Because of a severe flat area on one side of her skull, my newborn girl was advised at one month old that she would need a helmet. However, they stated that they wouldn't fit her till she was 6 months old due to the additional weight of the helmet. It is soft, and our infant seems to like it, so far, so good! Since I've only had it for a few weeks, I can't really say whether it is improving the flatness of her tiny head just yet. Just to be clear, this cannot be washed, so if you are worried about getting it too dirty, I suggest obtaining a cover for it. Drool and spit up from my infant have been removed with a little moist cloth. Our pediatrician is okay with it as long as we limit its use to supervised daytime naps. Since she is only two months old right now, she dislikes having pillows for sleep. Because it feels a little warmer when I touch it after pulling the pillow off, which is probably normal for any pillow to feel after use, I deducted one star from the comfort rating. I suppose that for myself, I simply prefer pillows that are cooler. Although she has been using it every day for a few weeks, it does appear to be pretty soft, and so far, it has retained its shape. I also enjoy that it makes it easier for her to remain in one location. With the kicking and all, I've observed that when she naps with the pillow, she likes to drift about quite a bit and occasionally ends up too close to the bars of the crib, and I really don't want her to hit them. But the fact that the cushion has stopped has been helpful. So far, I enjoy it!

This pillow is wonderful! It greatly hindered our ability to purchase a helmet! We had to take her to a specialist since her ears were moved and uneven, and her back left side was flattened. They granted me a month to adjust my position, etc., after which I had to return and perhaps pick up a helmet. I got this as a present for a baby shower. To make sure it was what I wanted and expected, I reasoned that I should take it out. I can confirm that it is made of a very soft material, and the memory foam is also very soft. I can definitely see how this could be useful in preventing an infant's head from being too flat. It also functions as a small nursing pillow. Even though it isn't particularly firm, memory foam is incredibly soft.
