For my Tahoe, I got this along with a Clarion unit, and the installation was simple. The simplest thing I've ever done, maybe. No tools are required to remove the Tahoe dash, and this dash kit has the same identical release tabs as the stock unit. Simply press the tabs down to remove the unit from the dash. With your aftermarket stereo, slide the new unit in until you hear and feel the tabs securing it into place. You've finished. Reinstall the dash panel. It took me less than five minutes to install this. It attaches flush, just like the OEM audio did, giving it a very classy, refined appearance. Some dash kits I've had had the audio sticking out by about an inch, and that looks ludicrous. Not this one though; it's excellent for the money. Anyone looking to install an aftermarket head unit in their car should take my advice and do this.

On my 2008 Silverado 2500HD LTZ, this interface and the appropriate harnesses allowed me to preserve all of the factory amenities. It needs to be computer flashed or configured to your particular car and OEM choices. By presenting you with alternatives using drop-down menus particular to your vehicle and all the other possible factory settings, the website does a wonderful job of helping you through the setup. ensures that you choose the appropriate alternatives by using real images of original steering wheels. It also includes genuine images of each item for reference and asks for the precise model of your aftermarket head unit. If you know what options your vehicle has, setup only takes a few minutes. The connectors on either side of the interface, which makes for a somewhat less tidy installation, is the one thing I didn't like about it. To assist the installation be a little bit neater and less bulky, I shifted the stock harnesses around. I was unsure about one harness, so I called the manufacturer, and their customer service and technical help were excellently swift. I wasn't at all on hold. Just dialed the number for tech support and waited a short while for someone with flawless English to answer the phone. I wasn't questioned about my purchase history, including the time and place of my purchases or any serial numbers. I only needed the head unit and vehicle information, and it took approximately 4 minutes for it to respond to all of my queries. The caller even offered to walk me through the functions of my head unit. This interface allows you to preserve all of your original features and even adds some extras when used with the proper harnesses (Gages that read vehicle info from OBDII port if your head unit supports it). Please be aware that the installation benefits from having at least a small amount of technical knowledge. A professional installer might be needed if this is your first time installing an aftermarket head unit.

Since the stock CD player in my 2003 Silverado stopped working about a year ago, I've been getting by with the radio only because I didn't want to hire someone to install a new audio. I recently mentioned this to someone, and they remarked on how simple it is to lift the dash plate off. Wow, I felt so foolish! Anyway, after discovering this and realizing what needed to be done, I went to Amazon and bought this adaptor. Let me tell you, I couldn't be happy about something so easy and cheap. The installation of the new stereo head (a Sony from Amazon) was simple and flawless. Everything in the dash lined up flawlessly thanks to the provided shims and properly aligned holes. I now have a pocket for a CD or my Droid while using it as the music source. There are no gaps, everything is hard like OEM.

On my 2001 Ford Taurus, I used this to remove the radio/heater control panel. On my first attempt, I failed miserably. When I changed the direction of insertion, I was able to release the right side, but I was still unable to release the left. Then I took the tool I'd used on that side and placed it into the left side to prevent the right side from snapping back in. It took a lot of wrangling, but it eventually came loose.When you remove the unit, you'll notice that a piece of spring steel located on the outside of the radio is being pressured by the points of these removal tools. When you remove the radio/heater control unit, the spring clip squeezes inward and snaps back outward to hold the control unit in place. The tool's tips are concave (cupped) on one side and convex (bumped) on the other. Make sure the convex (bumped) side is facing the radio and not outward. This enables it to make touch with the spring clip inside and enables you to squeeze the clip slightly inward when you draw the removal tool outward.The ambiguity of the word "curved," which is used in the directions, is a concern. The removal tools' instructions instructed users to "Insert both tips (with curved tips facing inward) into the slots in the face of the radio." curved, but which way is it curving? Convex or concave? You now understand the solution.Another suggestion is to feel when the tool's tip makes contact with the spring clip. You "may" hear a click when contact is established, according to the instructions, and I did on one side. On the other side, I didn't hear it, but if I paid intently, I could feel it. Knowing how far into the removal should be put is also helpful. This will undoubtedly change depending on the application. Before it made adequate contact with the spring clip on my 2001 Taurus, the tool had to be inserted approximately two-thirds of the way. I attempted to replicate the proper insertion distance on the challenging left side after learning it on the successful side. After a few nervous seconds, I managed to get it right. If you persist, you will probably succeed.

I initially used Metra item 99-6500, which suited my Dodge Ram 3500 Van perfectly but provided no further support other than the steel bracket holding the deck to a flimsy plastic frame. It functioned okay with a low-cost aftermarket deck, but when I installed a heavier (and more powerful) deck, the warping of the plastic frame caused the deck to shake so much that CD playback became unreliable. It twisted so dramatically that the deck's orientation was incorrect, pointing 10-15 degrees upward. This is unfortunate given the state of my city's streets after a snowy winter because we are nothing but potholes.First off, this dash kit is built on a plastic frame that is considerably stronger and nearly three times as thick as the original. The supplied tray also provides a sturdy backside support, giving the deck something sturdy to sit on (it is "welded" on and cannot be removed).The only drawback is that there are no included places to tie the deck to the tray for additional support. Nevertheless, it only took me five minutes and a Dremel-style saw to turn two of the unnecessary holed tabs into braces that applied tension against the deck bracket to stop the deck from rising during bounces (above what the vehicle sees). We are now rock solid thanks to some more work with another removed component (the X braces that occupy the deck space and must be removed before a deck can be built) and a few self-tapping screws. Since this kit is quite versatile and wasn't particularly designed for truck installation, Metra isn't to blame for the extra effort, but I did deduct one star for the inconvenience. There are nicer kits out there that come with back braces and more support, but they almost certainly cost a lot more money.This fits perfectly after installation, leaves no gaps, and has the desired appearance. Although the exposed parts of the frame could have benefited a finer surface texture, the deck I selected has a big high-gloss frame that covers the majority of the area (apart from the pocket) and the installation looks very tidy and professional overall.The deck didn't skip once during a brief ride along the street that my house is on (which was once a street but is now just a collection of connected holes), proving that the goal was successful!

decent tiny kitI got this to put in my 2007 Ranger to install my new Pioneer AVH-501EX. Now that I had removed a small amount of plastic from my dashboard bezel insert, this fit like a glove made of rubber. The only issue was actually fitting the stereo into my truck's detachable dashboard bezel after adding the Metra kit. It was an extremely, extremely tight fit once the two side parts were fitted into the stereo. However, it finally clicked into place after some prodding and pressure. Despite my fears, I was not able to break anything. Undoubtedly, that won't change. It's a good thing it's affordable. I believe I might have to take off the dash bezel once more and use my Dremel to cut the Metra kit off if I ever need to change the stereo.However, it did fit and function as promised. Crutchfield has also suggested it, so I knew it was the ideal component for my truck.It's a good investment for the new radio in your car.

Great performance in my 2005 F250. Given that there are so many different radios available, each with a little different fitment and form, I gave it a rating of 5 stars since it is about as good as it can be for the price.Even without any alterations, it worked really well with my Atoto Android double din radio. I did file part of the dash kit's bottom and sides, and the top could use a small amount of shimping to be absolutely right. In order for the bottom to come out flush with the dash, I also need to shim the bottom where it bolts in. It's not perfect, but it's good, and it's far easier than trying to line the metal brackets that come with radios, so I'll wait on all that until the next time I pull the radio. The bolts on this are perfectly aligned for side-to-side and top-to-bottom installation. The radio face's position in relation to the bezel is the only thing that might require some adjusting. Despite the fact that double din radios don't adhere to a strict standard, it is not the dash kit's fault. Typically, some adjusting is required to make it ideal.

Nearly flawless, simple to setup. The only issue is that the top of the dash won't have anything for the old dash cover clips to latch into any longer. Apart from that, it made my installation appear factory-fresh in that regard.
