I put some incredibly basic hinges on the two gates of a fence I had built years ago. A tiny drill bit and a ratchet were used to quickly replace them with these. The second kind I owned required numerous alignment adjustments over the years since it was so sensitive to alignment. Since it uses spring locking as opposed to gravity, this one seems to be a little more forgiving. This latching, opening, and closing are all quite smooth. A would repurchase.*Note: My 6 ft wide gate was also secured with a much larger post in the ground. On the back of the latch is an L-shaped piece of metal that should protrude past the post. That rear L had to be hammered flat, and I had to break the piece off. Once I got everything placed, it still felt really strong and had no effect whatsoever on how the latch operated.

The ideal finishing touch for barn doors inside! They were easy to assemble, and I love the clean aesthetic they provide the space. I'm sure you could use them on a gate. A sturdy lock that should withstand salt air. Smooth operation, although I didn't use the tiny screws that came with it. They might have worked as the hinges I purchased from another vendor also came with tiny screws, but I opted to go with larger ones that were 1 1/2" long to better suit the chamfer. The only other point is that the keeper's hole size has a very narrow tolerance for the throw bolt, thus even the smallest misalignment from settling will require lifting the gate in order to operate the bolt. That has the advantage of preventing the gate from swinging back and forth in a breeze. Overall, pleased with the product.

Exceptionally well-made item that installs and performs as promised. Update: The latch has been on the gate for a few months, and while it continues to function as intended, the edges of the plastic are beginning to go from black to light gray. Although I don't believe it will now impede operation, the discolouration is disheartening, especially as I have two other gates with locks that are MUCH older (and from a different OEM) that still appear to be in pristine condition.

This product is straightforward and completes the task at hand. (1) The end labeled Top (with the white sticker on the nut) goes up and attaches to the door is the trick for a simple installation. Install on the side of the door with the hinges, then (3) slip in the little strip that secures the nut in place after rotating the nut just one side (approximately 1/6 of a full rotation) with a crescent wrench or an equivalent tool. Check to check if there is sufficient tension to close the door. If necessary, repeat. You may want to loop a small piece of wire through the small strip's hole to prevent the loss of that important little tab. You might wish to use a 1/8" pilot hole if your wood is dense.
To attach a gate latch, you will need a few tools including a drill, screwdriver, and screws. Begin by drilling pilot holes into the top and bottom of the gate latch. Next, use the screwdriver to attach the screws into the pilot holes. Be sure to screw the screws in tightly so that the latch is secure.
