Eggshells are a good source of calcium for plants and can help to improve the structure of your compost. To get the most benefit from eggshells, crush them up into small pieces before adding them to your compost bin. You can also add eggshells to your worm bin as a source of calcium for your worms.
If you're looking for a way to compost your kitchen scraps without attracting pests or having to go outside, an indoor compost bin may be a good option for you. While there are several different types and styles of indoor composters available, they all essentially work the same way. Indoor compost bins typically have a lid to keep out pests and a filter to control odors. Some models also come with a built-in aeration system to help speed up the composting process. The biggest advantage of using an indoor compost bin is that it's much more convenient than outdoor
You can absolutely have a compost bin indoors! There are many ways to do this, including using a small kitchen bin or even a repurposed plastic container. The key is to make sure that your bin has drainage holes and is covered to keep fruit flies and other pests out. Additionally, you will need to stir your compost regularly and add a mix of green and brown materials to keep it healthy.
Yes, you can put banana peels in compost. Banana peels are high in potassium and nitrogen, which are both nutrients that plants need. They also break down quickly, so they won't add too much bulk to your compost.

Although I don't often write reviews, I was impressed by the careful planning that went into the creation of these charcoal filters. The filters I had previously used as well as the ones that were included with my composter bins, buckets, pails, or whatever else they came with, were all incredibly thin and the wrong size for the lids. However, unlike the ones I've previously used, these filters are thick and fit snugly in the lids I have (see photos). I particularly appreciate the square filter because, after installation, it curves up within the lid to block the "entry" into the lid. Unlike in my prior experiences, this makes me feel much more at peace that I'll be able to address fruit fly concerns before they get out of hand (fruit flies are abundant where I live.) Clever!

Because that is how Amazon evaluations operate, I am giving this compost bin five stars because I have absolutely no complaints about it.Nevertheless, based on a few reviews I'm now reading, I'm speculating that the main reason I'm happy with this bin (apart from the fact that it fulfills its stated role flawlessly) is that I genuinely comprehend what a compost bin is and what composting entails. If you are new to this, consider the following advice:1. In essence, a compost bin is merely a pot with a lid on it. Please just buy a pot instead of ordering this item and then being shocked to receive what is essentially just a pot with a lid in the mail (despite the numerous images on this page clearly demonstrating what is essentially just a pot with a lid), which will save you the trouble of leaving a really stupid review on Amazon blaming the product for the fact that you weren't aware what a compost bin was.2. Composting is the process of keeping food wastes that would ordinarily be thrown away in a bucket (or a pot with a lid) in your kitchen. Because of this, it will "become dirty," just like the other kitchenware that comes into touch with food. Like with everything else in your kitchen, you'll frequently need to "wipe it down" to get rid of the residue from whatever you put in it. Do not be misled into believing that this product can magically self-clean simply because it is referred to as a "compost bin." Just keep in mind that this is just a saucepan with a lid on it.3. Food scraps have a tendency to decompose over time. Over the course of a few days, they even start to degrade a little. "Rotting" is another word for this decomposition process. We compost them because of this. Your compost will begin to smell if you keep it out on your counter for more than a week at a time. Do not blame the bin; instead, get off your lazy ass and empty it. If your trash can was filled with rotting food, would you keep it for a week? NO. A receptacle that can accommodate a week's worth of scraps isn't ideal, to be completely honest. Not all compost-related ills can be cured by a compost bin. Maybe composting isn't for you if you don't want your food scraps to smell on your countertop and you don't want to trek all the way to your compost bin more than once a week. Which is great; just remember not to post a three-star rating on Amazon after realizing that.-I'm done snarking now. What I enjoy about this bin is as follows:I've had little to no trouble with fruit flies, probably because I've been careful to only remove the lid when I am putting things in the bin. It cleans up easily. It is sturdy and unbreakable. It has a carrying handle, unlike your average pot with a lid on it. It is well-proportioned. It is tall enough to hold a good amount of stuff without having a huge footprint on the countertop.Basically, if you don't have absurd, ignorant, and contradictory assumptions regarding how it will operate, it performs everything a compost bin should do.

Set of 3 Round Filters: 7.25" diameter

Any kitchen compost container needs to have these. The odour is effectively blocked off. They fit well in my kitchen bin, remain put in the lid, and last a very long time. You might question how long that is, and I'll reply that you can tell by the smell. However, all is not lost because you may just cleanse the filter to extend its lifespan. However, I must warn against using hot water because doing so made my filter smaller. (I had to get this new one because of this.) Simply rinse the filter in some warm, soapy water to remove any remaining odors, and then rinse the soap out with warm water. I haven't been able to test the filter because I shrunk it, so I really don't know how much life it can hold. The three filters in a package were delivered in two days. Amazing customer assistance from Amazon. Why is government efficiency so lacking?

When my other half saw it, he wasn't pleased. To keep out all scents, we have been utilizing a sizable plastic bowl with a lid that snapped shut in four different locations. I had looked for something that would fit in a cabinet rather than on the counter for two years! When we first saw the design, we were both dubious and doubtful that it would effectively block odor. It occupies a very small space under the cabinet housing my kitchen sink. I was immediately pleased by this.We consume a lot of fresh fruits, veggies, and bananas; we prepare our own fresh salad; and we are heavy composters. Every scrap goes into this composter. We have a lot of plants and use our compost; I brew cold coffee, using half a pound of grinds every week and numerous tea bags. Although it holds less than the bowl did, we still carry this container outside to the compost bin three to four times per week. Our warm climate means that this is not a problem. The fact that, unexpectedly, we have never once smelled any scents at all with the lid closed seals the deal on this device. Additionally, none of our friends have ever asked, "Oh, what's in here?" after picking up a clear container off our counter top, so no more awkward justifications for why we stored trash in a bowl on top of our counter!

Since we recently began a garden and my kid is studying compost in school, we have been composting. The kitchen scraps have been kept in a bucket (similar to a beach bucket), which obviously doesn't look nice on the counter. If we left it for too long, it also smelled strongly. The answer is right here; this attractive bucket has filters that let air in while keeping the stench outside the room. Additionally, it is labeled in case visitors need to find sugar. I'm thankful for this purchase because it was one of those things you could only find on Amazon. Highly advised.

We recently began composting in our backyard, so we needed a container to hold kitchen scraps. After doing some web research, I decided on this set. It's ideal! The best aspect, though, is that IT DOESN'T SMELL!We have been utilizing for the past two to three months, and it is all I was hoping for. It's simple to use, clean, and doesn't look ugly on my counter.

This was given to me fourteen days ago, and I used it right away. I was curious as to how long it would take to totally fill it and for it to start to smell.I've now fully utilized it for 14 days (I only cook for one, so there aren't as many scraps), and the only time I smell anything coming from it is when I open it to add new food. Since it is positioned on the same counter as where I prepare my meals, if there was an odor, I would have noticed it by now.To anyone I knew who was seeking for a kitchen compost bin, I would heartily recommend it because I am fully delighted with it. The next time, I probably won't wait another 14 days before emptying it, but if I must wait longer than the 3–4 days that the majority of reviews suggest, I'll take the absence of scent!

These activated charcoal filters are fantastic, in my opinion! Despite the fact that my compost is unsightly on the inside, no smell enters the kitchen thanks to the filter. Clear directions are provided for cleaning the filter and sizing it (simple!). Composting-related information is also provided by the seller. Additionally, each one lasts for six months, giving me peace for two years.

I believe some of the reviewers who gave the product one rating had good points but were too harsh. This item may be a touch overpriced because the plastic seems to be a lower quality material that may be more likely to shatter with improper handling. If your cabinet hardware is weak or inexpensive, it might not be able to support the bucket when it is full or open. But mine works just fine.It includes hardware. I quickly screwed it on after drilling a few tiny pilot holes. The bag anchors that keep the bag upright and in position are good. They are sharp but face the cabinet, so one must be careful when dropping compost to avoid getting cut. I like how the top completely closes to retain the scents and keep fruit flies out. I'll never quite comprehend the purpose of the holes on tabletop compost bins. Locking top is a compromise. Although opening it is a little awkward, I'm getting used to it. I'm unsure of how I could make it better right now.To master opening the top while it hangs on the door, there is a learning curve on the user's end. At first, I was terrible at it, but after a few tries, I figured out how to do it properly. It could be problematic if you're clumsy or have neuromuscular conditions. The hook should be inserted a little further into the bin's clip. I open the lid by providing a small amount of downward pressure with my thumbs and pulling back the handle with either my index or middle finger. It reads "hang properly" this way.I also bought the dispenser, which is a lot more practical than our old approach for storing and getting to the bags.In general, I'm pleased with it.

I wanted a little compost scrap bin that could sit on the kitchen counter next to my sink and be just the right size so that I wouldn't have to run out and empty it every time I was slicing vegetables. It is almost the same size as a gallon milk jug, but much cuter. It is simple and convenient to go dump in the outdoor compost with the pull-out container, and I haven't had any instances when it smelled. Even with onion trimmings, I don't smell anything when the lid is closed, so the air filter must be doing its job very well. At the moment, I probably dump it every three days or when it fills up. When I first took it out of the box, it did have a few minor scratches, which was upsetting but not enough for me to send it back. It is overall pretty adorable, obvious what it is, and a wonderful size.
Electric composters use very little electricity. In fact, most models use less than 1 kilowatt of power, which is about the same amount as a standard light bulb.
No, indoor compost bins do not smell. This is because the process of decomposition is anaerobic, meaning that it does not require oxygen. The lack of oxygen prevents the growth of bacteria, which is what causes the bad smell in garbage cans.
You can compost without worms, but they definitely speed up the process. Worms consume organic matter and turn it into nutrient-rich compost. They also help aerate the compost, which is important for the decomposition process. If you're interested in composting with worms, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you'll need to create a worm bin. This can be as simple as a plastic storage container with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. You'll also need to add bedding material, such as shredded newspaper, to the bin. Once you've added
A kitchen compost bin does not need air holes. The microorganisms that break down the organic matter in the bin need oxygen, but they get that from the organic matter itself. If there are air holes in the bin, they will allow fruit flies and other pests to get in.
Composting is the process of decaying organic matter, such as food scraps and leaves, into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. While composting does not typically attract bugs, there are a few exceptions. Flies are attracted to the smell of rotting food and may lay their eggs in the compost. If the compost is too wet, it can also attract gnats.
No, Lomi does not use a lot of electricity.
