I've used snake hooks for more than 40 years. Over the years, I've used a variety of brands (along with a few homemade variations), and I think I now understand what constitutes a top-notch snake hook. Dr. Seward's 43" field version strikes the ideal balance between weight and strength. A unique Te-Copper ferrule, which strengthens the bond and keeps the hook from twisting in the shaft, is used to permanently wed the stainless steel hook to the shaft. The shaft is a strong, smoothly tapered steel extrusion that is more durable than epoxy-based composites and stronger than aluminum (that degrade in sunlight over time.)The improved "rubberized" handle material, which offers a non-slip grip without any of the soft open cell foam that some other hooks employ, is another feature I enjoy. I purchased it because my cat like bringing snakes inside using the doggy door. He doesn't care if it's alive or dead. Furthermore, it appears that the more I shout, the better he perceives his work to be, and the more he does. This year, there are a lot of snakes in our region, and I'm tired of using a broom and a shoe box to catch live snakes. When you're trying to free your cat from the snake at two in the morning after waking from a dead sleep, it's difficult to determine whether the snake is dangerous or not. I appreciate that this puts a significant amount of space between me and the snake. It looks to hold a respectable amount of weight and, more importantly, holds it securely, but I haven't used it on a snake yet. Although I can't say I'm eagerly awaiting the next snake, I am prepared for it!11/17/17 Update: First - I apologize for not having noticed the question on the amount of grip strength needed for this, however getting objects into tight spaces doesn't call for any more strength than the typical "grabber" that has been in use for years. In case there are any more questions, it is simple to utilize. Despite having hands with arthritis, I had no issues!More times than I care to count, I have utilized this in the role for which it was intended. It has never let me down. Multiple species of king snakes, ranging in length from two feet to six feet, have been moved by me. Because the frog was screaming and I couldn't tolerate the sound (yes, frogs can screech in fear), I saved it from a large chicken snake. It makes a horrible noise. With this, I was able to remove a giant and extremely fat Copperhead from my yard. Thankfully, the Copperhead was not relocated thanks to my kitties. Additionally, a five to six foot Timber Rattler and a Western Pygmy Rattlesnake that is around three feet long were not transferred! Lol. The point is that this device can manage a wide range of sizes and keep you away from the snake's head. My husband pointed out that it does have a locking feature that maintains the tension on the handle and keeps the jaws closed when you require both hands for the not-releasing section.This is still something I adore, and I still suggest it.The only issue I had was not having it close by enough a few times, so I'm actually probably going to acquire a second one! It has now endured for a good while and through some trying circumstances. It never seemed fragile, and I always felt like I had a firm grip on whatever I was holding at the time.

Although it took longer than anticipated for this goods to arrive, the seller was incredibly helpful. I hoped I would never need this, but I'm so pleased I did. This evening, when I was bringing out the trash, I let the dogs out in the backyard. A 4 foot Diamondback rattlesnake lying out in the dirt was nearly stomped on. As they ran passed, the dogs failed to notice it. I brought them safely inside and retrieved the bag and snaketongs from the porch where they are kept. The process of unfolding and returning to the snake's location was quick and simple. It performed flawlessly. As he was being bagged, the rattler bit the tongs many times. As it happened, I discovered a water moccasin dozing off on my patio the day the snake tong arrived in the mail. As a result, I took it out of the box and put it to use. The handle effectively compresses the tongs. The tong's length was ideal for the snake to crawl across because it was light. Even with the thick gloves I was wearing, it was simple to maintain the handle compressed to keep the tongs tight while I moved the snake from the yard to the creek. Another dangerous and quite aggressive copperhead that would have been impossible to trap otherwise was just caught by me in my garage (one less chance of my dog getting bitten...again). Certainly for me. Although my heart is still beating, I decided to write this review.The gist of it is that snakes may use it. I've now captured a couple copperheads, and I'll be honest: I dread deadly snakes. It's crucial to get ready before grabbing it. The last thing you want is to find yourself holding a dangerous snake in your claw and having no idea what to do with it. I maintain a metal garbage container next to the grabber that has holes punched in it and a tight cover so the snake may be moved far away.Finding what seems to be the thin line between too much pressure (I don't want to damage it) and not enough pressure (I don't want to drop a pissed-off venomous snake closer to me than it started) can be challenging, but it is what it is. I don't see how you could prevent that.But it functions. The snake I just grabbed was quite aggressive, but it's a good thing since, hopefully, it's just focused on the object you're thrusting in its face and not the person holding it on the other end.Because I'm so frightened of getting bitten, there have been times when I wished it were longer, but I have to admit that so far, catching snakes has been much simpler than I anticipated.

Although it is very slightly smaller than anticipated, it should be fine for smaller snakes (under 5 feet). For larger crotalids or other dangerous snakes, I wouldn't use it.better quality than I anticipated for the money. Great results! Rat snakes going into the chicken yard and devouring the eggs is a concern for me. Moreover, chicklings! I can get rid of the snake without endangering anyone. Even though they are all sold under various names, the six cameras I own that are identical to this one all capture excellent photographs, especially at night when compared to certain other cameras I own. The tiny micro SD card is the sole downside. I use the cameras to monitor nighttime activity on my property. I own chickens, therefore some cameras are pointed at the coops to see what might be hiding there, especially at night. Several images taken with cameras like this one. All is well thus far.
