Because Briggs no longer makes a replacement, I bought this to replace the Briggs engine that has been in my log splitter for more than 20 years. I didn't anticipate this to just plug in, but the ratings from earlier versions showed it was worth a little extra work. It was. It was love at first pull when I started up this dog after I had to drill a few new mounting holes in the frame and turn the recoil starter a little. amazing engine Amazing value.

Shop American. My chipper's engine needed to be replaced, and I didn't want to spend a fortune doing it. I looked into all the usual sources and discovered that the Chinese control that market. Cheap and readily available, I nearly purchased one. But I read a handful of the posted reviews beforehand, and I'm glad I did. If you're anything like me, you read comments from negative to positive. Read numerous posts about how the shafts break off (it saves time). Who matters how efficiently the engine operates if you are unable to use it, and where will you find components for it, and how long will it take to obtain them?As long as little engines have been manufactured, Briggs

well-packaged, fit well on my rototiller, was connected to everything, had gas in the tank, and was prepared to go! Just won't turn on at all! I pulled till my arm was about to break. Attempts to start it with an electric motor without success. Will not start despite a good spark! Very perplexed as to why it won't start! I contacted the seller, who promptly issued me labels to return the motor and assured me that they would send a replacement as soon as it was picked up. and they did, in fact! I got a new one a few days later, mounted it right away, added fuel and oil, and on the first pull, it fired right up and ran flawlessly! really happy! operates more smoothly than the tiller's original motor, which I purchased several years ago.

My Craftsman 917.289470 garden tractor's Kohler Courage SV735-0016 engine was a direct bolt-in replacement for this engine. Except for the significant congenital problem that it has had its entire life—a Kohler engine—my tractor was in excellent shape. Although the starter started clanging and clunking, and the mower had become so weak that it was no longer able to climb a hill, I now realize that the Kohler engine has always been poor. Mowing and climbing a slope could not be done simultaneously. The engine was only operating on one cylinder, and rebuilding it would cost little about $2 thousand, according to a reputable small engine mechanic in the area. He made me a $300 offer to buy the small tractor with the intention of either fixing the engine himself or selling it. I brought it home and ordered this engine since I'm handy. The engine replacement was a simple bolt-on swap. The electrical harness was a direct plug-in fit, the previous muffler fitted perfectly, and the shaft pullies easily attached. I didn't need to modify anything. The throttle and choke wires needed to descend the left side of the engine rather than the right side, which was the sole negligible variation. They could simply be moved from the right side to the left side because they were long enough. The throttle wire was really a little too long, so I had to find a clever way to tuck it under the dashboard.Making sure the shaft's diameter and length are equal is crucial. The engines on the majority of these garden tractors are identical because they are produced by the same firm. Your replacement will probably be simple, but you might need to buy a new muffler. Fortunately, my previous muffler fit well. The secret is to put the muffler on the exhaust pipes before lightly fastening the exhaust pipes to the engine.Even with the old muffler, which was significantly louder on the older Kohler engine, the tractor is now much quieter in this regard. I'm relieved the old Kohler engine is no longer around because it was junk from the start. My small garden tractor now has a new soul and a burning desire to devour grass. I'm glad I took a chance on a new engine for around $1,000 and spent the two hours to swap them out rather than selling it for $300 and then paying about $3500 on a new one.

Positives: Every component has a Kohler part number on it.Cons: The packaging may use some improvement. The oil leaked since the pieces were packed carelessly in a little box (not the one depicted in the product image). The oil filter is roughly an inch shorter than my original but has the same part number. Since my engine was manufactured, I must assume that Kohler has altered the filter size. I hope it offers enough security.

I continue to work on it. The engine won't rev all the way up. Sometimes it expires. No electric start is available. But I'll keep looking at it. I've just finished switching the gas engine in my scooter from a 900 watt electric motor. My driveway has a moderate slope, so it scarcely moves. Okay, I now have the starter worker after a few days and further alterations. The engine is currently operational but needs to be thoroughly warmed up. I did externally disconnect the governor. In addition, I need to replace the 25 tooth driven sprocket with one that has approximately 54 teeth. Otherwise, my clutch will be burning up.

I used this as a DC generator to charge my battery bank for solar power by coupling it with a 94 amp alternator. Today, 5-15-17, I ran it for the first time to see how it performed. So far, 4 hours have passed without a break, and it is running smoothly, feeding my inverter at a low idle, and producing 30 amps. However, until the fridge turns on and pulls the motor down, I'll be addressing that issue shortly with automation controls. You've got to love what electronics these days can accomplish when used in the right way.My opinion is that the muffler could be a little bit quieter, so I'm going to have another one welded to it to reduce the noise a little bit more. Before this, I was using a generator and a battery charger, but with the lower idle and smaller engine, I'll save money on fuel costs to eventually recoup my $900 investment. Yes, I purchased every component needed to build this from the ground up, and it took me two days to complete. An Eco Mode idle control and an auto start control that activates when the voltage falls to 12.1 volts are still to be included. Electric starts are useful. Why not invest in an inverter generator, you may wonder? Since an inverter generator only produces AC power and cannot be set up to start automatically, you cannot use it for simultaneous operations like direct DC power charging. In addition, since I already have a 3000 watt inverter, I don't need an inverter generator. After a gap of approximately 3 hours, this engine started without a choke for the first time today, which is fantastic because I've had pretty good luck with it.

Installed on a golf cart, the initial start went smoothly, however the second start caused the carabator to leak gas. Turned it off and removed the carburetor, which had what appeared to be a gasket sealer inside; cleaned it out and replaced the gasket. Who can say for sure? The quality of today's products is exactly adequate. Because I have medical skills, I would purchase a second engine if I needed one. For some people, it would be a return, but not a major problem for me. The engine arrived in good condition and double-boxed. It functions well and is really powerful. For a good deal. rapid shipment

easy to install on a DR walk-behind string trimmer and quick to ship.a few pointers1) These engines are splash lubricated; they should not be used on slopes steeper than 10 degrees.2) Mounting flange holes are smooth bore and require taping to match your particular machine. Save your old bolts to get the proper tap size.3) Double-check your oil level after the first hour of use.4) To ensure a long engine life, change the oil after three hours of use to remove internal metal shavings.5) For an easy start engine, the throttle must be in the proper position; otherwise, the recoil starter is difficult to pull.
