With a 2019 Prius Prime, I am utilizing this charger. The NEMA 10-30 plug that came with is compatible with the 240V clothes drier outlet in my garage. This outlet was underused because I don't have an electric dryer, and it's convenient to have the car charger on a separate circuit breaker. The appliance appears to be well-made. The J-1772 plug and heavy-gauge wire are the perfect fit for the car's receptacle. This charger cost $208, which is less than half of what I would have spent for an L2 charger from my local electric company and just a quarter of what Toyota is asking for them. According to the specifications, it has a maximum output of 3840 watts, which is 2.67 times the OEM L1 charger's available 1440 watts. The Lectron L2 charger reduces the full-recharge time by almost half, to 2 hours 40 minutes, when compared to the OEM charger, which takes approximately 5 hours and 40 minutes. To put this time frame into perspective, I have charged this car using a 240 volt 32-amp (7680 watt) charger multiple times, and it still takes 2 hours and 40 minutes. Therefore, even if the charger is capable of giving more, it appears that the traction battery charge controller in the car is restricting the maximum rate of charge to roughly 3200 watts (13.3 amps at 240 volts). I'm pleased I learned this because, had I not, I could have spent $400 or more on a 32 amp charger just to discover that the car won't even charge at currents greater than 12 to 13 amps. I advise you to ask a service technician what the actual maximum rate of charge that your vehicle will accept is if you are thinking about purchasing a Level 2 charger for any plug-in hybrid or pure-electric EV. It is a waste of money to pay more to purchase a charger with a higher power capacity. This charger also came with a beautiful carrying case, which was another feature I like. It's not particularly robust, but it's better than nothing. At the very least, it will contain the 21-foot cable during transportation. Since the L1 OEM charger that came with my Prius didn't include any sort of carrying bag, I am actually using the carry case that was included with my L2 charger. If I can find another carry bag, I'd want to get it.
