I finally bought Dorman brand bump stops to replace my old ones. My 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD has a noticeably better ride, which is a big improvement. The suspension in your car depends on these inexpensive components. If your current bump stops exhibit any symptoms of deterioration or old age, I would strongly suggest replacing them.

These were purchased to replace the deteriorated stock suspension jounce bumpers. Be aware that these are NOT bump stops. Actually, they are an active component of the suspension that gives the torsion bar suspension a progressive function.I figured they would be a little stiffer, so I wanted the Z71 version. They were simple to squeeze in my hand. I only had one decent OE standard one, and it was pretty firm.It was simple to install; simply pry out the old one and work some lubricant—soap, windex, spit, whatever—into the frame cup. I press the lip with the weight of the suspension on it into the center using the edge of a flat screwdriver. I didn't have to jack up the truck, and it took approximately 5 minutes on each side.Although I haven't put many miles on them yet, it seems to have addressed the left-to-right unevenness (one was seriously busted, the other wasn't).

Although they don't seem like much, these do improve the ride quality. The originals were still on my 2002 Avalanche, and they were in bad shape. With some lubrication and a flat blade screwdriver, installation is simple. For safety, the front tyres of both sides have been installed; to reach the region, simply turn the wheels.

I had no idea how much a 2003 C2500 Burb's handling would be affected by a lack of bump stops. I reasoned that the broken ones didn't matter as long as I wasn't bottoming out because, as you can see in Jared's photo, mine looked identical. There is no longer any rattling or clanking, and the front end appears to be more firmly planted on the ground. I don't know if these should cost $70, but they did the job. I have only driven around the neighborhood since I installed these, but the steering feels more steady and heavy, which is what I was seeking for, similar to my 2001 K1500 Silverado. Before installing these, the steering appeared jittery. We are hoping that the handling will be better when we tow our travel trailer.

My 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 Crew Cab fits well with these awesome OEM bump stops. For a very long time, my ride suffered until I found my factory bump stops were damaged and no longer worked. Until I fitted these bump stops, I actually avoided all potholes, bumps, and other alterations in the road. I can now easily navigate curbs, potholes, and bumps thanks to the installation. The front end of my truck has been slightly raised, and the ride quality has increased 100-fold. Every time I ride now, I grin.

The 2000 Suburban 1500 4WD with Auto-ride suspension is the ideal fit. The best access is to jack up the front and enter through the space between the front tires. The older ones required some effort to remove because they were disintegrating when I pryed with a huge flat-blade screwdriver. But I managed to free them at last by firmly pressing the blade behind them and prying. By angling the new ones to fit under two of the retaining "stays" and then using a screwdriver to compress the bumper material slightly to fit under the remaining two, the replacement ones slid in rather simply. For comparison, the time it took me to jack up the car and set the jackstands was longer than the time it took to repair the bumpers.February 16, 2019 Update: Since repairing my deteriorating bumpers, I have noticed a significant improvement in the ride and handling. The trip became increasingly "floaty" as time went on since mine simply grew old and physically dissolved away. My Suburban "rolled" a touch too much in the corners and sank at stops. In fact, I had been looking at new shocks. The car no longer floats, dips, or rolls excessively now that the new bumpers are in place, and I genuinely feel much more in control. All of this, in my opinion, is due to the fact that these bumpers—which are intended to support the weight of the car and are actually an integral element of the suspension rather than simply serving as a barrier between metal and metal when the car bottoms out. They seem to have been created to cooperate with the shocks and springs. The suspension would always stretch when I jacked up the car to work on it, so I was never aware that the car was intended to ride on the bumpers. I wish I had changed them years ago.In a way, I'm relieved that buying new auto-ride shocks will cost so much. Otherwise, I might have wrongly changed my shocks only to discover later that the worn-out bumpers were a significant contributor to my issue. Before you do anything else, I advise replacing your bumpers if they are eroded. It might save you a ton of money and headaches!



Dorman 31064 Help Control Arm Bumper Review:


These are outstanding. My 2000 Bravada's ones were almost entirely ruined. These made a tremendous difference over bumps when I put them, and it was wonderful! The only drawback was installing them. Use a screwdriver to remove the old bumper off the car, but leave the bolts holding the frame it was in to the car in place. After a little lubrication, simply fit the new bumper into the old frame that is already attached to the car. They will fit with a little elbow grease.
