For someone this large, the wind vent is extremely helpful.This strikes a decent balance between strength, size, and portability.Golf umbrellas that are the full size only fold up to be around 4 feet long, making them difficult to transport and store. It is difficult to fit in a car or on a shelf. However, since there is just one hinge on each part, it is stronger and less prone to break.Similar-sized umbrellas that can be folded into a foot-long length are useful (though bulky), but the components must be folded twice, resulting in 4 independent segments with 4 joints altogether. Less power and a higher chance of failure result from this.Each element in this one has been divided into two segments, resulting in two pieces for each brace. It can be stored in a car easily, folded down to less than 2 feet with a handle for simple carrying, placed on a shelf, etc. If you carry a purse and have room and want to be able to store it there, that seems unlikely since you wouldn't carry it around constantly and wouldn't want to get your purse wet when stowing it. Sure, it's not as nice as the 1 foot fold ones, but increased strength and reliability seems to be worth it to me.It automatically opens using a spring-loaded mechanism, and when you press the button, it untensions so you may manually close it. What a fantastic umbrella! Since it has two hinges, a strong wind won't be able to bend it like it did to my now-"old" umbrella. Although hanging or setting it around one's wrist does not cause it to stand straight on its own since the handle does not tightly wrap around the arm, the handle is still beautiful. Since you can't burrow down behind the second lower layer as well, you can occasionally end yourself more wet in windier, rainier weather. This seems to be a really solid and well-made umbrella. It has a great wide canopy for a relatively small umbrella. It works just nicely in the rain, which I have previously tested. I ordered a second one because I enjoy it so much. Without having to struggle to tuck it back into the sleeve provided, it fits comfortably in the side pocket of my car. It would be nice if someone could develop a sleeve that truly fits a travel umbrella without a lot of difficulty. I have yet to find a travel umbrella that will actually fit easily into its sleeve; with this one, it is tiny enough to fit without the sleeve. Once opened, it's a good size and of high quality, and it offers a lot of covering. I give this five stars overall.

I got this to carry in my work briefcase, but I had expected it to be smaller and lighter than it turned out to be. I suppose I should have said that it is compact rather than lightweight. This makes it ideal because I can keep it in my briefcase and utilize it as needed because it is so little.
