My truck had the dreaded Chevy clunking, so I bought this steering shaft. I've had to put up with it for a long time. Given that the truck had 3000 miles on it, it literally clunked.I learn how to do it by watching YouTube how-to videos, and I also replace the steering wheel bearing. As you will be taking it apart, I would advise changing both.It appeared that folks were having trouble taking out the shaft, bearing, and reinstalling them. So, to my good fortune, I had thought of it beforehand. I mentally prepared for the worst.First, fasten the seatbelt and secure the steering wheel. I tightened it by wrapping it around the steering wheel, locking it, and repositioning the seat.Before you begin, make sure the steering wheel is locked.I took out one 15 mm bolt from the engine compartment's shaft and another 15 mm bolt from underneath the dashboard. Once removed, pull down on the shaft to separate it from the steering column with a little persuasion. The shaft will pull through the firewall underneath the dashboard after being separated. The bearing then emerged after I dragged it downward. Despite my expectations, it was easy for me to remove the old bearing.I lubricated the new bearing by applying grease to both the interior, where the shaft slides in, and the exterior, where the shaft slides up into the column. Just enough grease will help everything fit together; gobs won't do. Because the shaft easily moved into the bearing and the bearing slid into the shaft with no problems, it operated really well. Tighten the nuts when everything has been assembled. Although I'm sure there are specifications, they were really tight when I received them, so I simply retightened them as much as I could.I gave it a test drive, and then BLAM! Nothing clunky! Additionally, it appears like the steering is a little more responsive.If the steering wheel on your Chevy makes a loud noise, I would recommend replacing the top shaft and bearing.Just keep in mind to lock the wheel. Remove the bolts, separate, and pull out the old shaft. Grease the new shaft and bearing. I finished this in less than 30 minutes, starting to end. Some folks experienced major bearing problems, so I must have been lucky.Good fortune!

My steering become sluggish and began to struggle when I turned. I learned through my investigation that the steering shaft's universal joint or joints eventually wear out (130k miles). Since I am also in the Northeast, the undercarriage and other exposed metal parts and components take a beating from the snow and salt. I did some research and discovered that the required part, along with many other aftermarket parts, cost around $250. Due to the fact that this seller's price was so much cheaper than mine, I was hesitant to buy the part. I'm glad I made the decision to shoot. The item was properly in place, and installation was rather easy. Before starting this replacement, you should have a basic understanding of mechanics because you need to remove things unrelated to the steering shaft in order to have access to the lower shaft and set the bolt. The bolts that held the old steering shaft in place (x 2) had to be reused, and they fit this component without any issues. mounted on a 2003 GMC Sierra. The clunking in the truck, which I was unable to get rid of, was audible exclusively within the vehicle. Resolve the issue. The only issue I encountered was that the bolt hole underneath the dash didn't line up well, making it difficult to fit into the small space. Other than that, extremely content!!!

To install this component, make sure you have a 15mm socket, lubricant, and a tonne of foul language. Although it's quite easy to do, putting the new bearing onto the steering column calls for perseverance and nothing less than raw effort. Before attempting to install the new component, make sure you lubricate the steering column shaft, the bearing from the inside as well as the outside. Later on, you'll thank me. Also observe how precisely it slides into position. When you're finished, it should look like the attached photo shows the new piece installed properly.
