In 2015, I bought this VERY well-made test set. Using a 12 volt lamp and 10-14 gauge wire, I had always created my own. Why I didn't purchase this sooner is beyond me. The wiring in our house is being redone, and attempting to figure out which wire truly leads to which circuit breaker was a nightmare! I got this to avoid running up and down the basement stairs as much. It's AMAZING! The wiring in a house built in the early 1940s is a nightmare. We are now aware of which breaker each outlet, lamp, and ceiling fan connect to. We also followed other junction boxes that seemed to go nowhere, but we were able to determine their location. We were able to precisely tag each breaker thanks to this, and the electrician now has a road plan to follow, perhaps more logically. I was amazed by the aesthetic quality as soon as I opened the packaging. To test it out on my own pickup, I took it outside to the garage. I touched it to the battery's positive post while grounding it to my body. I quickly realized that the LCD window was facing away from me, and when I tried to correct, the tester stopped operating. At this point, I'm fairly irate. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the cable end screws off, so I took it off to see whether there was an inline fuse, but all that was there was a spring to maintain tension between the cord and the volt meter mechanism. It started operating again with no further hiccups once I washed it up and put it back together.When you're in an inconvenient position and can't shift to see it correctly, the numbers aren't clearly visible until you have the LCD window in the ideal position.Overall, those were the only two drawbacks I encountered with this gadget, which functions somewhat similarly to the Power Probe that I also own. Almost unable to wait to use it!

Despite the fact that I am not the least bit handy, I needed a way to change plugs in my new home because hiring an electrician would cost hundreds of dollars.This device works as intended. The tester is excellent. It is a little challenging to distinguish between the white and yellow markings on the label, as was highlighted in a previous review, but it isn't too challenging if you are in good lighting. Another useful innovation is the ability to test GFCIs.To be clear, this is a typical outlet tester that can be used with non-GFCI outlets. However, it also has an additional button that allows you to check to see if the GFCI trips when it should.This was useful to me when I replaced an outside socket with a more weatherproof box because I don't know much about electricity. Given that some other lines in our home aren't connected properly, I wanted to make sure the outlet was. I also wanted to see how the GFCI might trip. Even though I don't own many of them, I've long been a lover of Klein tools. Their hand tools, such as screwdrivers and cutters, are always of the highest quality. It's the brand I mostly observe professionals utilising. Even though the sensitivity direction may be improved, the circuit breaker finder is still a useful tool. Two breaks in front of and two breakers behind the search, the receiver typically starts reporting the correct circuit. To make sure you're on the circuit with the transmitter attached, you must move very slowly. In any case, it's still preferable to having to trip multiple breakers in search of the right one. also eliminates a lot of steps.

Compared to the Ideal unit and the Amprobe unit, this unit took a very lengthy time for me to research. Each has some advantages and disadvantages. I choose to use this unit for a number of reasons. One, I liked the size of the screen. After owning it, I can state that this device's one major flaw is that, while having a huge screen, Extech does not utilize it. Actually, there is only one reading active at once. This implies that in order to obtain the necessary readings when testing several outlets, you must scroll through all the pages and subpages. I would really like it if they put a few significant readings on the first page.The cost is the second reason I chose this particular item. I was able to get it when Amazon's pricing went below $200. That makes it almost half as expensive as the previously mentioned other two units. I'm always eager to spend more for higher quality, but all of the units seemed to fall into the same category. And to be quite honest, as a house inspector, I don't utilize this tool very often. This was something I wanted as an additional diagnostic tool when other things made me think there might be an issue. It is not practicable to call for wiring inspections on a regular basis because almost every property will have some wiring problems, most commonly significant voltage drops.I really wish this device could recognize a bootleg ground and show it right away. But figuring out whether a bootleg ground is there is simple if you know how to read the results.One issue I do have with the device is that, if the outlet is downstream of a gfci outlet or circuit, it will trip it when checking ground impedance. However, because of how that is tested, the other units might also be to blame for this. I can't comment on that because I haven't owned an Ideal or an Amprobe.The fact that the power cord is twisted such that the plug is sideways is the biggest aggravation I have had with this device. This requires me to hold the unit sideways or twist the cord to plug it in when testing. Highly irritating and the cord will undoubtedly become damaged with time.Finally, the CT80's capacity to test AFCI circuits was what convinced me to choose it over the less expensive model. There is, as far as I am aware, no other way to test AFCI circuits besides at the breaker. The afci test hasn't worked on any of the circuits I've tried to test thus far. This is something I learned about through my investigation, and to be quite honest, given the amount I paid for the unit, I don't think it's a big concern. But I would unquestionably advise against spending more money on the CT80 if you are considering purchasing a circuit analyzer.In conclusion, Without a doubt, I'd suggest this item. My ability to identify and validate several electrical issues has helped me to both save my clients money and ensure the safety of their houses. It is undoubtedly a specialized instrument. I can't tell you how many electricians see this device and fall head over heels in love with it despite never having even heard of a circuit analyzer. I would strongly advise it if you need it and would use it frequently enough to warrant the cost.

For the price, this small LAN/Ethernet cable tester is excellent. It does have a slight "cheap" feeling, but that is not a significant concern. Its effectiveness is what matters. You can power it with either a single 9 volt battery or by connecting a micro USB cable to the tester's main body. Use a 9-volt battery that is fully charged if possible. The tester didn't function when I placed one that wasn't fully charged (the tiny LED light did, however, function), but it did so because it had sufficient power to operate the light. The LED light isn't that bright, but I suppose it may come in handy if you were stuck in a dark place. I also enjoy that you can link the two sections together or separate them. The instructions are written in sloppy English and are for a different model tester, so don't waste your time reading them. This is the best option for you if all you need is a reliable, inexpensive cable tester.

It actually working, I can't believe it. Normally, I don't review things, but I thought this one deserved it. Every year, I decorate my house with roughly 2000 lights and two indoor trees with about 500 lights each. I therefore have a few sets that are defective every year. Some of the bulbs are fixed when I check for loose or broken ones, but some just stop working and need to be replaced. Each year, I probably waste two hours trying to fix sets and thirty dollars buying new ones. Christmas is pricey enough without having to replace items that are still in good condition. Although it had excellent reviews on Amazon, I didn't believe it would actually work. I made the decision to attempt it since taking down and replacing a set of lights that had failed after I had decorated would have been a nightmare (they were in a place where it would be much easier to access one bulb with this tool than it would be to take down the whole set). I made the decision to try it. My suspicions were confirmed when I plugged in the tool and pulled the trigger, but the instructions said to pull it up to 30 times, so I did just that. To my astonishment, the set turned on. After replacing the bulb, my house looks fantastic. I already saved $4 and at least 30 minutes of my time out of the $17 I invested. This will save me many hours of wasted time and uncountable amounts of frustration over the years, more than paying for itself ten times over.
