I purchased the 12" grab bar to put it over a stud vertically. There is no way to access a lengthy screw on the inside of the bar because the mounting plate is welded to it (see pictures). I was hoping to use at least 4 of the 6 stainless steel screws given because the design did have some screw holes that were somewhat off the centerline.Sadly, even that line is still too near the bar. To prevent them from breaking out, the 2 inch long, #10 phillips head screws must be installed directly into the center of the 2x4 stud. My drill bit reamed out the middle of the inside screw head even with a pilot hole, so I ultimately had to remove it with vice grip pliers. I was not content.Surprisingly, the bar just required the two screws at the end of the bar to mount securely to the walls. I made the decision to put up with the bar because I just use it for balance. The trim plates fit together perfectly, and the finished installation at least seems sturdy and has a professional appearance.The cost is exceptional. If you're placing it in a position other than horizontally, you might want to think about using a different grasp bar due to the rigid, welded mounting plate.

The mounting plate is welded to the bar, making it impossible to access a long screw on the inside of the bar (see pictures), but the design did include some screw holes that were slightly offset from the centerline, so I was hoping to use at least 4 of the 6 stainless steel screws that were included on the offset line.Even with a pilot hole, my drill bit reamed out the center of the inside screw head, and in the end I had to extract it with vice grip pliers. Unfortunately, even that line is still too close to the bar. The 2 inch long, #10 phillips head screws have to install straight into the center of the 2x4 stud so they don't break out.Since I'm only using the bar for balance, I chose to deal with the fact that it only needed two screws to connect securely to the drywall. The trim plates snapped into place with ease, and the finished installation looks good.professional and, at the very least, powerful.Although the pricing is excellent, if you're placing it in a position other than horizontal, you might want to think about using an alternative grasp bar due to the rigid, welded mounting plate.
