Chimney caps are a great idea for keeping your chimney clean and free of debris. They also help to prevent animals from getting into your chimney and nesting there.
Chimney caps are available in a range of sizes to fit most chimneys. However, it's important to select the right size cap for your chimney, as a too-small cap can be blown off in high winds, and a too-large cap can block the flow of air and cause smoking problems.
You can absolutely install a chimney cap yourself, but there are a few things you should know before doing so. First, take measurements of your chimney opening to ensure you purchase the correct size cap. Second, gather the necessary tools including a drill, screwdriver, hammer, and level. Finally, follow the instructions that come with your chimney cap kit carefully. With a little time and effort, you can have your new chimney cap installed and enjoy peace of mind knowing your chimney is properly protected.
You can cap a chimney with concrete, but it is not recommended. Concrete is not as durable as other materials and can crack over time.

I consider aging to be quite expensive. We had to hire a service to do what we knew was an inadequate job, pretending to do it from the bottom up until I made them do it correctly because, among other things, I am not allowed to climb ladders and don't have enough balance to venture up to the roof to clean the chimney from our wood burner as I have done for many decades. When given the request for a price on a cap to replace the one that had blown off, they produced one that was identical to this one and gave us a quotation of $150 for installing it while they were there. This one costs $100 less and, according to my son who installed it for free, almost didn't require the screws to hold it securely in place. It also fits precisely.

This product is fantastic. Up until I considered how this contraption may function, I believed I needed a brush. Our cottage's chimney had been used every spring and fall for over four years without being cleaned. I didn't want to get on the roof because it is almost 20 feet from the stove to the chimney cap and the roof is steep. I discovered a flaky buildup of creosote that was ready for a fire when I opened the pipe approximately 6 feet above the stove. The 17 feet it took me to get to the chimney cap on the roof from where I disassembled the pipe made the 18 feet of rods ideal. I created an adaptor on the end of the pipe using a 2 gallon plastic jug and taped it to the pipe. I could hear the particles dropping and entering the vacuum as I ran the rotating whip in the pipe. There was some leakage around the rod, but it was contained by the sheet on the floor. Everything went really smoothly, and when we were finished, the pipe was spotless. I cleaned the bottom pipe outside and snapped a few before and after photos. After the cleaning, I also shot a picture ascending the 17-foot pipe. However, I would want to add an additional caution. My wife found some black dust on the tables and carpet after everything had been put back together. Evidently, the vacuum's filter was too coarse to capture all of the extremely tiny soot, which is why it was everywhere. This is not the device's fault, and the next time I will move the vacuum outside and attach a longer hose to it. I never had to climb atop the roof, and the pipe is spotless from top to bottom. This product is fantastic, and I wish I had created it myself. Only that more rods be made available in case the pipe is longer than 18 feet is all I ask of the maker.

This has been my winter routine for a few years, and it has been successful. It has at least halved the amount of wood I need. There are certain drawbacks to it. First off, the fan was rather noisy when it first left the manufacturer. The noise from the fan makes it difficult to hear the television when my woodstove is on in the living room. This wouldn't be a problem in a garage or shop, in my opinion. Creosote accumulation is the second. With hot enough fires, a thin layer of creosote will burn off in stovepipes; this is normal and typically goes unnoticed. Because Magic Heat is so effective at recovering heat, it can halt this process, which can result in a dangerously high creosote buildup. In order to fix this, I burn really hot fires and clean my stovepipe more frequently. Third, if the cleaning knob is not used consistently, it may become stuck, necessitating disassembly and messy cleaning. This is especially true for burning pine and smoldering slow fires. This becomes considerably less of an issue with hot, intense fires.I used this brushless speed controller to solve the noise issue. https://www.amazon.com/Model-KBNH-13BV-Control-Shaded-Motors/dp/B07B4MNF84It required drilling a hole at the rear but fit nicely inside the wiring box.advantages: 1/3 less wood!Loud Creosote accumulation is a drawback.Always keep your tubes clean. This may be a good option if you love your ancient woodstove and don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a newer, more efficient unit.

Be careful; measuring could be difficult. However, I figured a 6" cover will fit because I cleaned my chimney with a 6" brush. I discovered I was mistaken once I was on the roof. The ring that will encircle your metalbestos chimney has an 8-inch diameter ". That wasn't big enough for my 10" shoes "! Compared to the previous design, which screwed the legs into the chimney, this one is preferable. The new one has a ring that fits snugly around the legs to keep it in position. For the previous one, I had used three hose clamps screwed together to create a larger one in a similar design.

It is kept on the stove by a powerful magnet. We have enjoyed using it daily throughout the winter months. As far as we can determine, it is accurate and simple to read from across the room.Buy the right model; there are two types: one is for the stove pipe and one is for the stove. Since our pipe is insulated, the stove required one as well.

We are elderly and reside in the mountains. have been cleaning our chimney by climbing a ladder and across the roof for the past 25 winters. I warned my husband that he shouldn't continue to cross an icy roof once he could no longer see his feet due to his large belly. Haha! We made the decision to try it after seeing it in a YouTube video. Unbelievable outcomes! It works really well even when you run it manually up and down the stove and up and down the flue instead of using your drill. Although a battery-powered drill is advised, we used our electric one instead, doing short, gentle spurts. After that, we examined the pipe in a hand mirror. as tidy as a whistle! No longer do our children have to be concerned about their eccentric old parents dying in a snowdrift after falling from the roof! STRONGLY recommended!

We have used blankets in front of our fireplace for the previous few years, and then we switched to the clear plastic film that you put on windows to stop the draft. However, both of those solutions were unsightly. I had considered buying these chimney plugs for a while, but the cost seemed excessive. This year, we updated our living room, and the new floor prevented us from installing the plastic since we didn't want the blankets or plastic to be put back there. I finally gave in and purchased one of them. The draft vanished almost immediately after I made sure it was securely positioned in the chimney. We didn't experience any chilly drafts through the living room the entire winter. The plug is unnoticeable and simple to take out and put back in.We are very pleased with our purchase, and I heartily endorse it to anyone looking for a plastic- or blanket-free way to block fireplace drafts.
If you have a wood-burning fireplace, you need a chimney cap to keep sparks and embers from landing on your roof and starting a fire. If you have a gas fireplace, you need a chimney cap to keep rain and snow from getting into your chimney and causing corrosion.
While it is true that metal objects are more likely to attract lightning than non-metal objects, there is no evidence that stainless steel chimney caps are more likely to be struck by lightning than any other type of object. In fact, the vast majority of lightning strikes occur on objects that are not made of metal, such as trees, buildings, and power lines.
Rain does go down a chimney, but not always in the way you might think. While rain does fall down the chimney, it doesn't always make it to the bottom. Instead, the rain may get caught in the flue and cause a leak. If this happens, you'll need to have the chimney repaired.
One of the most popular ways to block out a fireplace is to use a piece of furniture. This could be a sofa, a chair, or even a coffee table. You can also use a screen to block out the fireplace.
If your old fireplace is starting to show its age, you may be thinking about capping it off. Capping off a fireplace is a great way to give it a fresh, new look without having to do a complete renovation. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you're thinking about capping off your old fireplace: 1. The first step is to remove any old, cracked, or chipped bricks from the fireplace. This will help create a clean, smooth surface for the new cap to be applied to. 2. Once the bricks have been removed
Chimney crowns are an important part of a chimney, as they help to protect the structure from water damage. However, they don't last forever and will eventually need to be replaced. Depending on the materials used, a chimney crown can last anywhere from 20 to 50 years.
