With wind, snow, and temperatures below zero, this winter has been difficult. I provide food for my wild birds as well as the squirrels. And while the tiny guys are well-fed, I wanted to increase their protein intake. I tried other specialty foods for squirrels, but they didn't seem to enjoy them; nonetheless, these walnuts are a big favorite. According to the label, this thick plastic container bag is a "Product of USA," made in California, and although though it initially appeared to contain a lot of walnut "dust," the walnuts are almost exclusively halves, not pieces. And they are tasty.I love walnuts and always have some on hand for cooking and eating. I took a chance by ordering these "Happy Belly" walnuts because my usual suppliers were either out of stock or had unexpectedly increased prices. I honestly anticipated that they would be of inferior quality because of their low cost per pound and speedy arrival at my front door. I was mistaken; they're fantastic!If I were to give these walnuts any criticism, it would be that they are crunchier than I would anticipate from raw walnuts and have a distinct nut skin flavor, both of which I would attribute to the "steam pasteurized" procedure.Overall, though, I really appreciate the taste, the fact that they are a USA-made product, the fact that most of the halves in the bag were whole, and even though the flavor isn't quite what I expected from raw walnuts, I still really like it. These walnuts are without a doubt the best I've ever had. They taste great and are deliciously fresh. You may experience some problems after eating these walnuts since you may come to the realization that you have been cheated on walnuts your entire life. You realize that the foods you have been consuming from the grocery store, health food store, or gourmet shop are stale, smell vaguely rancid, and are inedible nuts. Although it makes me feel a little strange, I now enjoy a handful or more of the greatest walnuts I've ever eaten every day. I adore eating them in a variety of ways, including porridge, crumbled into pasta with pesto (and parmesan), straight hand-to-mouth, and with dark chocolate. As long as they are not fried into anything, I adore walnuts. When I do discover walnuts that are out of their shells and have a fresh flavor, I usually consume them too quickly and they disappear. I can't control myself in those situation. In-the-shell walnuts make it easier for me to consume less calories and help me enjoy a more nutritious snack. The issue is that they are only offered during the holiday season. Although I wasn't really expecting much because I kind of thought of walnuts as being out of season in July, I was extremely happy to discover these available. None of them are roasted. For the lowest price found online, they are good and came in a sealed bag. They taste fresh, right? Since it is a raw nut, not really. They don't taste as fresh as if you just cracked them open. Many educated people have posted negative online reviews after getting raw almonds and been shocked that they are a touch squishy. As long as their pricing is the same, I will order them again.
