First off, the mic hole is the only reason it doesn't get five stars. During testing, I could hardly hear anything unless the microphone was held up to my mouth and pointed directly at me. It can be manually enlarged with a little drill bit and then functions perfectly. The microphone is actually more sensitive than the one on a Baofeng radio after the mic hole is opened. Excellent audio quality is delivered through the earpiece. You can't go wrong with them at about $3 each.

This product is something I recently purchased. I immediately thought, "Here we go again, another cheap speaker mic that I spent a lot for." after opening the box. (I was impressed even though I reside in Jersey and had regular delivery; it arrived the following day at 9am; very remarkable.) Upon closer examination, I discovered that the wire entering the speaker mic and the radio was reinforced. I next try out my audio with two radios, placing one in the living room and using the other in my room. I could not tell the difference at all; it sounded fantastic! Later on, while I was using a repeater, another ham radio friend corroborated this. The audio jack was the only other feature that attracted my notice; at first it seemed too little to fit, but you only needed to push down firmly, and vice versa, to remove it. The only mistake I could see was in the wire's tendency to coil in an odd way (see image attached), but the packaging was to blame for nothing being damaged. Overall, it's a fantastic speaker mic that you can just plug in and use.

This pricing is unbeatable. These have been ideal; I work with guys who spend 5 to 8 times as much on earpieces. It's nice to divide the two packs with a coworker or keep them for components. Even if one fails, you have a backup, and replacing one just costs a small amount of money. For less than the cost of a high-end set that breaks down/dies at the same rate, I could have a few of these lying around that would last me years. If moisture is added inside the tube, the sound quality soon declines. Even though I sweat and work outside in the rain, this doesn't happen frequently because all it takes to restore things to normal is to blow air through a tube to remove the moisture.

The ear pieces function perfectly, however the only thing I would advise is that you purchase extra mushroom earbuds because the earbuds that come with these devices are quite flimsy and are likely to fall out of your ears. Much more securely held in place are the mushroom ear buds. The length of the cords between the microphone and earpiece should be increased such that they extend to the palm of your hand. This will help to better conceal the microphones. There is barely enough cord to hang the mic from your visible lapel.

I deliberated a lot before choosing this set, and I'll try to be detailed. I chose it since it is inexpensive. Since my equipment experiences a lot of wear and tear, I usually aim for quality rather than frequently purchasing inexpensive replacements. My radios are a part of my daily attire and frequently my only means of contact when towers are down because they are used for everything from emergency management services to touring across the nation. I prefer this over both my pricey Lash system that chaffs my neck and my Motorola shoulder system.I was amazed by the build and sound quality for the price considering how well it works with my Motorola radios. The mic delivered clear audio even at a concert environment, and the PTT button worked well even when wearing gloves (important). Both the wire and the tubing have quick disconnects on the speaker, and when the wire is placed, an arm locks the wire in place. I've only ever used molded open-ear inserts, so I can't comment on the in-ear piece that comes with it. (Pro tip: Soak the ear inserts in warm water before molding them to your ear like a mouthguard. It goes without saying that you must shape them before attaching to your audio tube, which you must also trim for optimum fit.) Retevis' usage of a metal elbow instead of a plastic one that always breaks at the pivot point where the earbud and tubing meet is another thing I like.Communication on the side stage at a concert venue can be difficult, but I was happy with the sound quality both transmitting and receiving. In fact, I purchased two more for use with other radios, but regrettably I had to choose a different Retevis model because of the various PIN setups. With this set, everything feels sturdy, but the same cannot be said for the other Retevis units I received. I hope future iterations of this software don't cut corners. I'll share comparative images only to highlight the differences in quality and, perhaps, steer you away from this one's prospective quality modifications.

By disassembling the radio and using a soldering iron, it seems that there is a rather simple repair for this.
