done correctly the first time. My car is a 2000 F150 with a 5.4 2V L engine. The images essentially speak for themselves.1.) PTFEMake careful to use alcohol to clean the crank. PTFE has a springless, tight lip seal. There can be no grease or oil during the dry setup. I'm going to use some RTV on the outside, but I also read that some grease is acceptable to make installation easier. ONLY on the outside, NOT inside. It is said that the seal's lip contains a Teflon-like substance that connects with the crank after the initial start.2.) Seal flaring tool: During the dry install, the plastic cup's function is to slightly extend the lip/inner seal. The seal should relax over the crank once it has been moved past the plastic expansion tool and over the hump or flare. You run the danger of rolling the lip backward if you don't use the flare tool (toward flywheel).3.) Installation: I will position the seal so that it is level with the exterior of the cover and 1/4 inch away from the outside of the connection point between the flywheel and the crank. A second factory "slinger" seal was included in the previous seal set, although it was noted that it was not required to be reinstalled. The redesigned seal has a thinner outer lip that shields against debris entry. To remove the slinger and the rear main, the aluminum housing had to be pulled (probably not necessary, just a pain to get the seals out). A few days before fixing the seal, I placed the cover (since there was no gasket, I used rtv). There are several examples on YouTube where the seal is installed into the cover before the cover is fastened to the engine; this didn't make much sense to me. Given that RTV is required, the plate requires extra attention.
