Although I don't often write reviews, I was impressed by the careful planning that went into the creation of these charcoal filters. The filters I had previously used as well as the ones that were included with my composter bins, buckets, pails, or whatever else they came with, were all incredibly thin and the wrong size for the lids. However, unlike the ones I've previously used, these filters are thick and fit snugly in the lids I have (see photos). I particularly appreciate the square filter because, after installation, it curves up within the lid to block the "entry" into the lid. Unlike in my prior experiences, this makes me feel much more at peace that I'll be able to address fruit fly concerns before they get out of hand (fruit flies are abundant where I live.) Clever!

Any kitchen compost container needs to have these. The odour is effectively blocked off. They fit well in my kitchen bin, remain put in the lid, and last a very long time. You might question how long that is, and I'll reply that you can tell by the smell. However, all is not lost because you may just cleanse the filter to extend its lifespan. However, I must warn against using hot water because doing so made my filter smaller. (I had to get this new one because of this.) Simply rinse the filter in some warm, soapy water to remove any remaining odors, and then rinse the soap out with warm water. I haven't been able to test the filter because I shrunk it, so I really don't know how much life it can hold.The three filters in a package were delivered in two days. Amazing customer assistance from Amazon. Why is government efficiency so lacking?

When my other half saw it, he wasn't pleased. To keep out all scents, we have been utilizing a sizable plastic bowl with a lid that snapped shut in four different locations. I had looked for something that would fit in a cabinet rather than on the counter for two years! When we first saw the design, we were both dubious and doubtful that it would effectively block odor. It occupies a very small space under the cabinet housing my kitchen sink. I was immediately pleased by this.We consume a lot of fresh fruits, veggies, and bananas; we prepare our own fresh salad; and we are heavy composters. Every scrap goes into this composter. We have a lot of plants and use our compost; I brew cold coffee, using half a pound of grinds every week and numerous tea bags. Although it holds less than the bowl did, we still carry this container outside to the compost bin three to four times per week. Our warm climate means that this is not a problem. The fact that, unexpectedly, we have never once smelled any scents at all with the lid closed seals the deal on this device. Additionally, none of our friends have ever asked, "Oh, what's in here?" after picking up a clear container off our counter top, so no more awkward justifications for why we stored trash in a bowl on top of our counter!

Since we recently began a garden and my kid is studying compost in school, we have been composting. I believe some of the reviewers who gave the product one rating had good points but were too harsh. This item may be a touch overpriced because the plastic seems to be a lower quality material that may be more likely to shatter with improper handling. If your cabinet hardware is weak or inexpensive, it might not be able to support the bucket when it is full or open. But mine works just fine.It includes hardware. I quickly screwed it on after drilling a few tiny pilot holes. The bag anchors that keep the bag upright and in position are good. They are sharp but face the cabinet, so one must be careful when dropping compost to avoid getting cut. I like how the top completely closes to retain the scents and keep fruit flies out. I'll never quite comprehend the purpose of the holes on tabletop compost bins. Locking top is a compromise. Although opening it is a little awkward, I'm getting used to it. I'm unsure of how I could make it better right now.To master opening the top while it hangs on the door, there is a learning curve on the user's end. At first, I was terrible at it, but after a few tries, I figured out how to do it properly. It could be problematic if you're clumsy or have neuromuscular conditions. The hook should be inserted a little further into the bin's clip. I open the lid by providing a small amount of downward pressure with my thumbs and pulling back the handle with either my index or middle finger. It reads "hang properly" this way.I also bought the dispenser, which is a lot more practical than our old approach for storing and getting to the bags.In general, I'm pleased with it.

I wanted a little compost scrap bin that could sit on the kitchen counter next to my sink and be just the right size so that I wouldn't have to run out and empty it every time I was slicing vegetables. It is almost the same size as a gallon milk jug, but much cuter. It is simple and convenient to go dump in the outdoor compost with the pull-out container, and I haven't had any instances when it smelled. Even with onion trimmings, I don't smell anything when the lid is closed, so the air filter must be doing its job very well. At the moment, I probably dump it every three days or when it fills up. When I first took it out of the box, it did have a few minor scratches, which was upsetting but not enough for me to send it back. It is overall pretty adorable, obvious what it is, and a wonderful size.
