Best Antifreezes & Coolants in 2022

Last update: December 7, 2022

Can I use different brand coolant but same color?

Different brands of coolant can be used so long as they are the same color. The different colors of coolant indicate different chemical compositions, so using coolant of the same color ensures compatibility.

Can I use water as coolant?

You can use water as coolant, but it has to be distilled water. Coolant is used to remove heat from engine components and keep them from overheating. Water has a high specific heat capacity, which means it can remove a lot of heat before it starts to get hot itself. That’s why it’s used in car radiators and other cooling systems. Distilled water is the best choice for use as coolant because it doesn’t contain any minerals that could deposit on engine components and cause corrosion.

Can you mix different antifreezes together?

Different types of antifreeze can be mixed together, but it is not recommended as it can decrease the effectiveness of both products. Antifreeze is designed to lower the freezing point of water to prevent engine damage, and mixing different types can reduce the freezing point more than either product would on its own. This can lead to engine damage if the temperature gets too low.

Can you put anti freeze instead of coolant?

Genuine Nissan Fluid 999MP-L25500P Blue Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon Review:

Excellent manufacturing quality from Nissan. Incredible value (It is bought directly from Amazon USA). And thank you to Amazon for selling this item as the Nissan Dealer was charging $75 USD (not including labor) and the majority of auto outlets seldom carry this genuine equipment. Nissan should also reorganize its departments since even though a brand-new Nissan vehicle is great in terms of build quality and pricing, Nissan dealers consistently demand outrageous and intolerable prices for even a single good, much alone labor services.

Mopar 10 Year/150,000 Mile Coolant 50/50 Premixed Review:

I bought this to top off my new 2018 Ram 1500 Hemi's coolant reservoir. It arrived from the factory low, which is not a big concern because I like to have some on hand. FCA must do a better job of correctly citing this information from the owner's guide. The Mopar 10 years or 150,000 mile OAT coolant is mentioned in my handbook, which is accurate, however it also refers to MS.90032, which is not mentioned on this container or any other Mopar coolant container that I could locate. Instead, MS-12106 is listed in this container. Additionally, the bottle refers to it as Organic Acid Technology whereas my manual refers to it as Organic Additive Technology. To be sure this was the appropriate information, I had to do a little research. It shouldn't be this difficult. First, all MS numbers and part numbers from the owner's handbook to the container should coincide, and OAT should stand for the same thing WORD FOR WORD. The owner's manuals' tiny variations with OAT part numbers and MS references from 2013 to the present only add to the confusion. It's strange, I know, but that's what I read while conducting research. This substance can appear pink, orange, red, or purple depending on the temperature and the color of the container it's in. In essence, avoid combining OAT with HOAT. Check what your manual specifies and use a coolant that is compatible.

Ford Genuine Fluid VC-3DIL-B Orange Pre-Diluted Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon Review:

This is the Orange color I needed for my Ford. I called the dealership ($$$) because I couldn't find it in stores, but a fast search on Amazon brought me to the solution

BMW 82141467704 Grey Antifreeze Coolant - 1 Gallon Review:

Just about 2 litres of coolant are required by the cooling system of the E92 335i. One gallon of this coolant, when combined 50/50 with distilled water as recommended by BMW, completely fills a cooling system that is empty, with a little room to spare. Before driving, make sure to perform the proper fill and bleed procedure: Remove the expansion tank's cap and bleed screw, fill the tank until coolant flows freely from the bleed hole, then tighten the cap and bleed screw. Next, activate the automatic bleeding process by performing the following steps: Connect a 10A battery charger to the jump start terminals in the engine compartment, turn the ignition on without applying the brake or clutch (to prevent the engine from stalling), and then press the gas pedal. The bleeding process is then finished after 12 minutes of electrical water pump cycling. Check sure the battery charger is securely connected before simply restarting the process by turning on the ignition and depressing the gas pedal once more if the ignition goes out soon after beginning. After that, check the coolant level.

Zerex 675130 Engine Coolant/Antifreeze, 1. gallons Review:

Excellent coolant for Scion, Lexus, and Toyota vehicles. Hyundai, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Acura, and other Korean and Japanese firms are listed on the back of the jug. I cleaned the coolant system in my Tacoma and flushed it with distilled water to remove any minerals that might have left deposits. The red and blue Zerex are nearly identical. These coolants are P-HOAT. The acronym refers to a technology known as Phosphorus-Hybrid Organic Acid Technology. They are based on ethelyn glycol. To match the coolants made by the manufacturer, they only apply various colours. Due to improved components and chemical additions, this mix of ethylene glycol has a far longer lifespan than the old green blend. Additionally, they conduct electricity less than the conventional green ethylene glycol combination. I heartily suggest this product if you drive an Asian-style car. Additionally, it costs around 50% less. For the correct coolant requirements, don't forget to consult your owner's handbook or a dealership that has been approved.

Engine Ice TYDS008 High Performance Coolant - 0.5 Gallon Review:

This substance alters the playing field. Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager from 2011... July/August 2017: Chicago to Camano Island, Washington 5000 miles on a hot-running bicycle. When I got home, I gave the bike a complete service, including installing Engine Ice and using synthetic clutch and brake fluids as well as a K

Genuine Ford Fluid VC-3-B Orange Concentrated Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon Review:

The best price is also what the owners manual specifically recommends. Truck needs a flush and a clean with 100,000 km. HOWEVER, Amazon's packaging is the worst yet! A plastic air bag? Really!! Furthermore, how did you imagine that would safeguard 4 gallons of antifreeze? The last several who handled it looked and stated, "Not on my watch," thus NEWS FLASH they were still in the large smashed in box! I cannot imagine it made it if I hadn't seen it for myself; there was only one bottle cap that was smashed, and it was approximately two inches inside of itself.

Genuine Subaru SOA868V9270 Super Coolant Review:

When you receive exactly what you purchased, it's difficult to detest what you bought. You should probably use your own judgment when purchasing this, as I can see that some reviews have problems with the incorrect coolant being provided. In order to flush my cooling system, I purchased two gallons of Subaru Super Coolant, and I got two gallons of the fluid. Place an order and take a chance.

Red Line RED80204 Water Wetter - 12 oz. Review:

I wasn't certain if this item was actually effective. According to other evaluations I read, the temperature gauge didn't decrease at all. This is as a result of the thermostat's necessary adjustments. So it's challenging to determine whether it operates with a thermostat in place. A few weeks ago, I temporarily removed my car's thermostat in order to clean the engine coolant system. My water was finally keeping clean after thoroughly cleansing the system every weekend for two months. And I was simply using water from a standard garden hose. With simply water, the temperature kept rather cold. The cooling system was then once more drained and refilled, but this time I added wetter water. Now, compared to earlier, the engine coolant temperature remains significantly lower. The thermometer hardly even registers any increase. This means that it absolutely works. Of course, I'll install the thermostat again soon, but in the meanwhile, it's interesting to see what the cooling system is capable of.

Camco 36190 RV Winter Readiness Kit - Includes Antifreeze Concentrate and Hand Pump, Blow Out Plug, Dehumidifier and More - Comes with Bonus Winterizing Guide Review:

Let me begin by mentioning that I have owned my camper for five seasons and have taken it to the neighborhood dealer every time, paying exorbitant prices. I finally realized that I could do this myself and save some money, so I started looking for a solution. My go-to source for solutions is Amazon, where I discovered the Camco RV Readiness Kit. It has all the essentials, plus one thing I didn't thought I needed but ended up using. Since the piping in my Rockwood Model 150 Pop Up camper is limited, I decided against using the blowout plug and instead simply pushed the water out with the anti-freeze solution. I was very relieved to discover that it was non-toxic since it got all the way to the driveway as I switched the included pump from one bottle to the next. Two and a half bottles were used to fill my system, with the remaining bottle being used to fill the fresh water holding tank. This was more than enough because I also have to winterize a shower, a toilet, and a holding tank. Before using the accompanying door bracing, I had never considered leaving the fridge door open. Brilliant! The order bag functions great, and the dehumidifier will undoubtedly be fantastic. The pail it all arrived in caught everyone off guard. Since my shower hose is too short to reach the door, I used the bucket as a reservoir while injecting the anti-freeze. Later, I'll post images so I can demonstrate just how great everything is. I usually spent about $180 to have my camper finished (I live in a very pricey location), but this kit helped me to make significant savings! A happy wife leads to a happy life, and money saved makes the wife happy. I searched YouTube for a video that would demonstrate how to operate everything, but it wasn't difficult to figure out.Pros:contains all the materials you need to winterize a pop-up camper of a comparable size. The bucket accommodates everything and provides space for the leaking pump.thoughtfully chosen accessoriesreputable brandCons:a plastic blow out adaptor was included. Although I did not use it, I am very certain that my compressor would devour it whole. Add two dollars to the price and a brass one.

Does coolant expire?

Yes, coolant does expire. Depending on the type of coolant, it can last anywhere from 2 to 5 years. The coolant in your car helps keep the engine cool and prevents it from overheating. Over time, the coolant can break down and become less effective. If you notice your car is overheating more often, it's a good idea to check the coolant level and make sure it's still good.

Does it matter what color coolant I use?

Different colors of coolant matter depending on the type of car you have. For example, if you have a BMW, you should use a blue coolant because it is specifically made for BMWs. However, if you have a Toyota, you can use a pink, red, or blue coolant because those colors do not matter as much for Toyotas. In general, it is important to use the correct color of coolant for your car to avoid any problems.

How do I know if my car needs coolant?

If you notice that your car is leaking coolant, it's a good idea to take it to a mechanic to have it checked out. Coolant leaks can be a sign of a serious problem, so it's best to have a professional take a look.

Is it OK to mix pink and green coolant?

Yes, it is perfectly fine to mix pink and green coolant. In fact, many mechanics will mix the two colors together to create a custom shade that is easy to see. The important thing is to make sure that the coolant is compatible with the engine, and that you follow the manufacturer's recommendations for the correct ratio of water to coolant.

What are 2 other names for coolant?

Other names for coolant are antifreeze and engine coolant. Coolant is a fluid that is used to remove heat from an engine or other mechanical component. It is usually a water-based solution, but can also be oil-based. Coolant can help to prevent engine overheating, freezing, and corrosion.

What are the common antifreezes?

The most common antifreezes are made from ethylene glycol and propylene glycol. These glycols lower the freezing point of water, which prevents the engine from freezing in cold weather.
