I have a 29.5" metal patio table that is being passed through by a 9-foot patio umbrella with a US Weight 50 Pound Umbrella Base (bought on Amazon - 4 stars). The table's central hole measures 2". No amount of fumbling, adjusting, or centering could keep the umbrella erect at a 90-degree angle. If there was a tiny breeze or movement of the table, the umbrella would sag. The MAYARD, which I ordered, showed up two days later. The diameter of the umbrella is 1.5", just like the MAYARD. I first tried wiping some dish soap from the kitchen on the interior of the cone and the umbrella tube to see if that would help it pass through. discarded that notion and went with a piece of sandpaper instead, which worked out well. I placed a circle of 240-grit sandpaper inside the cone and gently compressed it with my fingers before spinning the cone around the paper. Spins, test fitting of the tube into the cone, and then a few more spins Tube was securely fastened to cone in less than five minutes. If you employ this technique, work in small increments because you can always sand the hole to make it larger but not smaller. The cone was firmly wedged into the hole after a few pushes. The umbrella is still precisely centered after numerous days that have been both highly windy and rainy. I've just had it for a few weeks, but it appears weatherproof.

No issues, however I should have ordered more of these. A true convenience for those who frequent the beach! After using it a few times, I realized that if I had bought TWO and hung them one above the other on the umbrella, small valuables like cameras, car keys, phones (if yours has a "leash" attached to it), and other items could be placed on the lowest attachment while shirts, swimsuit covers, jackets, and/or towels were hung on the highest attachment, completely obscuring the smaller valuables from view when you are in the water. One of the best aspects of this tiny device is that it is placed high on the umbrella post and is completely hidden from view. You would have to go UNDER the umbrella and look up to notice anyone has valuables stored there, and if clothes are hung over the valuables, they would of course be completely hidden!

This is the second umbrella I've purchased recently. My four small dogs enjoy lazing about in the backyard. I use this awning to shield the weather from their dog home. Nothing is better than a gorgeous sunny day, unless of course it is too hot or the sun is directly in your face, in which case you need to use an umbrella to block it. I already owned a gorgeous umbrella that virtually covers the entire deck, and I like it. The winds in Nebraska were the only issue I was encountering. They are awful, and I didn't want to attach the base into the deck wood because it would make it impossible to move them later—it would be too permanent. I had no idea that these portable bases existed, but wow, are they a lifesaver. We practiced filling the 4 plastic bases in the garage because it is still quite windy here; after it stops being so windy in a few weeks, we will wheel barrow them out to the back deck. I was interested in how stiff the plastic was when I first read reviews of this product and wondered how challenging it would be to fit it into my table without breaking it. The need for all the "tricks" to insert this thing absolutely escapes me. The ring can be put in within seconds and is incredibly flexible. The only two things you will need to do are remove the insert cap and clear the table hole of any debris. This is a simple fit for the majority of regular table holes and umbrella poles. Install took less than a minute in total.To prevent your umbrella pole from moving around in the wind, the material is clear and has a nice "grip-like" surface. It is far better than the original table's tougher plastic ring, which was too fragile and fractured.

We required a substantial umbrella base, and it had to be white. After looking at a number of other websites and products, we decided to buy the "US Weight 50 Pound Umbrella Base in White" from Amazon due to the company's free Prime shipping. This product was rated as being by far the best by another website (patio decor ratings) that provided reviews on umbrellas and bases, especially when compared to the self-fill option (which they strongly advised against filling with water), as the self-fill option only came in at around 35 pounds as opposed to the 50 pounds we needed for a large umbrella. My UPS man assured me that this would not be a problem and that they handle up to 150 pounds.While we got there, we borrowed another reviewer's suggestion and bored a hole where the base screw goes into the aluminum umbrella pole to connect the two when tightening the screw to the pole. worked flawlessly. Our 11-foot (later reduced to a smaller 9-foot size) umbrella, which extends through our table, does not sway and has successfully endured multiple windy days. A few little details: the built-in handle makes it much easier to transport, the umbrella pole opening is not susceptible to water accumulation, and simple cleaning with water and mild detergent is sufficient. The thumb screw is difficult to grasp onto, and we had to use pliers to turn it. That would be my only "issue." Due to the 2 inch tabletop hole and some flexibility in the pole as it rose through the 48" round table, we added a patio table cone wedge (bought from Amazon). The cone wedge performed admirably.I must admit that the ratings and reviews on another website convinced us to buy this specific item, and they are accurate. With the filled version base choice, the cost was well worth it! Just so you know, I waited a month to review this umbrella base because I wanted to be sure it worked as promised.04/23/19: I recently came across my review and decided to post an update.
