I've had no problems with this device since I bought it six months ago. In order to save money on air conditioning, I've been using it primarily to remove hot air from the attic. I'll return home after work, open the garage door, and direct the unit upward for 15 minutes. The amount of heat that gets evacuated is just astounding. I'm not sure if the electricity saved by using the fan for a short period of time is considerable, but I'm happy about it.It's also a lifesaver when working or playing outside on our swelteringly hot - no air moving - Florida summer afternoons when paired with a 100' extension cord.

I did not anticipate that my new barbecue gazebo's aluminum roof would accumulate heat during the day, making the interior fairly heated. I started looking for outdoor fans, and either at big-box home improvement stores or online, the iLiving was the best I could find. This fan is excellent. The 14" I purchased has three usable speeds. I typically use the intermediate setting because the strongest has such a powerful blast. It has a lengthy pull chain that may be readily cut to the length that is most comfortable for you. Let me respond to some inquiries you might have:The length of the power wire.Six feet, thus, like me, you might require an extension. Make sure to purchase a three plug round, black cable in a standard 14 gauge for the best match. I especially enjoy the affordable Woods model that is also offered on Amazon. It is the ideal match. Get an extension cord specifically for outdoor use.What tools are provided, and how do I attach the fan?The steel bracket that is fastened to the back of the fan has two holes. Installing it is simple. I went out and bought some bolts and nuts that would best fit the metal frame I was fastening it to. Two holes of differing sizes are required because one hole is bigger than the other. Although there are two good-sized wood screws included, I needed a nut and bolt to fasten to metal.Does it rotate?Yes, you may choose between front to back and side to side. The provided bracket swivels front to back for my use or perpendicular to the bracket because I needed to position it horizontally. (See the photo of me with the fan on the gazebo side.) Depending on the space you have for hardware, you may need to purchase an additional bracket, such as a L bracket, if you require it to rotate in all directions.Is it raucous?Just the wind noise it creates! I'm awestruck. I only ever write reviews for things that I genuinely enjoy. I always believe that modern products are created cheaply and inadequately, therefore I rarely see the need of evaluations. When the fan was delivered, I was taken aback by the color. It was a new shade of yellowish color to me; it wasn't a bright yellow. It truly looks lovely and complements my off-white walls wonderfully.The fact that the entire unit is a little heavy is a result of how beautifully it was constructed. The unit is quite well constructed, and the plastic doesn't feel cheap. The power chord is strong and has a good amount of length.The procedure went better than I had anticipated. I needed to move some air, so I got this. I need to transport the cold air from one end of my two-story colonial to the other so that hot air from the pellet stove may circulate throughout the rest of the house. If you want a gentle wind to brush your face as you read a book, I wouldn't get this. On the lowest setting, your hair will be blowing in the breeze, making you appear like Fabio in one of his ads. Not too much noise was present. The motor is barely audible; all you can hear are the whooshing sounds of a lot of air flowing. The lack of vibration and the inability to detect it even from a few feet away on a hard wood floor indicate that the turbines are properly balanced, in my opinion.This fan is perfect if you want to dry out a basement or give your dog the 60 mph sensation with his head out the window.The overall quality and operation are both outstanding. No grievances. Enjoy!

I have never paid quite this much for a fan, but I would make this purchase again in a heartbeat. The shape is stable; we had a squarish box fan that got knocked over all the time, made a terrible racket. There's a carry handle for when you have to move it from one room to another, but it's a big fan, meant—as the name indicates—to sit on the floor and pretty much stay there. If you want a little desk thing you can regularly take from room to room, this isn't it. This is the workhorse you want on a miserable hot day with the air conditioning off, or no air conditioning—as is often the case here in Seattle, where few homes have central air and a few more have a window unit that doesn't cool the whole house. It's the sort of fan that kids will fight to be in front of until a parent or grandparent comes in and barks at them to all go siddown. And it's the sort of fan that a woman that hates heat like grim death wants when her husband moans that he is cold if she turns the window unit on. For goodness sake, it's 85 degrees out there! It's a sauna in here, and we can't use the a/c? The hell you say. No, fine. It's fine. I'll turn on the fan. No, I am NOT turning the fan off at bedtime!People comment on the noise level. It's about the same as having the fan over the stove running. Will it interfere with your TV show? Quite possibly. I don't watch a lot of TV, but if I had to choose comfort or entertainment, I would choose comfort. Turn the TV off and the fan on. You can still have a conversation with others as long as nobody mumbles.There are three fans in this house, not counting the oscillating fan on a skinny, unstable stand that was broken right away by a resident teenager. The other two that remain are a weak little thing that sits tidily on a desk top, and another big floor fan similar to this one but made of white plastic (and apparently no longer being sold) (and apparently no longer being sold.) If I had to pick just one of them to keep, it would be this one. But also, I have reasonably large rooms in my house.. If I were in a very small apartment, I might rethink it. Look at the measurements on the specifications here before you make the purchase if you aren't sure a big ol' fan like this one can go in the room where you want it.

I had water in my basement from torrential rains and every summer I have a small dehumidifier that doesn't seem to take the dampness out. After the water incident I thought to get one of these drying fans and most likely use it in the summer months also. So far it is drying out very well. It is a smaller unit but I have a large basement and found that just moving it around in sections really does the trick. The timer and extra outlet feature on it are a true plus. I plugged in an additional fan for the window to it and works like a charm. Just as the other reviews stated it is very quiet. For the size it truly pushes a significant amount of air. I will have to see how it performs during the summer so that will have to wait till next year. I have put an inquiry in to the company to find out how long I should or shouldn't let it continuously run. I am waiting for feedback and will post once I hear back for informational purposes.

Description accuracy: The description is correct. It does cool, and it does have three speeds. It is used in my living room, which is currently 84.5 degrees. A benefit of the fan blowing at me is that I don't feel overheated. After two months of waiting, the AC in our apartment is finally fixed, and it feels amazing and prevents me from sweating.Usefulness: In my opinion, it is quite useful. With the AC not working, it is the only thing preventing me from perspiring as previously mentioned. I'm thrilled with this buy because I despise perspiration. We use it in the living room during the day and in the bedroom at night to aid with sleep. Just loud enough for us to fall asleep.advantages: operates, rotates, and blows air, There is no rattling. It is light and portable, and because it is white, it is less likely to cause a trip.Cons: When it's on, you shouldn't move it. When a fan is on, I always move it. (Update July 2019... Price of this fan has dropped $10 in the last year, making this fan only $15 more expensive than the B-air Firtana to which I compare it below. Both fans are still working for me. But the B-air Firtana has eleven percent 1-star reviews, most because of the fan quickly dying whereas this Lasko has only three percent one-star reviews. At just a $15 difference, I'd buy the Lasko today. The reviews are four times more negative for the B-air, though, again, both are still working for me.)This fan shows up alongside the B-air Firtana-20X when you search for 20-inch fans on Amazon. They look fairly similar, so why does this fan cost so much more—$62 vs $39 for the B-air? Having recently bought one of each, here are my observations.Similarities:1. Dimensions, pivoting ability, weight. They seem very similarly constructed initially.2. Apparent effectiveness in moving air. Both have three speeds, both seem to put out air well. If anything, in a subjective test the B-air seems a bit more powerful. But again, this was subjective...3. Construction. Both have metal shrouds, metal blades, rubber shock absorbers connecting fan to stand to keep vibration down and grounded three-prong plugs at the end of substantial cords.Differences which might explain the difference in price:1. The Lasko has a front-mounted speed control. The B-air has its speed control mounted directly on the motor and can only be controlled from the back.2. The Lasko comes with a substantial wall mounting plate. The B-air says it can be mounted on the wall, but doesn't include a fixture for doing so. It's up to you to find the hardware for hanging the B-air. Also, the Lasko's front-mounted switch makes controlling it when wall-mounted more convenient.3. The Lasko's motor is enclosed in a plastic shield at the back while the B-air exposes the metal back of its motor. Is a shield better? I don't know. One reviewer complains about hair becoming sucked into the B-motor. air's Perhaps a shield would help with this. Yet a shield is an added expense, and I would think Lasko wouldn't put one over the back of their motor if there weren't some utility in doing so.4. The Lasko has hinged connectors for mating the two halves of the fan shroud, making it an easy tool-less job to remove the shroud and clean the blades. The B-air has screws attaching the two halves of the shroud over the blade.Conclusion:It's a crap shoot. But the B-air has a surprising number of one-star reviews which claim the fan died within months of purchase—and a number of reviewers also claim that the B-air is a generic fan sold under many names. Take the risk on the B-air and you might be happy you did. If you want to hang your fan from a wall, get the Lasko. Perhaps in a year I will know more about their reliability. Right now it's hard to judge, and the Lasko is a great deal more expensive. I say go with the B-air, but if it breaks I'll be back with an update.

I wanted to wait till I had this fan for a long before saying anything, but it works pretty well now. My family room is sizable and has a cathedral ceiling. I've been unable to find a ceiling fan installation method that doesn't entail unsightly electrical conduit. This fan can be placed in a corner, facing upward, and it will move the hot air that gathers in the summer at the high point of the ceiling. Yes, it is quite noisy on high, but a lot of air is being moved. When the room has cooled down, we turn to the low setting, which makes it simple to converse and hear the television. Its small size and light weight. There should have been a remote.

They weren't joking when they said hurricane fan. This fan is powerful and noisy. Although it performs admirably as a fan, don't anticipate it to be particularly silent.
