Unfortunately, the thickness and type of stainless steel utilized weren't mentioned in the product description. Although relatively thin, this cap is probably sufficient for its intended function. It is also spot welded, so I hope the welds withstand the salty air and atmosphere of Florida. We'll wait a few months before checking in to see if it still looks like a "Forever" cap. It took only a few minutes to install, was simple to do, and included with the necessary screws. It looks fine and isn't as tall as the picture makes it look, so that's good.

Due to another evaluation, I also made the decision to drill into the bricks to ensure that this structure wouldn't move during a windstorm. Here's what I discovered. My measurements when I put this bugger on were 16.5 by 20 and 3/4. The 17x21 was obviously the closest fit I could find. It was intended for this "Forever Cap" to be just that. Play it nonstop. The flanges neatly positioned themselves on top of the chimney and scraped over the brickwork. I created my holes after inserting my smaller "pilot" bit. It was simple to do with the help of my hammer drill and some WD-40 on the masonry bit. (10 total. However, they only come with 8, so either buy two more at your neighborhood hardware store or omit the center ones on the sides.I discovered that a large blast of wind would not have been sufficient after attempting to pull this thing back off. I attempted to use my rubber mallet, but it was desperately clinging on! In the end, I had to peel the edge away from the brickwork with the claw hammer. To prevent this from happening again, I flattened the inner flanges against the side.I don't want to have to go through that chaos once more when it's time for me to clean the chimney! I completed the holes with a quarter-inch bit while the chimney cap was off, then I put it back on. I could now play as the flanges were completely flattened against the interior. like a half-inch on the sides and a quarter-inch on the ends. With a little effort, I was able to attach all 8 bolts after using my pilot bit to locate the drilled hole for lining up. I like how the threaded holes on the top hold the bolt firmly in place. Since I have the extra area, I believe I could add a bolt to the back side if they ever peel.If it is used frequently, I intend to clean my chimney once a year. At the very least, I want to periodically check to see if creosote has accumulated. Since it burns wood, I'd like to hit it in stage one and attempt to avoid stage two at all costs. And it's right in the middle of my house. Great for warming up the flu, but this configuration wouldn't work for a chimney fire! Not the 8 bolts and 10 holes, but the lack of accurate information about this is what caused me to deduct a star. Although it's a terrific cap, you should be able to take it off when necessary. Anyone may easily confuse the name "Forever Cap" and the style. It seems to be made to be worn and then left on. I'm glad I completed my research on chimney fire causes and discovered what I did. I've observed individuals with wood stoves stoking the fire with domestic cardboard and other types of waste. I was completely ignorant of creosote and its formation. I now understand how to construct a fire in it, the value of seasoned wood, and how to avoid accumulation. Anyone who needs this product is highly encouraged to conduct a Google search on this worthwhile instruction!Also, it's bigger than I anticipated! For some strange reason, even after examining the chimney, taking measurements with the tape measure, and being aware of the size, it was shocking to see the box and it. To make sure I was sent the correct one, I measured it. Simply said, it is large.
