This ladder is very useful for a lean-to. I'm a petite woman, and I had no trouble carrying this ladder up and down stairs to reach rooms with vaulted ceilings so I could paint them. Of course, I had a spotter at the bottom of the ladder and made sure it was resting on studs because this isn't the intended usage for this kind of ladder, but it's a lot more height for the money than an A-frame! This is simple to extend and, to my gleeful surprise, it also simple to collapse. I was worried that it would operate more like a tape measurer, in which case you should remove all of your fingers before pressing the button to retract. Fortunately, it has some kind of hydraulic mechanism that allows it to fold in gradually, one rung at a time, without giving a shock, when you click the collapse buttons. I advise using this ladder sparingly and having a spotter nearby.

This ladder has two steps that are roughly a foot apart, and the frame goes up an additional half-foot. The primary hinge appears to be sturdy, and the frame is one tall bend of tubing with a smaller bend that folds out. Every action is a separate unit. Although the step supports are thin, they appear to be adequate. I climbed up and it didn't seem to be strained by my weight. The fragile safety lock is the only weak spot. When you put up the ladder, you just swing out a short, flat metal curve that, on one end, grabs hold of the support for the top step. Do not act boisterously when you ascend this ladder because it wouldn't take much to knock it out of place.

This was purchased for my son-in-law who conducts home inspections. He claimed that he had used a similar ladder in the past to access the roof or doorways leading to the attic. The only problem he saw was that it was getting more difficult to close and open the other ladder with time.This ladder is fantastic so far. The only thing he advises folks to be aware of is that you should protect your fingers when closing it since it can actually cut your finger. My needs have been addressed by this ladder! Since I live in an RV full-time, storage and expanded sizes are crucial. When folded, it takes up very little room yet unfolds into an 8-foot "A-frame" ladder or a 16-foot extension ladder. Because it stops about 4 inches between each rung before you release it, closing it won't snag or pinch your hands. The main drawback is that in the A-frame configuration, it must be fully extended because it does not lock in the closed position, which could allow it to tip or sway.
