WARNING: These eyes are 3/4" in diameter rather than 3/8" in diameter, making them dangerous for many boating applications. This is a decent set of basic transom straps for $20. These aren't really fancy, but they function.The hooks have a rod diameter of just more than 1/4", which is ideal for me. I had intended to cut and melt the additional length because 48 inches was going to be too long for me. They actually sewed a loop onto the loose end, and I was able to find a practical location to sort of hook those on to something. It appears to have been made just for my application. Although I don't anticipate them lasting forever, I can imagine them lasting for many years.In general, I'm quite pleased with my purchase. I'd repurchase for smaller boats.

6 Month Update: Over the past 6 months, I have used these tie downs 20 times, and each time they have worked well. On the bow and stern of my kayak, I use them. On a full-size truck with a bed rack, it is loaded.Based on earlier evaluations, I purchased a pair, and I have not been disappointed. I've used them ten to twelve times to fasten my kayak to the truck's roof. It makes docking the boat a lot simpler.Avoid pulling too hard when pulling the rope tight. If you're not careful, you can destroy your boat.These bow/stern lines held their tension throughout a 45-mile excursion in severe rain while being driven at highway speed. These tie downs are quite effective. I bought a used 1990 aluminum boat that was still equipped with the factory-installed tie downs. They were awful. The straps squirmed on the boat and trailer when they were closed and could only be adjusted by 1/8". There was very little protection against the boat bouncing while being pulled. I came upon these and made the decision to test them. Could not be more pleased. They are extraordinarily simple to use. Close after pulling the extra strap from the hooks. They are simple to lock and unlock and remain tightly closed. Yesterday, I tow my boat for two hours with no problems at all. To prevent scratches on your paintwork, the protective rubber is also a pleasant addition. fantastic stuff I got the bow tie down the following day to prevent my front end from bouncing because I loved these so much. Highly advised.

I'm sure you've encountered circumstances where you wished you could have tied your cargo to the front and back bumpers of a little car, like my Jetta TDI. That's what happened with my new kayaks. Then you discovered that the vinyl bumpers have no connection points anywhere near them, and even if there were connections, the ropes would damage the paint on your hood and trunk lid.These loops function admirably, providing a safe tying point anywhere you can catch them in a seam (hood, trunk, door, etc). The only downside was that they should have a stainless steel or brass hook or loop at the end to prevent the strap from rubbing against things (after many trips). To prevent them from falling off, I added several stainless S hooks and wrapped the end of each hook around the strap.This is a wise decision. Yes, you can create a tie-down point for streamlined automobiles and trucks with a length of garden hose and some cord. But why bother when these are more practical, more affordable, and more durable. These have longer straps than some of its competitors, thus they fit almost every door, hatch, and hood I tried them on. (Some of the rival straps were inadequately long and vanished as soon as the hood was fastened.) The standard is high. Good functionality. The cost is fair. Customer content.

They were wonderful, held up well for both kayaks, and have been worn for two weeks and more than 100 miles, including some blustery highway travel. Since our vehicle has many curves and the plastic coating on the hooks isn't the best, you should definitely acquire the bags you can slam in the trunk or bonnet to anchor the hooks.
