After checking with Raypak and learning they wouldn't honor a warranty on an Internet-purchased machine, I bought this through an authorized Raypak dealer in GA. This is unfortunate because purchasing on Amazon would cost at least $400 less. I wanted to share my installation experience with you because there wasn't much information online to help me. What I recommend is: 1) Despite what other people have said, the unit is really quiet. Your pool pump will sound significantly louder. 2) Because the unit produces a lot of heat, you must trim all tree limbs from above it to a height of at least eight feet above the heat stack. 3) Your guarantee will be void if neither the plumber installing the gas line nor the installation of Raypak are licensed. Keep all supporting documents. 4) Our 16,125-gallon pool warms up at a rate of 1.5 degrees each hour. If it's extremely cold outside, it will take at least 12 hours for all of the water to be replaced at the desired temperature because of our pool water's 12-hour filter recycle rate. For instance 5) Ensure that a gas meter that is the right size for the appliance and all of your other gas appliances is installed by the gas company. 6) A P-trap and two shut-off valves, one on each end of the gas line, are required. 7) Ensure that the line is the proper size for the distance and BTUs. The unit's efficiency is greatly decreased when the line is undersized. 8) The electricity from the filer will be used to operate the milli start switch. 9) To ensure that the unit lasts a long time, you MUST HAVE BALANCED PH AND CHLORINE. I cannot stress this enough. Given that we have only been using it for a week, I will provide an update with additional experiences. Swimming in the 85 degree water in April when the outside temperature was 70 was wonderful.

The base performs as promised. The phrase "Must be used indoors" is deceptive; it just means that it cannot be put in the area of the coop that is outdoors and exposed to the elements. Mine works just great when I keep it in the coop's enclosed area. However, the base rusts easily, so I'll probably build a little platform to raise it off the ground. It's the only heater I've discovered that won't damage plastic vases. All winter long, it prevented the icing of my 7-gallon plastic fount.

We are completely happy with the heater's performance because it is exactly as promised in the advertising.The disappointment is/was that we purchased the exact same model as we had in 2007. The original model used a four conductor communication cable that gave us parallel control over the heater from inside the house—it was simple to see the water temperature, to determine whether the heater was heating, and to set the target temperature. Nice work from a tiny, straightforward panel in the home:).No more four conductor hookup; three wire is now only for use with "whole system automation" panels or expensive, wi-fi capable collectors if you want to control the heater from a distance. Four stars instead of five because, as an electrical/computer science engineer, I am aware that adding the 4 conductor portal and firmware for our legacy interface wasn't particularly difficult. It just doesn't seem like it would be worth an extra 600–1000 USD to have a little more control over the heater.Since my old Sta-Rite remote panel is no longer functional with this edition, I could have/should have done more research before buying and possibly found a whole new product that was already wi-fi capable.

I bought this last year, perhaps a month into the swimming pool season. I waited to write a product evaluation until I could observe how the heater operated when the pool was first opened. First, some background information: my pool measures 16 by 32 by 4.5 feet and holds about 16,000 gallons. Since I'm on the western high plains, the summers here are generally hot during the day and cool at night. Low humidity is the norm.I took a gamble on this heater because it seemed a little inadequate for my needs but had received great ratings from numerous people with pools of a comparable size. Here is an analysis of my experience.Ordering is fine. The shipped item arrived on schedule. 5 starsShipping is terrible! Amazon is awful. I will never, ever, ever again purchase a big item from Amazon. Poorly wrapped and with obvious box damage, the heater was delivered. In actuality, the heater was placed in the package UPSIDE DOWN, according to the vendor. The heater so had some external scrapes and dings, which were only superficial damage. Although Amazon would place the responsibility for bad handling on the courier, the issues began with Amazon's subpar packaging. Negative 2 starsvendor relationships I turned it on after installing the heater's plumbing and had the electrician connect it. The device created loud clunking noises and excessive vibrations. My call to the seller's 1-800 number was returned by a call. He suggested I remove the unit case and look inside after we had a discussion. Surprise! The fan blade was damaged during shipping. I received a replacement right away from the vendor along with installation guidelines. Even after that, he checked to make sure everything was in order. 5 starsOperation: According to an internal thermometer, the heater increases the difference in water temperature between the entering and departing streams by 2-3 degrees. The water erupting from the discharges feels warmer to me. I was able to minimize to nearly completely remove the typical 2-3 degree nocturnal heat loss I get during a typical summer by running the heater at night with the sun cover on. But when I bought it, I was hoping it would boil the water quickly so we could use the pool sooner in the swimming season. We weren't able to go swimming until almost the middle of June last year, despite the pool being opened in mid-May. So on May 20 of this year, I turned on the heater and opened the pool. There were 58 degrees in the water. May 24th, and the pool is already above 80 degrees! This afternoon, we're going swimming! It should be noted that this uses a lot of electricity because the heater is being run continuously. Soon, I'll limit my running to nights exclusively. 5 starsIn conclusion, this heater is too little for my pool's size, but I was aware of that before buying. In contrast, it has made it possible for us to begin swimming earlier in the season, which was my intention. Its small size means that it will use more electricity than the heater that is next in size. A good purchase all around.

It is about 10° warmer than just using a solar cover in our 15' Intex pool and was very simple to put up. I may purchase another just to observe how much that will alter.It is heated by the sun, thus obviously many factors can alter how effectively it functions. The pool was heated by more than 15 degrees above normal on the days when the UV was deemed to be "extreme." It didn't do much to heat it on overcast, chilly days; maybe it boosted the temperature by 5°.Our favorite! It's effective for us! Anyone who is familiar with how anything solar operates should try it, in my opinion. It won't maintain a constant temperature in your pool. Numerous additional factors as well as the sun are important.

This solar panel was purchased to power a 15-foot round above-ground pool. This has been a fantastic thing! The pool was kept at 82 after one day, and by day four, it had risen to about 90! However, if you want to retain that heat, you must have a solar cover to prevent excessive heat loss at night. The pool was still between 80 and 82 despite the fact that we have had very little sun and colder temperatures in the low 70s during the last two days. The water flows through it at a respectable rate and yet warms up well because our pump only has a little more than one horsepower.However, there are a few things to remember.The hoses are rather short, so you will need to purchase longer hoses if the panel needs to be put farther from the pump to receive full sun.We had to get crafty at the neighborhood large box home improvement store to manufacture adapters to fit longer hoses because we have an Intex sand filter. The good news is that you wouldn't need to do anything unusual if you simply used everything that was provided and could place it close to the pump. But I'm mentioning it since a lot of people will be dependent on where the light shines and you'll probably need longer hoses.Did I mention the sun? Because if you want to see the pool temperatures rise, you will need full sun for the majority of the day. You're going to have trouble if the sun only shines on your panel for a few hours. Where our panel is located, it receives full 8 hours of sunlight, and our pump runs for 6 to 8 hours throughout that time. It stays between 82 and 86 on partly sunny days, gets up to 90 on fully bright days, and drops to 80 on gloomy days if the overcast weather persists for a few days.Invest in more of these if you have a larger pool. Our 15-foot pool can be heated by only one of them, but if you had a larger pool—say, one that is oval or longer than 18 feet—I believe two would be your best bet. Your pool will heat up more as the water remains in the coils for a longer period of time.You must have a solar cover, as I noted earlier, but it bears repeating. The best purpose of a solar cover is to keep that expensively heated air inside throughout the night. It may also be used to assist heat your pool. Without a cover, you may easily lose 5 degrees of heat at night. It is your responsibility for allowing all that beautiful heat to escape into the night if you have this panel and it never seems to warm up or remain warm and you don't have a decent solar cover.Overall, this panel performs admirably as long as you do your part to ensure that it is able to do so.
