Soft box lighting has been transformed by this design! No need to struggle to put it together and insert flimsy rods. The cover slides into my flash, opens out, and seals in place. For the past month or so, I've been experimenting with a lighting setup for the 2nerdgirls vlogcast. Two women are talking to the camera in a frontal interview scenario. I aimed to create a professional style that also complemented the skin tone of women. Since we are currently doing this in our living room, I also needed something lightweight and flexible that would be simple to put up. I'm delighted to report that these lights, which cost roughly $60, work well. I finally settled on the desired aesthetic at the desired complexity level.I'll talk about the lights and stands first, and then I'll quickly compare them to some of the other types of lights I bought because I wish I had had this information when I was buying.THESE LUMINARS:Structure: A light bulb socket and the rectangular soft box are both fastened to a plastic light stand mount. It works with any light stand and comes with two lightweight ones.The switch for the standard connection that provides power is conveniently situated close to the top of the softbox.They are wider than they are high. They can move up, down, left, and right, but they can't spin in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.Pros: -Lightweight; -Low power; -Nice SOFT light; -Nice 5500k (about) GIANT SIZED fluorescent bulbs; -Nice SOFT light; soft enough to satisfy my talent; They are easy to move around and set up, and they come with a lovely canvas bag so you can pack them up and take them with you when you travel. They are very close to daylight, which is fantastic because you can couple them nicely with window light.-light production This is a PRO for interviews, but be sure to read the fine print as these might not be strong enough for wider shots and farther away: At about 4 feet from the subject, my light meter reads a 2.8 while I'm shooting at ISO 400 and 24 frames per second. Given that the majority of cameras can operate at an ISO of 800 with ease, you could take shots at F4. I'm attempting to use a Canon 35mm f/1.8 wide-open lens, but I can confirm that this looks fantastic with a 2.8 as well.-For what it's worth, at the same distance, my light meter registered 285 footcandles.-Cheap! Price is a factor that I consider. This review wouldn't be five stars if the items cost $100 or more.Cons: The light supports are flimsy and light, and will definitely break at some point. This isn't a major disadvantage for me because I have a lot of light stands. In reality, it is a positive for me because I needed something portable and light. I simply accept them as they are. If you're using them outdoors in a windy place, I suggest purchasing a few sandbags to weigh them down. There's that. I did knock one over, but nothing was damaged.-These tripods are not extremely high-reaching. possibly 6 feet tall. Excellent for seated positionsThis is NOT a set of expensive professional lights. Although it may seem strange to say it here, I occasionally believe that people want perfection at bargain costs. These are excellent soft illumination. Since the softbox is attached to both the inexpensive plastic light socket and the light stand connection, breaking either one will render the entire setup useless.-because the lightbulbs are so large, you can see hotspots in the middle where they press up on the softening material at the end. I don't care, though, because I thought the lighting was extremely lovely and gentle in any case.-These are interview cameras, so I don't think they'd make the best exterior night lighting for a movie; however, they would make wonderful consistent fill lights for pictures. These might work well if you're shooting a dramatic scenario in a small room with close-ups. Simply be aware of their limitations.ANALYSIS: I began with two kinoflow knockoffs that I purchased on Amazon for roughly $200 each. Essentially, it consists of a box with reflective metallic barn doors and four strip fluorescent lamps within. These units produce the most light, so they might be better for you if you prioritize quantity over quality. However, the light felt very harsh and unpleasant when it was pointed directly at the women. As a side note, the light bulbs in each of the two of these units that I bought had somewhat different temps.I continued to the Diva light ring after that. Women, a bright ring, a gentle frontal light—ideal, I thought. And it was actually quite good. Furthermore, I adore the diva light ring. Even though it costs more—285 dollars—it accomplishes some really cool things. It can move on a stand and has a dim, lovely soft light that is also 5500K. But there was a problem! Glasses. When one of the women turns her head to face the camera, a huge white ring can be seen through her glasses. Another drawback is that they work best for one subject and suffer when used for two.I also have a great LED panel that can change color temperatures and dim, but I've found that it's not as bright and a touch too harsh. However, I adore this light and frequently utilize it as an accent light, bouncing off of walls and other objects behind the subjects. However, I would have to spend more than $400 to replace my primary lights with LED panels that are comparable to these softboxes.I attempted to use lights and umbrellas, which in my opinion are more appropriate for photography. Simply didn't work for me.I ultimately bought these lights and made the more traditional 3 point lighting. I positioned the diva light ring as a kicker light above and behind the subjects, adding some light to their hair. I also positioned both of these soft boxes at 45-degree angles to the subjects. Although the girl is not looking directly at the camera, you can still see these lights reflected in her spectacles as she turns her head. Additionally, for some reason, seeing white squares is more forgiving than seeing a huge, peculiar donut made of white. I solely use the phony kinoflos pointing at the ceiling for general lighting in the space. I'm trying to figure out how to eliminate them and more easily produce ambient light.As with anything else, you must be aware of your needs. These, in my opinion, are excellent for vlogging or conducting interviews while on the road. especially if you want to achieve that feminine, delicate look. On the diva light ring, I really give them the advantage since I think the light is prettier.The other thing is to purchase these if you're like me and are seeking to learn new stuff. They are inexpensive, so even if they don't work for you, you didn't spend a lot of money. You just saved a ton of money, though, assuming they do end up working for you. These will always make excellent backups even as your kit grows and you acquire extra lights.PRO HINTS: In order to correctly attach the white soft material bags to the softbox, you must turn the sides inside out when you unzip the bags. It may be obvious, but it took me a while to discover this. Tennis balls have been scored and attached to the bottoms of all of my stands, as can be seen if you look at my photo. When shooting on location in people's homes for TV, we use a classic grip technique to prevent scratching the floor. So order the cheapest tennis ball set you can find on Amazon!

I don't have a lot to compare these to because I'm still relatively new to portrait shooting. These lights have been fantastic for a novice because they are easy to set up and use. Since these lights are inexpensive, I found that continuous lighting was easier to use in the beginning than flash (I also didn't want to subject young children to excessive flash). Everything, including the stands, light frame, light covers, and lightbulbs in their boxes, fits perfectly inside the container. The case doesn't appear to be particularly robust. The zipper is mostly what seems a touch flimsy, but I take care to zip it carefully and avoid attempting to force it. These may reach fairly high because to the shaft's numerous height-adjustable points. If you want to make these tall, I would acquire some sandbag weights to drape over the base to prevent children or pets from knocking it over. Even though I'm still experimenting with light placement and angles, I've used these lights to create some great portraits, which is amazing given that I'm still learning.

It's difficult to keep up with all the different kits that come with various products.This is a review of the Neewer Studio Support System, which includes a carrying case, three backdrops with clips, two umbrella lights, two soft-box lights, and two umbrella lights.First of all, despite the inferior quality of the supplied goods, the kit's comprehensiveness was amazing. Setting up and starting to use it was simple. Although there are blatant quality problems, you get what you paid for.Before purchasing, keep the following in mind (without making any comparisons to other systems, as I possess no other equipment of this kind):> The support system's thin posts telescope, making the top ones incredibly thin. It is unable to sustain the backdrops at its maximum height without sagging or leaning. The cross member is made up of four interlocking poles, each of which is too broad for the backdrops to "reach" the sides, rendering the clips all but useless. As a result, the backdrops are the "wrong" size for the support system. To utilize when I require the entire size of the support system, I purchased a larger backdrop. flickering or failing lights (two bulbs won't last more than a few seconds on). I wasn't sure if the problem was with the sockets or the bulb. I believe it to be both, regrettably. I suggest purchasing a couple extras. Umbrellas are generally ineffectual; keep in mind that they act more as diffusers than as reflectors. Since there is no silver inside, it is nearly impossible to direct any light.I'll be retaining this kit (primarily because I'm taking it with me to a client shoot), but after using the gear a bit more, I think it might be wise to spend a little extra money on each individual item from a better brand (LimoStudio, Neewer, and Cowboy are all pretty cheap). Having said that, I'm still a beginner, and having even this basic equipment is great—not to mention how affordable it is.I'd recommend the following additions to improve the quality of this kit:Though excellent, the Softbox lights are too faint. A light socket adapter (LimoStudio 4 Socket Adapter 4 in 1 Adapter) might be something to think about. The umbrellas could be finer, but the umbrella stands are good. AGG127, LimoStudio 2 x 33" Double Layer Black/Silver Photo Studio Reflector Umbrella, is a highly reflective option that you might want to take into consideration. The plastic clips that come with this kit are too small (for the most part). Better clips (such as these: Linco 4216 Muslin Backdrop Holder (8 Holders), Supports up to 9x9' Background) are something I'd think about using.

For the price tag of about $70, these items are absolutely excellent. I received 3 of the soft boxes, 4 lights, 2 straight supports, 1 boom stand, and a bag to store everything. Although the stands are incredibly light and flimsy, they carry these soft boxes just fine and setup was simple. The boom stand should have a sand bag at the base, but the straight stands don't actually need any additional sand bags to keep them in place. Although the boom itself is thin and even appears to be bowing slightly, I wasn't expecting incredibly sturdy stands for the price. It completes the task and comes with the bags needed to attach a counterweight to the boom arm (no weight included, but get some sand from the local hardware store and put it in zip lock bags first before putting those bags into the nylon counter weight bags).My one and only serious complaint is that the soft box on/off button is located up high, close to the soft box's connection to the light. Therefore, it will be difficult to use them to turn these on and off if you mount them high. However, you could just connect them to a power strip and use the on/off switch to simultaneously turn them all on and off (which is what I did). I won't take away a star from the separate power switches because doing that for a master switch is so practical.Bulbs all came in boxes with form-fitting styrofoam around them, so it didn't feel like there was any risk of them breaking, and they all operate perfectly. The color is lovely, though I would personally prefer to add a little yellow light to the scene using an LED light with a wide color spectrum, but that's just me. Setting up the light boxes themselves wasn't that difficult. When you move a ring around the area where the light bulb will be screwed in (don't put the bulb in first), the "box," which resembles a four-armed umbrella, opens up. The first one takes some practice, but the other two are simple to set up. Simply fastened with velcro, the diffuser cloth can also be removed if you choose.As I currently have them set up and never take them down, I'm unsure of how well they will stand up under continual erecting and removing for a mobile rig. Although they are somewhat flimsy—as I already mentioned—they do a great job of casting light, and they were a great deal.

For the price tag of about $70, these items are absolutely excellent. I received 3 of the soft boxes, 4 lights, 2 straight supports, 1 boom stand, and a bag to store everything. Although the stands are incredibly light and flimsy, they carry these soft boxes just fine and setup was simple. The boom stand should have a sand bag at the base, but the straight stands don't actually need any additional sand bags to keep them in place. Although the boom itself is thin and even appears to be bowing slightly, I wasn't expecting incredibly sturdy stands for the price. It completes the task and comes with the bags needed to attach a counterweight to the boom arm (no weight included, but get some sand from the local hardware store and put it in zip lock bags first before putting those bags into the nylon counter weight bags).My one and only serious complaint is that the soft box on/off button is located up high, close to the soft box's connection to the light. Therefore, it will be difficult to use them to turn these on and off if you mount them high. However, you could just connect them to a power strip and use the on/off switch to simultaneously turn them all on and off (which is what I did). I won't take away a star from the separate power switches because doing that for a master switch is so practical.Bulbs all came in boxes with form-fitting styrofoam around them, so it didn't feel like there was any risk of them breaking, and they all operate perfectly. The color is lovely, though I would personally prefer to add a little yellow light to the scene using an LED light with a wide color spectrum, but that's just me. Setting up the light boxes themselves wasn't that difficult. When you move a ring around the area where the light bulb will be screwed in (don't put the bulb in first), the "box," which resembles a four-armed umbrella, opens up. The first one takes some practice, but the other two are simple to set up. Simply fastened with velcro, the diffuser cloth can also be removed if you choose.As I currently have them set up and never take them down, I'm unsure of how well they will stand up under continual erecting and removing for a mobile rig. Although they are somewhat flimsy—as I already mentioned—they do a great job of casting light, and they were a great deal.
