As an acoustic guitarist, I put a lot of effort into recording at my studio. I've learnt to play multiple instruments, including percussion on backing tracks, in order to get things done. I purchased this 16" Remo Buffalo Drum because I needed the sound of a bass drum. My socks were knocked off by the deep pitch—a low G—and gorgeous sound of this drum. My chest literally vibrated, and the walls were literally shook! By muting the head with my palm, I can quickly mimic the sound of a kick drum. Despite being excellent, none of the Remo frame drums I own can match this Buffalo Drum's dynamic responsiveness. A light touch results in a soft pianissimo, while a small smash produces a jaw-rattling fortissimo! In other words, you don't need to exert much force to receive a wide range of dynamics from this drum. Effortless!The Buffalo Drum has excellent workmanship and a gothic aesthetic. I enjoy how securely the rope is fastened. In actuality, the handle is required for this design because holding by the frame muffles the sound. Although the stick is a bit on the light side—I'd prefer a robust oak stick—it makes a fantastic sound. The fabric-wrapped rubber head produces the ideal bass tone. My foam and feeling sticks didn't sound nearly as well as the supplied stick when I tried them. The Buffalo Drum is built in the USA, unlike my other Remo frame drums! Remo, great job!

There weren't any reviews for the 18 "so I'll give you one. This head is amazing, in my opinion. I'm aware that 18 "is typically considered to be more of a jazz size, and the Gretsch Catalina Club is offered in that configuration, but in reality, you are not restricted by that. In my opinion, the bop kits are ideal for all types of music in this day and age where playing music too loudly is already frowned upon. Smaller kits can often be simpler to record because there is less air movement, which means there will probably be less acoustic issues.I put this ported resonant head and an EMAD on the opposite side of the drum, tuned them both quite low, and now I have a fantastic small bass drum with the ideal low pop rock sound. The interior of the ported head is lined. You can certainly stick your hand in there to adjust your blankets or your microphone without worrying about scratching your skull, but it won't offer protection from anything like a razor blade.The Sennheiser e602 II is my go-to kick drum microphone because it provides the ideal combination of mix-ready and in-room sound for me. Even without a ported resonant bass drum head, my e602 can capture a nice tone from practically any bass drum. However, with the port, it is simple to fine-tune exactly what to obtain from the kick drum, resulting in a more controlled sound with less bleed and EQ.Get your head on. You'll enjoy it, and live sound and studio professionals will as well.

Profile: A very seasoned gamer who has kind of reached old age. Doing this for a while.Used on: the DW Performance Series (because I loved it), the HVX Maple, and the Oil Stain. Bass drum, 16 x 20. Rogers Swiv-O-Matic pedal, hybrid felt/acrylic beater, new generation.OK, I replaced the stock DW by Remo head since, well, it wasn't doing the job; what a letdown. Used EMAD2 on the Yamahas I sold, and wow, what a difference! In that case, stupid fantastic awesome greatness!went from a "thud" to a KABOOM a few octaves down. This is without a doubt the greatest STRIKE SIDE bass drum (kick) head available, and that's even after removing the impact side DW pillow and not adjusting the heavier dampening ring. I considered trying the GMAD, but I decided against it. I'm so happy I did, and you get to pick your POW!The FEEL was another payoff that I failed to notice in the evaluations I read. Yes, it tunes in perfectly, but that...FEEL!With the newly-returned-to-production Rogers Swiv-O-Matic pedal, I have no trouble getting wappity-wappity triplets. Such a wonderful piece of work! I wish that all drum goods had such a noticeable impact.Stop looking around and just buy it!

Adjustable Hole Cutter Tool for Bass Drumheads

Definitely a lifesaver... I could have used an exacto knife, but it wouldn't produce a circular cut that was consistent. If you've marked the spot on the back of your reso head where the pointed pin goes, your center will be off the first time you use this product, but that's acceptable. A tiny metal pin with a tip, resembling a tack, is inserted into the cutter's hole. Additionally, be sure to measure the distance from the cutting blade to the pointer. For this, you'll need a solid surface. I put a portion of the bass drum box from another bass drum head on my table. You set down the Reso Head logo. Locate your markings (measure, measure, and re-measure before making the cut.) Your first attempt won't be particularly attractive, but it will get a lot of work done because I used to do this with an exacto knife. The secret is to push somewhat firmly where the pin is while turning the cutting end in a circle. But you HAVE to press down on both ends. Typing it and attempting to explain it makes it appear much more challenging than it is. You could see the line after my pass, but I didn't exert any pressure on the cutting blade. As soon as I depressed, you'll hear a brief "pop," which is the cutting blade piercing the reso head. Keep applying pressure while turning. The cardboard is used in this situation to prevent table damage. I only have a before-and-after photo because it happened so quickly (I used it to cut a 5 in. hole for my kickport 2), which is the third hole away from the cutting blade. But as I've said before, please double check your measurements before making any cuts. If you feel awkward cutting holes, utilize one of the templates provided by Aqurian. I made use of the materials that arrived with my kickport2, and I'm particularly pleased with the way my bass drum looks and sounds. It sounds like a booming cannon. Using an exacto blade (this was my first time) would have taken me 30 minutes to an hour, but now that I've used this bass drum O's Hole cutter, I've probably cut 16 to 17 different snare, tom, and bass drum heads and I'm done in less than 5 minutes, with the majority of that time being spent taking measurements. I've included before and after pictures that show my kit before the hole was made and the picture of my kit after I had installed the kickport, which was made possible by this tool.If you're asking why I would add a kickport to a DW reso head that is completely surrounded by tiny holes, it's just because my kit is in the studio. As a studio drummer, I enjoy trying new things. When combined with a clear EMAD2 batter head and the Evans double click pad, the kickport2 produces an incredible sound. However, after the reso head was modified, I find that the mic sounds much deeper when I use the felt side of the bass drum beater. There are no triggers, and the recording has no special effects. Just pure deep bass sounds fantastic. I've had several folks ask to "barrow" my hole cutter, but I always tell them to check Amazon instead. following the creation of a hole in their defense. I strive to share and play well; I'm not a jerk.

I used to use 5bs, so at first these felt enormous, but after using them a few times, I don't ever want to switch back to a smaller stick. The 17" length gives them much more power. Like most Vic Firth bags, it has a front pocket (although it really only fits pocket books, no accessories, or sticks), and the hooks function as long as you don't take the bag on and off your set every thirty minutes.
