I want to thank Theo for his review on September 11 because it inspired me to buy this product.When I tried to remove the drain valve from my air compressor, it snapped off, and there didn't seem to be any way to clean the threads. I was in the same situation.In particular, the drain valve on my vintage Porter Cable CPF4515 started to leak.The original soft brass drain valve ultimately broke off during my attempts to remove it, and its brass threads remained in the steel threads of the drain hole in the tank.Only the first 2 or 3 steel threads of the air tank remained visible after removing as much of the brass debris as possible.The soft brass of the previous drain valve was still "clogging" the remaining threads.Was researching into thread "chasers," but opinions on their efficacy seemed to be conflicted.I tried it after reading about Theo's effective usage of this taper for the same reasons I had.Used a 1/2 "Using a ratchet driver and some cutting oil, all of the brass was gradually removed from the threads.Sometimes wanted to cross-thread, but backed it out to get it straightened up and kept working.This 1/4-inch Hanson 1903ZR Tap "For my application, -18Npt Taper worked out perfectly.If someone else is in the same predicament as me, I'd suggest trying it.

The soft metal and polymers are ideal for this 1/8" NPT tap. I purposefully purchased the High Carbon Steel tap since the Cobalt HSS 1/8 NPT tap I was using was bottoming out in the hole I was threading into. In order to grind off the initial few threads then tap deeper into the hole to engage more threads, I needed a "softer" steel tap. I was able to avoid grinding my $65 1/8 NPT Cobalt tap thanks to this $5.00 tap (at the time of this writing).I used this without any problems on aluminum. To ensure that everything sliced easily, I made sure to add a tiny bit of oil here and there. This tap probably wouldn't have any trouble cutting through soft alloys like copper or brass either, in my opinion. This functioned as intended for my purpose, and overall, it's a nice tap for soft metals and plastics.

It is a tap that both does and explains what it does. Carbon steel without a doubt; preserve it in an oil coat after use, just like any steel tap or die.saved me from having to tear out a part of the house's drain in order to repair a T fitting. Normally, I would replace the fitting because doing so would be far less expensive, but this fitting was a crucial component of the vent and drain system for my bathroom sink. There were fused and corroded threads on the horizontal nipple connecting the drain/vent T branch to the P trap. To replace the T fitting, I would have had to tear out all of that piping from the floor to the roof. I decided to buy this tap and a large bottle of Tap Magic instead. I'll tell you right now that I've never been happier to have a tap on. Saves time and money!

This tap was applied to an aluminum casting. I thought the tap was really high quality and it sliced cleanly. I do think that in some circumstances, the upper extreme of the tapping surface can have a diameter that is too large to allow for a snug plug fit. Therefore, be careful not to overextend while using this tap to plug a drain or pipe because if you do, your plug won't ever "seat," leaving you with a leak or, worse still, a plug that overextends into the casing or pipe. I have no doubts about buying this tap again.

Only machine bolts, coarse or fine thread, are often included in tap kits. The most popular industrial NPT fittings are included in this set, which has pipe thread. My primary materials are brass, stainless steel, and steel, all of which are excellent for mending threads. Although I would use caution when cutting new threads, I would expect that the kit is sufficiently challenging.

It was simple to utilize the 1/4 NPT Tap, and it was successful (mild steel material). All of these appear to be of high quality and should serve me well for a long time. Although the plastic holder appears to be intended for drill bits, it may be used for other things with a little tweaking.
