I got this to cook quickly over charcoal at home and to bring camping. There isn't much to this grill; it is fairly simple. I never even considered reviewing a tabletop charcoal grill. However, despite being abused and neglected, this little boy was more prepared than ever for the upcoming camping season, so I felt compelled to write a brief citation about him.You see, I neglected to clean it, and to make matters worse, it was abandoned OUT IN THE WEATHER on a friend's property for more than eight months, exposed to rain, dirt, snow, and freezing temperatures. My friend claimed he found it lying on its side not far from the cabin. I initially believed it was no big problem as I had misplaced it there and was about to get another one. I took it home, cleaned it up, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was sparkling! The porcelain kettle has not even a trace of rust. There is not a single flaw in the finish. Nothing at all oxidized. The oxidized gunk all easily peeled off. appeared brand new. Despite being covered in grime from all the summer and fall grilling, the grate shone brilliantly. No rust at all on that either. I didn't treat this poor guy too well, so I wasn't expecting it to clean up so beautifully after being abandoned in the woods for a while and never having been washed previously. Naturally, Weber uses better-quality components and finishes. Due of this, their older grills are still available everywhere long after the cheap department store specials have rusted or disintegrated, much like my $700 gas barbecue did in less than three seasons (which was not a Weber). However, despite being well-cared for and stored in my garage, that grill couldn't live the full two years without a rusted firebox. I observed that the firebox's finish was like a thin glaze long before the rust started to show up. When flexed and when fasteners were tightened during assembly, it literally made audible cracking noises. It was confirmed by black specks. I wonder why it rusted so quickly, hmm?Similar to how a KitchenAid stand mixer is an icon, the Weber kettle is also a cultural symbol. Both are strong, uncomplicated pieces that last a very long time. Since I am forced to abandon my pricey but subpar gas grill because it is no longer covered by warranty, I recently purchased the original full size kettle, which is bigger. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on another gas barbecue because the majority of them rust. Although using charcoal is more labor-intensive and smokey than using a knob, the taste is superior, and a Weber will last a lifetime thanks to its durable finish and superior materials and construction.

To my surprise, I actually got into cooking and liked frying hamburgers and hot dogs on this Weber kettle grill just yesterday for my first outdoor party! I had originally planned on buying a grill and leaving it up to my dad or brother, but I ended up really getting into it!Prior to purchasing this barbecue from Amazon, I did a ton of research. I opted for a charcoal grill over a propane one because I didn't want to deal with propane tanks (a friend's grill nearly caught fire due to a frayed hose; no thanks! ), I prefer the flavor and aroma of charcoal grills, and most importantly because they are less expensive. A fine charcoal barbecue like this one was less expensive to purchase than an equally nice propane grill. With a charcoal barbecue, grilling was more affordable to start. A chimney starter, grilling equipment like tongs and forks, a steel brush to clean the grates, Weber Fire starting cubes, and some heavy duty mittens to protect your hands and forearms while grilling are some of the essential items I advise anyone purchasing this grill to purchase. All of these were acquired from Amazon at the same time as the grill.I'm glad I chose this model over the less expensive charcoal grill while deciding which one to purchase because of the ash catcher.With the exception of attaching the ash catcher itself, the grill was simple to put together on my own once it was delivered in its original packaging. Rolling it with lighted charcoal, as with the kettle, causes me no concern.Customer support for Weber. Have a difficulty? It will be fixed by Weber. Mine arrived with a support for a fractured leg. No more flying paper fragments and ash, lighters, matches, torches, or anything else. I've tried to think of what I might do differently, but I can't think of a better way to go about it.Fuel bin lacks a lid. To me, it seems like a no-brainer. If there is a lid, spiders and other creepy crawlies won't get in; this one is without. If you like, you may create a temporary lid out of a bin liner and a bungee cord.Interior of lid has no hook. Considering that you already have a fantastic lid basket, it is not a big concern, but it seems like they could have left the traditional hanger hook on the inside of the lid so you could hang it low if you desired. When I questioned Weber about why they took it down, the polite woman claimed she was unsure.There isn't much storage space on the bottom shelf since a container, tools that are hanging, and an ashtray block most of the access to the shelf. Due to the restricted access, it is great for keeping accessories like rib racks and such items on but is not very practical.There are still no marks on the bottom vent slider indicating whether the vents are open or closed. Since you frequently can't see your vents, you might assume that this would be simple for them to accomplish. It would also be quite useful. Simply mark the metal with a sharpie at 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% open. When you can't actually see your vent, you will still have a pretty good notion of how it is configured. The markings won't be linear because of how the vent lobes are shaped, but it's still simple to eyeball.greater in size and weight than the Kettle. Finally, I wanted a grill that was good and versatile so I could experiment with different grilling techniques.The Smokey Joe GOLD stood out at first because I liked how straightforward it was, how the grill was shaped like a circle, how the lid locked, and how it kept the muck within because there was no bottom vent. This is when I discovered that the high vents were causing the charcoals to burn poorly or even go out. I've read on the forums that you can direct the airflow to solve this issue, but I decided that I didn't want to deal with the additional labor.The Smokey Joe SILVER also appeared fantastic. The main problem was hygiene. I reasoned that I could purchase the bag to carry it in, which would make the set ideal. The bag cost $20, and the grill was $30, for a total of $50. I started researching the go-anywhere because it was the same price as this. This was purchased by my wife for a Labor Day camping trip. I turned the grill's grate upside down on the fire to burn off any residue after reading reviews that mentioned paint or oil dropping during the first use. The grill was twisted as a result—no surprise there—but it quickly returned to normal after cooling.The following three days were spent grilling with great success! Absolutely no complaints! held up and was robust; it did not "melt" as some other reviewers had said. Without a doubt, I'd purchase this again.Please be aware that the grill is not very tall. If you plan to cook over a fire ring, it would be wise to find some pebbles or, as we did, cinder blocks to raise the height. This wouldn't be a problem if you built a tiny fire, but we had an extra-large grill, so it required a bigger fire. If we hadn't brought the blocks, the grill would have actually sat on the fire ring. Pretty great. This was my purchase to serve as a smoker add-on for my 5650 grill. The holes on the legs of the 5650 did not line up, and I had to slightly drill them out to allow the bolts to pass through. I think the 5650 has that issue more so than this. View the images.The spacers are way too short, which is another issue that has been brought up in multiple reviews, unless you don't mind having your smoker attachment installed at an angle. One review stated that if you phone their customer support, they will send you spacers of the appropriate length. Some I created at work are effective. My length of 1-3/4" made it level. Two bolts measuring 2-1/2" in length are also required. The 2" ones that come with the smoker won't be sufficient.It was recently mounted to my 5650 grill. If the paint starts peeling too soon or if another issue arises later, I'll update my review.After finishing this evaluation, I called Char-Griller CS and got the proper length spacers. They took almost two weeks to arrive, but once fastened to the grill, the smoker box is nice and level thanks to two 2-1/2" bolts and two 1-3/4" spacers that they included. You just need to provide them the serial number that can be located on the smoker's rear, and there is no fee for the parts. The image below compares one of the spacers that came with the unit originally to the one that I recently got. I seasoned it as instructed, so maybe the paint won't peel.

There are numerous typos with the instructions, and the legs were given the wrong labels. Before understanding that the holes for attaching the body were pointing in the wrong direction, my husband and I assembled the entire bottom. Although it was annoying to have to redo that section, we enjoyed ourselves while figuring it out together on a sunny afternoon. We put it together fast once we understood that you should only use the instructions as a broad guide and then exercise common sense. The wide grill area has been used twice in a succession, and both times the temperature gauge has worked perfectly. It does the job and produces some great (vegan!) barbeque meals. I am 5'9 and my hubby is 5'11, so there isn't a height issue as another reviewer claimed. Compared to my old, little Walmart grill, which was equally great, this one is higher up. It appears to be a bogus review from a rival. However, despite its substantial size and attached smoker, it is inexpensive. You'll be let down if you expect the grill of a lifetime for $100, but that is also common sense, and it's your own responsibility if you lack it. My item was not dented, and I do not consider it to be "very cheaply" manufactured. Contrarily, I believe it to be nice and lightweight, simple to transport, simple to empty, quickly heated, and extremely attractive in the yard. It was also reasonably priced; I believe it was worth the money I spent, and I anticipate using it for at least ten years. I haven't used the smoker and don't really plan to for the time being; I bought it for the grill, so that wouldn't matter in my evaluation.
