It was rare for me to use an i5-2500k for more than 6 years because, in the past, I rebuilt my computer at least every 3 years and occasionally upgraded the video card or other components in between. I had to proceed with the rebuild when I spotted the Prime Day price for this processor at $224.99. These components are listed here since I needed them for the rebuild and so that others will know what components seamlessly integrated into my system. This is the first system I've created in more about ten years without an Intel processor. In case anyone is interested in PCIe M.2 SSDs or RAM, I wanted to quickly evaluate the components that, in my experience, performed well together. Once the bios was configured, the DDR4 memory is indicated as tested for the aforementioned configuration and it functions well at 3200 speeds.

So this is both my first 8 core CPU and my first Ryzen build (2700X). Thanks to Intel's outrageous pricing, 8-core CPUs are now out of reach for the majority of consumers.My old computer, an i5 6600K running at 4.7GHz, was fantastic for gaming alone.Anyway, when the system was finally put together and turned on for the first time, nothing appeared on the display. All of the flashy LED lights and fans were on and the system had power. So I switched my RAM from A1 to B1 to A2 and B2. Then the technique worked perfectly to boost! I first believed the most recent BIOS update would resolve the issue. However, if I insert the RAMs in slots A and B, the system still fails to post despite the most recent BIOS update. You might want to remove the battery, cut off the power, and then sort the two pins to reset the CMOS after moving the RAM sticks to A2B2.I must admit that the Ryzen BIOS is a little strange coming from the Intel platform. I simply needed to change the vcore for CPU voltage on the Skylake. However, it appears that Ryzen has a second voltage to watch out for, the SoC voltage. I manually set my voltage to 1.375, however HWinfo shows that the maximum it reached was 1.5v, so I suppose I still need to make some adjustments.I purchased a fairly old Crucial 2400Mhz cl16 Ram when Intel Skylake initially became available. With the Intel machine, I was able to overclock it to 2700Mhz, but I was unable to do so with the Ryzen; it simply did not post. In the future, maybe when RAM costs come down, I'll upgrade to 3200mh c14 RAM.After installing the drivers, I thought about trying out AC Origins on this system while Windows Update was running in the background. After playing for about five minutes, I noticed that all of the fans, including the CPU fan, had stopped. The CPU temperature rose to well over 90 degrees as a result, so I turned it off and let it cool. I tested the game again after fully updating Windows, and everything worked fine!I'm going to install Adobe applications and will shortly provide further details.One of the most aggravating problems I have is that the vcore and CPU speed measurements displayed by CPU-Z, HWinfo, and the Asus AI suite are all drastically different. I'm not sure which is correct, therefore. Ryzen Master has not yet been installed.Oh, and my current idling temperatures are at 43 degrees Celsius while the ambient temperature is about 24. I'm using the OEM cooler that came with the 2700X. I'll have to utilize this cooler until I can attach my NH-D15 on AM4 hardware.Regards, AMD!UPDATE 23-May-2018: I received the mounting kit for my Noctua NH-D15, and as a result, my system is now idling at 30 degrees Celsius and running at 4.22 GHz with 1.4 volts in the BIOS! relative to the stock cooler, there is a lot of thermal headroom. It peaks at 60 degrees when every core is under 100% tension! With the stock cooler and no OC, it reaches the 80s.ADVANCED 29 MAY 2018 OVERCLOCKING:I discovered that 1.425v in the BIOS with LLC set to Auto gave me a rock-solid 4.2Ghz overclock when I initially bought the CPU. But after that, I kept noticing these odd vcore changes. The vcore maintains a constant voltage between 1.4 and 1.412 volts when it is idle. However, the vcore decreases and hovers at 1.362v when I put the CPU under stress with a demanding activity! That was strange. more vcore while not in use and less vcore under stress. lolSo I manually adjusted my BIOS vcore to 1.387v and LLC to 5 after running a few tests, and now the system is always at this vcore even when stressed to 100% and even when it is idle! NICE. I realized I required LLC5 to keep my vcore there. When the LLC is set to 4, the vcore degrades from 1.387 volts to 1.362 volts under stress, resulting in Prime95's crash. When stressed with Prime95, LLC5 maintains 1.387v, thus I didn't even need to increase the vcore!Therefore, avoid leaving the vcore and LLC on Auto. Please set your LLC when you OC.

It is a beast when coupled with an Asus Z390 Maximus Hero and 32GB of Gskill 3200 CL14, but forget about overclocking because Intel has already pushed it to the limit of how well it can compete with AMD in the market right now. It runs quickly, but it also significantly slows down because of the temperature and power limit. I have a Noctua NH-D15S with two installed fans, and the temperature rises to the high 70sC and spikes toIt requires a lot more power than 95 watts, and I have gone up to 180 Watts only on the CPU. The clocks don't stay consistent unless you mess with the BIOS.Intel was rushing to introduce this chip to compete in the market, despite the fact that this CPU definitely needed a die decrease.Additional thoughts: Even with a really strong CPU cooler, it will run quite hot.

A superb performer at an incredible value. While the outrageously high prices for video cards persist, the new AMD APUs are hailed as an excellent entry level gaming solution. I would concur, even though I don't use mine for gaming but rather as a Home Theater PC (HTPC) to power my 42-inch bedroom TV. It impressed me when I ran a few games through it. A people were worried that these CPU dies would run hotter since they weren't soldered to the integrated heat spreader (IHS), but instead some thermal compound (often called TIM, or thermal interface material) was used to help save money. However, I don't think this is a problem. A soldered die would perform better in this case, although individuals are successfully overclocking the processor and integrated graphics solution with the B and X series motherboards. I don't overclock, and I'm using a very basic A320 motherboard that doesn't support it. However, since I'm mostly using this as a HTPC, gaming is not a priority. There are several gaming benchmark videos on YouTube.Because I was utilizing a motherboard I had lying around for a while, installation was a little challenging. My Linux workstation was originally going to use that motherboard, but they just didn't get along. For the Ryzen 3 1300X build, I used a different motherboard, and I put this one in a box. To get this A320 motherboard to function with the new APU, I had to install the most recent BIOS. I changed the BIOS and borrowed the CPU from my Linux computer. Reassembled my Linux computer with the CPU back in place, and the next day the 2200G from Amazon arrived. I'll admit that I didn't utilize the provided cooler while installing the CPU. Although I had the larger CPU cooler from the Ryzen 7 1700 that is in my Windows gaming PC, it's a terrific cooler. Yes, I currently own a bunch of Ryzen-based PCs.Anyway, I used a program called Rufus to burn the most recent Windows 10 64-bit ISO to a 16GB USB flash drive, then I installed it onto a 250GB SATA SSD. Windows initially operated poorly. really slowly The chipset drivers were set up. This made things better. Though video performance had improved, it was still not entirely faultless. The integrated Vega GPU ran MUCH better once I downloaded the most recent video drivers from AMD, but it was still a little sluggish. I also noted that the default frame rate for 4K over HDMI was 30FPS. I was able to increase it to 60 FPS by going into the driver. An update for Windows 10 then requested to be installed. It was now moving as swiftly as I had anticipated. I just needed to use my Microsoft account to transfer my Windows 10 license. This was a simple process.The first 4K YouTube video I played initially ran without issues, but when I made it full screen for some reason, it became corrupted. Reloading the website and removing it from full screen appeared to fix issue. Since I built this PC the day following launch day till now, it has only happened once more. Although it's a strange problem, it appears to be a driver issue, and I'm confident it will go away after a few upgrades.The procedure I used was to get the most recent Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft, install Windows, install the Chipset driver, and then install the video driver. Gamers Nexus and some other early reviewers had a lot of difficulty completing it any other way, which led to this being confirmed later. Hence, yay me?Finally, as of the time this article was written, it appears that this is the approach for a successful experience constructing a PC on this platform. I believe it will run lot more smoothly once the drivers, BIOS, and Windows catch up with this new edition. However, keep a close eye on yet newer BIOS updates for your motherboard and I would avoid any beta BIOS releases. It's really nerdy but if you are reading this you are probably buying this CPU to construct a PC and would be checking on this anyway. This item was sent through the mail like any other shipment. It was just another dull day for me, so I decided to open the box and peek inside. Immediately, the sun's rays shone down, and in the distance, people could be heard singing in unison. I instantly yelled at them to be quiet since I didn't want them to sour the occasion. My hands were cold and sweating when I reached into the package and extracted the Ryzen 9 box. It peered back at me as I did the same. When I could no longer wait, I hurried into the lab and started tearing the box away from the computer. As I placed this gorgeous piece of gear in my PC, the only sounds outside my door were the sound of sparks and metal clinking. I was aware that what I had was beautiful and unique. I went to an Intel convention where people screamed and fled in horror because I wanted to show it off. They were aware that what I carried was more powerful than their most potent tool—the i9—by more than thirteen levels. I could finally boast that I had the better processor after everything I had to go through. In either case, I endorse!

TL;DR: Excellent and reliable processor for gaming and general computing tasks. Despite not costing any more money, it still has a nice stock steady boost clock of roughly 4.2GHz and a good cooling. Be cautious when choosing a motherboard because it may be difficult to support AMD processors from the third generation on boards with an x470 and below bios version.For gaming, I expect this kid to run at a consistent 4291-4316 MHz clock speed with sporadic single core turbos up to 4392 MHz. According to other reviewers, the 3800x has a little higher single core erratic burst frequency than the 4.2 ghz all core stable boost clock, however this small performance advantage is definitely not worth the extra $70. With my Phanteks PH-TC14PE (nh-d15 equivalent), the 3700x maintains an average frequency of 4070MHz for the duration of a 30-minute Aida 64 stress test (see image).This processor is combined with a 570x Aorus elite so that I wouldn't have to deal with the hassle of performing numerous CPU swaps on a b450 or an x470 board to update the bios (also, I made a savings of $70 over the 3800x). Some of those boards have quick flash capabilities, but if not, installing an outdated 2nd or 1st generation CPU, updating it, then reinstalling the new processor to make sure it functions is time-consuming and somewhat uncomfortable. A number of Ryzen 3xxx out-of-the-box compatible B450 boards have also been announced as of 5/20/19, however no release date has been given.My system's motherboard and CPU were switched, and as a result, Windows ran slowly.
