Yes, you can add cold water to wort, but it's not recommended. Wort is the unfermented beer, and adding cold water can cause the wort to become cloudy.
Yes, you can let wort cool overnight. There are a few things to keep in mind, though. First, make sure the wort is covered so that it doesn't pick up any off flavors from the air. Second, don't let the wort cool below 68 degrees Fahrenheit, as this is the temperature at which bacteria start to grow. Finally, if you are using a wort chiller, make sure it is sanitized before using it.
Yes, you can use a glycol chiller to cool wort. A glycol chiller is a great way to cool your wort quickly and efficiently.
Yes, you can use ice to cool wort. It is a common practice to do so, especially when you are brewing in hot weather. The main thing to remember is that you need to use enough ice to lower the temperature of the wort to pitching temperature, which is around 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit. You don't want to use too much ice, as this can cause the wort to become too cold and result in off-flavors in your beer.

Because I don't drink much, I usually only buy a case, which lasts me for a while. I keep it in the basement, then periodically bring a few up and put them in the refrigerator so I'll always have some on hand and cool. The issue is that I'm stuck with warm beer if I forget to carry any up and there isn't any in the fridge. This cleverly useful device fills that role admirably.I simply put them in the freezer to keep them so that, in the unlikely event that I do forget to put any beer in the refrigerator, I can simply pop one of these in and have a refreshing beverage in a matter of minutes. Sincerely, this is the ideal option for situations in which you either want to swiftly chill a drink or simply keep it chilled for a longer period of time. The bottle opener on the end is an even more convenient addition, saving you from having to tear apart the kitchen drawer in search of that misplaced opener. Sincerely, I'm impressed and intend to use these sticks a lot.

I'm overjoyed about this. Inexperienced brewer; only used it once, yesterday. It cost around what 50' of copper tubing would have cost me for an assembled setup. Details are as follows: No, there isn't much wrapping at all, but it arrived in flawless condition. Although the stems (inlet and outflow) are short, if you are concerned about wort spilling over the side of the pot, gently bend the entire neck. Additionally, if you are concerned about leaks, purchase a few more hose clamps and use two per connection (alternate their orientation). It's also crucial to gently heat the hose before placed it onto the copper so that when the clamps are tightened, they will crush it down.In use, I discovered that it cooled more quickly with a lower water flow (saving water), and that vigorously stirring the wort with the cooler is also very helpful. Up and down, side to side, in fact.. the outflow would be colder if I left it alone, but the outflow tube would heat up quickly if I moved it around. That is the wort's heat dissipating. I didn't time it because I was too busy working on it, but it felt like it took around five or ten minutes to cool a whole 20 qt kettle below 80 F.One more thing: I used Star-San to sanitize my cooler before usage rather of putting it in the boiling water 15 to 20 minutes before it was done. The reason I did this was because I was performing the boil upstairs in the kitchen while I had my cooler set up in the basement sink (where I had working plumbing). It looked like a smart idea to get rid of the dangling hoses and complications that came with bringing a full kettle down stairs. I don't understand the big issue about that, and it actually seemed to make my life easier, save from the use of some Star-San (and avoid preheating the copper, which is just more mass to cool)If I were to upgrade in size, I'd buy this again in a hurry and am confident that it would quickly cool larger amounts as well. However, I doubt I will have to!

I don't understand why it's taking so long for folks to cold their beer. In less than 10 minutes, I cooled 5.5 gallons from boiling to 75 degrees... Perhaps they should increase the flow in some way. To expedite the process, I also ran the water from the cooler onto the outside of the kettle. Perhaps this made a significant difference for me. Since I also reside in Portland, perhaps my groundwater is cooler than average. I'm not sure... The 12.5" copper that I own performs admirably. Other than needing a couple turns when they arrived, I'm satisfied with my purchase of the hose clamps.

Received as ordered, excellent shipping, and good pricing. It takes around 5 minutes to cool a 5-gallon boil to pitching temperature.Unfortunately, there was a lot of force on the pipe clamps on the vertical section of the one I received because the coils were slightly under-wound. The pipe clamps burst off like bullets 10 minutes after I introduced the chiller to the wort during the last 15 minutes of the boil, which is how I learned this on my first use (one pinging off the pot right in the wort, scaring the bejeezus out of me in the process). When that happened, the object relaxed into a position where the verticals were on either side of the coils. It was restored to working order with little light torque and four pipe clamps that cost $2. If you purchase one (which I still do), I advise adding a few more clamps just in case.

Yes, you can whirlpool with an immersion chiller. This will help to circulate the wort and chill it evenly.
No, you don't need a wort chiller to brew beer. You can use a simple immersion chiller or a counterflow chiller.
The size of wort chiller you need depends on the batch size of your brewing system. For example, a 1/2 barrel (15 gallon) system would require a 1/2" x 50' wort chiller.
Commercial breweries use a variety of methods to chill wort. Some breweries use a heat exchanger, while others use a plate chiller. Plate chillers are more efficient than heat exchangers, but they are also more expensive.
A wort chiller is a device used in homebrewing to cool boiled wort to a desired temperature before pitching yeast. The device consists of a heat exchanger, usually made of copper, through which cold water is circulated. As the water flows through the exchanger, it picks up heat from the wort, cooling it in the process.
A wort chiller is a device used to cool boiling wort quickly and efficiently. By running cold water through the chiller, the wort is cooled to pitching temperature in a matter of minutes. This is important because it prevents the formation of off-flavors and bacteria in the wort.
