I was worried that my 22-year-old SubZero Model 550 refrigerator was about to fail when the icemaker suddenly stopped working after shorting out its dedicated circuit breaker. But no, and I sincerely hope I'm not jinxing myself here, everything else continues to function normally. Therefore, I spent a few dollars on these excellent ice trays rather than spending $10,000 to replace it (which I would never do), $3,000 to buy a good knock-off (which I also didn't want to do), or $800 to replace the icemaker and a few other cosmetic parts (as estimated by an authorized repair technician). Seriously outstanding The cubes are excellent in size, superior to any automatic icemaker's output, manufactured with Poland Springs from my kitchen water cooler rather of the disgusting town water that runs through the fridge filter, and #3 melt more slowly in my drinks. I had enough room for all four of these, stacked two by two, with the freezer on the bottom. The cubes pop out with just a simple twist, leaving no residue, plastic odor, BPA safety issues, or any lingering aftertaste from other foods. It's also incredibly simple to store the cubes and make more, keeping the container full to my heart's desire because I still have the ice container in the freezer. I recently moved into a brand-new townhouse without an ice maker in the refrigerator. I had to think of a way to have ice cubes on hand. I experimented with a few various methods and was shocked to discover that using these tried-and-true ice cube trays was the best course of action.Having issue with the ice cubes easily popping out of a couple store-bought models made of silicone or a thin rubber, These plastic trays were something I recalled using as a child in my parents' house many years ago. I did a little searching to see if there was anything similar, and sure enough, Amazon had them. Without thinking twice, I placed my order, hoping they would function as easily and efficiently as I had recalled.I piled them in the freezer after filling them with purified water. These trays stack quite readily because they are made for it, which is convenient. The cubes were easy to remove from the tray with only a slight twist and a quick pour into the plastic bin that I had also ordered. This was as simple as I recalled and far simpler than many of the more modern ice cube trays I purchased from the neighborhood shop, where I occasionally had to pry the cubes out. I couldn't believe that the traditional ice cube method was the simplest. To be honest, I'm not sure how they've been able to advance ice cube technology so little over the years. Something that easy shouldn't be challenging, in my opinion.The bottom line is that if your fridge doesn't have an ice cube machine, acquire these trays to avoid annoyance and mess with the other ones. These are still flawlessly functional now as they were 40 years ago. They are outdated, but occasionally that is better.The highest endorsement.

I just started drinking single malt Scotch from The Macallan. I was browsing their website for products when I came across an ice sphere press and knew I had to have one. The price tag is the issue. I was hesitant to make this buy after reading several reviews, but I reasoned that they were inexpensive enough that the risk was small. In the end, I am content with the outcome and have no regrets.I have not yet noticed any of the odours that other people have described, but I did notice a residue on the water's surface. I completely hand washed the trays as soon as I received them after reading other people's reviews. I became aware of the buildup on the water's surface after the initial cleaning. The water was then added to the trays, which were then permitted to stand at room temperature for around 30 minutes. After draining the water, a whitish residue was left behind. The residue was removed using a paper towel. Since then, despite the trays being replenished nearly every day for the past month, I have not noticed any residue in the trays or on the water's surface. A Zero water pitcher is used to fill the trays with water.

Since they are Ice Cube Moulds, I didn't anticipate having much to say about them.As usual with Amazon Prime, they arrived quickly and in good condition. I was pleasantly surprised to see how thick the silicone is when I first opened the box. Compared to what I spent, the quality feels more expensive. Although the listing claims a 2" cube, the cubed tray was deeper than I had anticipated, and I was still in awe of its impressiveness. You get the little satisfaction of serving a drink of the same caliber as one from an upscale wine bar when you put one of those cubes into a glass, add some of your preferred spirit on top, and then hand it to a friend. The eye provides the initial flavor.Again, I wasn't expecting too much with the sphere mould. But once more, I was mistaken! The caliber is present! they feel wonderful. You can tell that the mold has become one piece because the top section fits snuggly into the bottom half. You slowly pour water into the spheres through the top-most hole until they are completely filled. I had a small spillage settle on the top of the mold, but it is simple to pour off the excess without losing any water from the spheres themselves, which is wonderful... I was impressed.It did take longer for the ice cubes or spheres to develop because of the thickness of these moulds, but that is a tiny price to pay and nothing a little more preparation time couldn't fix. Simply peel back the silicone mold to release the ice cubes, and it couldn't be any simpler to remove them. We've all experienced this: bashing an ice cube tray against the kitchen counter only to get one meager cube in return.Excellent product; I heartily endorse... especially if you're having people over for supper.

I limited my options to a set that produced 12 cubes or spheres at a time, some ice death stars, and some ice skulls. The most accurate and thorough product description and images were found on Skulls. I'm speechless at how awesome they really are. Despite careful washing, the first batch still had a silicone flavor; the second batch had no flavor at all—just ice. Prior to the second cycle, I ran a second wash. It can be a bit challenging to get the two parts to lock together, but since the bottom and top molds, respectively, represent the front and rear of the skull, you'll always get a flawless face, or you can manufacture only the faces if you want.I'm not sure if I would have been prepared to shell out the cash for a 12-skull version, but now that I'm generating 4 skulls at once, I'm likely to purchase at least one more. The freeze cycle is so lengthy that if I perform one in the morning and one in the evening, I will realistically be limited to two cycles every day. At eight ice skulls per day between two people in Arizona, I don't think I'll be able to accumulate much of a stockpile. To achieve three or more freeze cycles, I would have to reorganize my day, and I'm not about to do that.You don't have to worry about spilling between the sink and freezer or bumping them before they are frozen because the fill time is roughly the same as with regular ice trays.

Ice balls can be created if everything is put together with extreme care. It's difficult to get them filled. The only way to fill them is to also fill the top of the mold, thus I wish there was a drain on the mold cover.In a bourbon, the mold line (horizontal) typically melts off quite rapidly. Getting rid of ice balls? Fuggedaboutit. The engineering difficulty might be to create an environment where the ice freezes from bottom to top and there is a lot more ice/water on top of the ice ball so that the ice ball would freeze more slowly and drive the air and other impurities out of the top of the ice ball. I believe that most frequently produces ice balls that are mostly clear (compared to current offering). The majority of your pitches would be nice and clear, even if you ended up throwing a lot of "scrap" ice.

I was hesitant to buy another ice silicone cube mold because my girlfriend's previous one shattered, but then I saw this one. Since this mold is flexible, you can bend it like the old-school ice cube trays without breaking it, unlike the ice cube tray I damaged, which only had a silicone base. These trays were bought for our holiday house. They have only maybe been used for 8 weeks while spending the rest of the time in the freezer. Simply from gripping the trays while attempting to pop the cubes using the soft silicone bases, two of the four trays I bought are damaged.
