Due to a window, a large amount of computer equipment, and a single AC vent, my home office can occasionally become quite warm. This portable air cooler seemed to be my best option because I am unable to purchase a true air conditioner.Simply fill the water reservoir to the Full line, plug it in, and click the Power button to get it started. It has a nice bottom that changes color. To go with my motif, I made mine blue. When you switch it on, the mist can be seen emerging (even in the photos). You may program it to shut off automatically after two or four hours, and you can also adjust the vents' height to direct airflow more effectively.It performs a good job of cooling off my small, heated office overall. Initial assessment: Item received. I created my own window insert out of 3/4" plywood with the holes wider apart as suggested by others. In order to make the plywood airtight to the inserts, I caulked around the holes drilled for the hose inserts and used window foam sealer to fill the gaps to the window frame. I put an air filter in the outside air intake and wrapped the hoses with insulated hose covers from Home Depot. For the air intake into the condenser from interior air, Whynter provided a carbon filter that is incredibly thin and folded in half. When I first opened the filter, I initially believed I had only received half of it. Therefore, opened and inserted. The first few nights, the unit kept the room chilly without a hitch.Observations after day 3:I bought a Whynter air intake filter, which adds a screen and clips into the machine before the air intake pipe. I then understood that the clip-in places enable air leaks. There is nothing wrong with air intake, but air removal introduces warm air into the flow of air that is used to chill rooms after passing through a carbon filter. The issue was fixed by some duct tape. The modified units are sturdy, quiet, and completely effective. There is a significant difference from the LG single hose device I was previously testing from the Orange Big Box Store (name removed). This unit uses only interior air to cycle through coils rather than pulling all the air inside and pushing half outside, which causes the room to need air replenishment from other hot, warmer areas of the house. As a result, the room cools more quickly, is quieter, and uses the condenser less. Highly advised. Even while it's undoubtedly not the best thing ever, it works to calm you down. As a safety measure, it won't be able to cool your room. The built-in fan isn't noisy to me personally in any manner (some of the 1-star reviewers are crazy). When I selected the "Cooling" setting, it kept me cool while I slept in an 80 degree environment (had to turn it off a couple of times because I began to freeze.) This is undoubtedly portable, but it must be attached to an electrical outlet (which isn't a big deal). When the cooling setting is used at the lowest fan speed (which is typically what I use during the long, hot evenings), it lasts for more than 2 hours. After that, you can just refill it with regular tap water and continue using it for another 2 hours. Regarding leaks, there was a minor amount of leakage (water drop the size of a dime and less) when I had the vents pointed downward at the same time as the cooling system was on, but I never experienced a situation of a significant volume of water seeping through the bottom of the machine. Since I've been using it for almost two weeks and haven't seen any mold or dirt buildup inside, I haven't cleaned it yet. Overall, this tiny device is valuable.

It won't perform as well as a genuine air conditioner would and won't fill a complete room, but if you keep the air moving within five feet of the area you're aiming to chill down, it works great. The air is already cool when you use it, but if you want it even colder, I've frozen the filter after soaking it in water for 5 to 10 minutes. Once frozen, take it out and give it one last quick rinse before putting it in the Artic. Crushed ice should also be added to the tank in addition to water. If it were bigger, this would make it so frigid that you may mistake it for air conditioning. Crushed ice is the best way to accomplish it in my opinion, therefore I'll always add some. If you want the added benefit of a wonderful soothing smell, you may also add some essential oils to the filter heads; but, if you add mint, the air will actually feel cooler. It isn't very loud either; you can definitely hear it, but just slightly louder than a typical fan, and eventually it just becomes white noise. The night light would be my lone complaint. I kind of wanted it to be brighter and more led-like than the previous iteration of this device, which I never bought but have seen others use. This light is in the water tank, so it's not quite as bright, but it's adequate if you don't need a lamp-like light source, just a tiny hint of illumination.
