bought this to create a Linux system (Mint 19.2, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, Asrock B450M Pro4). To prevent taking over M/B ports, I wanted to add SATA connections for the DVD and eSATA. Plug and Play with BIOS 3.50 functions flawlessly (even when starting from a DVD). used an eSATA enclosure to work on HDD diagnostics. I also bought a SHINESTAR item that had a similar appearance. The cards actually appear to be identical.

These SATA controller cards are frequently rebranded versions of the same model. This was the best deal I could find for what I needed.When the OS first launched, I initially had issues with this causing my PC to freeze every few seconds. In order to have the card fixed, I had to uninstall it. Customer service was very attentive and prompt in providing advice. I make an effort to keep my computer updated, but the mobo had an outdated BIOS because MSI Live Update did not include BIOS in its updates. A fresh build of Windows 10 was just made available.I reinstalled the card using those updates and the driver that Customer Support supplied me, and I'm delighted to report that it now functions properly. The system is trouble-free, my DVD burner is now connected, and I have space for more disks or other SATA gear.A little computer knowledge for anyone else who utilizes a comparable system and might experience the same issue I did.Microsoft Windows 10, MSI Ryzen 5 1600, Corsair 16GB RAM (8GB x 2), MSI B350 Tomahawk Plus motherboard, MSI RX580 Gaming X 8G. I've had the card in my PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot.The card did come with six cords, but I couldn't use them because they were too short. Additionally, because my computer is red in hue, the blue didn't really go with it. Also included are screws and a driver CD.I'd purchase from Ziyituod once more.

I had a SATA 3.0 board with 8 ports. Although there were drivers, it wasn't clear which of the two sets of drives on the CD was included. Anyway, Windows 10 managed to locate some drivers for it, and it largely functioned. The fact that all of the hard drives on this card appeared in Windows 10 as portable/removable drives was still a hassle for me. Despite being put inside my PC, they could all be removed. My motherboard, however, has two sata controllers and 10 sata ports, two of which are on the second controller. Even though they are mounted inside the PC, those two ports also appeared as portable or removable drives. I eventually discovered a registry modification that would enable those drives to be adjusted to not appear as portable in Windows 10 after much online searches for a fix. The two ports on the motherboard didn't function, but the ports on the card functioned. So I attempted to upgrade the computer's BIOS for those. Unfortunately, once they did that, the 8-port sata card was no longer recognized by the computer when it tried to load up.I ended up purchasing two of these 4-port cards as a result. These enable my machine to start up without a problem, and I have eight additional SATAII disks installed in addition to the motherboard's 10 SATAII drives (only 8 of these are hard drives, the other two are the boot SSD and a Blu-ray player). This one appeals to me because there is no need for a driver. The two sata connections on the motherboard that cause the two drives to appear as portable, ejectable drives in Windows 10 will no longer be used once I install a third one today.The following is the internet fix I discovered for anyone experiencing similar issues with Windows 10 Pro presenting their sata drives as portable/ejectable drives:I just had one drive, thus I had the same issue. When you've reached the Device Key, Right-click on the right-hand plane to create a new Multi-String Value. A new variable with the string TreatAsInternalPort To edit the new value, double-click it. Depending on how many ports you have, start with 0 in the Value Data area before moving on to 1 2 or 3. The catch here is that the numbers must be vertical. This is how the value data part will appear:0s1s2s3s4s5s6s7s8s9s10s11The illustration will apply to twelve ports.You should include a distinct line for each port. I use this with Windows 10 Pro, build 1809. Additionally, as this involves editing the registry, DO NOT DO THIS if you are not confident doing so because doing so could potentially ruin your computer. It is best to create backups first. Someone who has almost 20 SATA devices is obviously not going to be a computer novice.:)



Hewlett Packard SAS Expander Card Review:


This is a rather inexpensive solution to expand your functional RAID card, but before anything functions, you will probably need to upgrade the firmware on both the parent RAID card and this expander card. Plan your schedule carefully because finding the firmware upgrades and making bootable USB or CD media can take some time. The firmware upgrade must be completed offline, and even with the card installed and the necessary wires connected, the RAID will not function since the parent RAID card cannot see the expander until the firmware update is complete. Additionally, the directions for installing the cabling are vague. To put it simply: in order for everything to function, ALL SAS cables must pass through this card (it kind of ends up being a SAS "splitter").If I were to do this again, I might invest a little extra cash to buy a second entire RAID card as it would only cost a few hundred more.

Once installed, this card performs nicely and functions effectively. I connected an SSD to a SATA port on the motherboard before connecting it to a port on this card as a quick performance test. CrystalDiskMark6 revealed that the card's performance was comparable to that of the motherboard port. The card seems to be of decent quality. I would rate the card with five stars based on its quality and performance.Although not difficult, installation may have gone more smoothly, which is why it only received a 4 star review. The instructions do a fantastic job of walking you through how to launch Windows Device Manager and locate the card in order to install drivers from the provided CD. The first issue I encountered was that, contrary to what the instructions said, the card appeared under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers rather than Other Devices with a yellow triangle. Despite the fact that this showed the device to be functioning properly, none of the drives I connected to the card were visible until I loaded the drivers that came with it. This brought about the second catch. One of the devices that wasn't connected was my DVD/CD drive because I had used up all of the motherboard's SATA connections. In the end, I had to unplug a drive in order to connect the DVD/CD drive, install the drivers, and then plug in the drive I had to unplug. If there had been a link in the instructions that could have been used to get the drivers from the Internet, that would have been much nicer.

I decided to take a chance on this card because I needed to add a few extra sata drives to my Dell XPS 8930, and I must say that I'm quite delighted with it. I connected a Samsung 500gb 850 evo to the card in a PCIe 3 x1 slot, and it instantly detected the device without the need for any additional drivers. I used Samsung Magician and Crystal DiskMark, and they both produced nearly identical results as when they were connected to the motherboard's native SATA ports. I was worried that it would slow someone else's boot time, but mine was unaffected at all. With the card empty and one or two sata drives connected, I'm still receiving a 12-second boot time. I'm glad it's so simple to install ports like this because it seems to be just as good as my motherboard's sata connectors. For any machine with an open x1 PCIe 3 slot, we strongly advise. In the near future, I might add a second one as well.

I initially purchased this for an outdated mini-ITX motherboard with a PCIe X1 adaptor. In that use situation, it performs exactly as anticipated. However, I made the decision to transfer this card and the associated drives to my ESXi host, where I then set up a virtual FreeNAS instance and imported the configuration from the original FreeNAS hardware. The card is great, however I had to install the drivers on another computer by copying them from the microCD because the one I was installing on didn't have a CD/DVD drive and I couldn't find them online.But as soon as it was placed, it operated without any issues whatsoever.

This is a fantastic item! Remember that this is a PCI card, not a PCIe card, and that the reason you won't obtain lightning-fast speeds with this card has less to do with the card itself and more to do with the restrictions of the PCI interface. But if you simply need some data backups or need to complete jobs where data speed is not as vital, this card is for you! Although this card has its own BIOS, which was causing some boot problems, it is an easy fix; just make sure that your OS drive is the #1 choice for all available options in the mother board BIOS. My Debian Linux server recognized this card right out of the box, and it really didn't take any tinkering to get it to work. Since the mini-itx has a limited number of SATA ports, the media and OS are connected to these for speed while the general backup for movies, work documents, etc. are attached to the SATA card.
