The drum is beautiful and well-made. Although it is actually quite heavy, the price was too good to pass up. I bought it to bring to an arts festival so that I could take part in drum circles, however the drum is too little for me even though I have small hands. Although it is stated in the product description that the drum is primarily for ornamental purposes than actual drumming, I had held out hope. Therefore, I'm returning the drum and getting a bigger one. This is a winner if you're seeking for something that complements your decor. You need to keep looking if you're looking for a real instrument, even for a kid.

Love the design; excellent quality. Even though it says it's for "Children," I think people of all ages—drummers and non-drummers alike—would appreciate it. Given that, I'm not sure whether I would buy it for a 3-year-old, but an older youngster (and adults) would find it entertaining. Simply because I believe you should be able to appreciate the various tones and features that it can make depending on how you hold or strike it. It has a pleasant tone and is heavier and more substantial than I had anticipated. I did had relatively high expectations in terms of quality because I do own other Aklot products (a ukulele), but I was not let down. The hand-painted pattern on the side is nice. And that's one aspect of my input (which is neither favorable nor negative): the randomness of the design you get. While some might want the element of surprise, others might choose a certain design or color to complement their other clothing. Because I enjoy mine so much and didn't mind not knowing, I'll just say that.It would be wonderful to include a tiny book or manual as well. What makes the Djembe unique from other African drums, how to hold it, etc. I'm aware that some people disregard manuals, but I have a small one that came with a Mbira (not an Aklot), and I value some of the basic information in it.

I just attended BREATHE fest, a slackline and yoga festival in Chicago, and while there, I saw an organized drum circle. The instructors were incredibly open with their knowledge, and as soon as I left, I was wishing I had a djembe. So, with little expectation, I looked up a few drums on Amazon. To my surprise, I discovered a ton of them. I decided to go with the Meinl due to its high level of construction after reading the evaluations, and prayed for the best. I've been playing this drum for a few weeks, and I genuinely adore it. I only wish I had purchased a larger head! The high slap tones are amazing once you tune it, but the bass resonance is truly fantastic. Excellent stuff all around. I would DEFINITELY suggest this to anyone; these are top-notch Meinl items. eager to purchase additional djembes!

The tones are incredible, and it was perfectly tuned right out of the box! This Djembe is a wonderful option if you want a high-quality drum without breaking the budget.I am overjoyed with my buy!

I bought a package of 15 for my classroom because I teach general music to elementary students. The older grades occasionally find them amusing, and my Prek–2nd grade friends LOVE them. They are the ideal size for young hands, making it simple to scatter and gather them again. They are small, which helps students with sensory difficulties because the sound doesn't get too loud. The varnish on the drums gives out a mothball scent, which is the sole drawback. Kids undoubtedly complained about the stench at first, but it has subsided over time.

At this price, it is what it is. Although it has an authentic appearance, the djembe is not tunable and has a rough carving. However, the playability and sound are surprising. Being little, it is obviously towards the treble end of the djembe sound spectrum, but even so, it sounds fantastic and allows for a lot of flexibility and control. Nice for playing quietly while watching TV and relaxing on the couch. It worked great on a recording I made with it!

Although there are instructions included for tuning the drum, they do not explain how to determine when it needs to be tuned. This was neatly wrapped and arrived to me in fine shape. It is "loosely" tuned, just like the others are, because you might not want to tighten it up all that much to avoid splitting the goat skin head, depending on where you intend to use them, ambient temperature, and humidity. The fact that this drum is actually handmade is the first thing I noticed about it. The inside is fairly shabby and shows evidence of handcrafted construction. Nobody else can speak for them, but I adore that. This drum was carved by an Indonesian, as is evident. Exactly as stated, with the exception that the head isn't 10 ". Given that the playing area spans 8 3/4 inches, this drum is a little undersized for me because my hands are 7 inches long. The size of the drum head is 9 1/2 "not counting the mounting material, from side to side. I shouldn't be playing this drum with only my fingers and no palm at all. With the exception of the size, this drum sounds fantastic, is nicely made, and is reasonably priced. This one is going in my collection because of the design, cool element, and potential to pique curiosity in others. It will be perfect for someone with smaller hands than mine. Sound quality is significantly better than what I had anticipated and what I had heard on YouTube.

Both straps and hooks work well, however I discovered that using this strap to carry a large surdo is difficult for me because it tends to drag the drum around to the middle of my body, and I require it to stay on one side. One comment I read criticized the hooks' durability, however I have discovered that they hold my 22" surdo just fine. So there are no issues there (perhaps they fixed that issue).
