I will have $7 added to my current account each month, with the option to cancel at any time and reactivate at any time. If you are not a current customer, I am not sure what the fee is. For an extra $9 at the time, I was able to acquire a 4-year Square Trade warranty for my own peace of mind. The setup largely matched the descriptions in other reviews. The most time was spent trying to reach dish for queries and not being able to reach the right person to get an answer or turn on the receiver. Once the receiver was turned on, everything happened quite quickly. I would repurchase this. In order to pause and/or record programming, I'm thinking of adding a hard drive for my DVD player. Dish was chosen as a test since it can be used in an RV month to month. DirecTV ought to have realised this. It worked great when I tried it during a one-month trip to West Virginia. This winter, we'll activate our membership when we go for a three-month trip. use an antenna that was previously configured for DirecTV, a RoadTrip T4. Other than a little Googling, switching over was simple. used a used USB 1 TB hard disc from a notebook to power the DVR. There were smiles all around because Dish waived the DVR cost.

I needed to replace the amplifier on my directional antenna with a rotor because it had failed, so I bought an omnidirectional antenna instead so I wouldn't have to constantly spinning it to obtain a clear picture. When there is a decent storm, my dish network loses signal, but I can switch to the HD antenna and continue watching TV. I had some reservations about how the omnidirectional antenna would perform and the quality of the image I would receive. To my amazement, though, I also got an excellent picture and 3 extra channels in comparison to what I was getting from the directional antenna. The installation process was incredibly simple, and I'm quite happy with the response I'm getting. This amplified omnidirectional antenna comes highly recommended. I receive all local stations because my satellite dish has lost signal, allowing me to stay informed about the storms in the area. I receive a total of 11 channels, and I'm really happy with how simple installation and reception were. The installation instructions called for mounting it 30 feet above the ground, but my pole was only 25 feet high, and 25 feet worked just fine. Although I'm in the Georgia highlands, I believe that this antenna would perform well and receive a lot more channels if it were closer to a city.

This receiver is without a doubt the finest bargain for viewing HD content with Dish.Excellent picture quality, minimal power draw, and small profile. When I began experiencing issues with a vip211k after three years or so, I purchased this as a replacement.An improved version of the VIP211k is the VIP211z. Essentially the same features, although a few older output connections are missing. The VIP211z only has a composite (yellow, white, and red) output for SD and an HDMI output for HD. No coaxial, component, or optical audio output. Additionally, the VIP211Z lacks a phone line input and a dish home channel. With my vip211k, I never utilized any of that, therefore I no longer miss them.The VIP211z has one significant improvement that I've noticed: when you press search, looking up program titles is completed fairly immediately.The trick is now revealed. The fact that Dish doesn't really market to consumers, in my opinion, is what makes this receiver the greatest deal. Without paying a monthly charge, you can plug in your own USB hard drive and use it as an HD DVR. I paid the $40 one-time price with my older VIP211k, which I did many years ago. Therefore, the new 211Z also offers free DVR if you have a VIP211k and have enabled the DVR. The one-time price also applies to all 211 items on your account. As a result, other rooms may also receive free DVR service.Yes, there is only one tuner, so you can't record three or six programs at once, but to be honest, it would be a little overkill. You can just record a clashing show or movie in the early morning hours because the cable networks and premium channels routinely repeat shows.You may record for many hours by connecting a 2TB HDD. Save many films and TV series... Set up some season passes on your dish for the actors and series you enjoy, and you'll always have entertaining programming to watch. This replaced an unamplified, five times larger antenna that was thirty years old. I reasoned that this would draw in roughly the same number of channels on the same pole at a distance of 20 feet.I was able to pick up every low power uhf station, however the much closer, higher power vhf networks were iffy. When directly pointed at, the strongest station on channel 10 was pixelated from around 14 miles distant. I threw away the coax that was included because, as another reviewer recommended, it was just somewhat better. To find out how much signal I lost without any amplification, I removed the power supply from the rotor/amplifier box. Whammy!! Funny how every channel was crystal clear! The idea is interesting, and the antenna was cheap, but I'll be investing in a "true" amplifier to install in-line in order to bring in the farthest stations I used to receive. And unlike the previous one, I don't see this one lasting me 30 years. Lesson learned: Buying individual parts is generally preferable.** Update: Without my even asking for it, the purchase money was immediately refunded. The customer service is decent, and I believe I may have just received a faulty product.

I can only watch TV over the air or via satellite because I reside in a remote location. My home already had a satellite dish on the roof and cable running up to it when I moved in. The connection from the roof to the splitter is about 50 feet. I then connected an additional 100 feet of wire from the splitter to the power unit, and I was pleased to see that I could still power it up and spin the antenna. So I'm able to attest that 150' of cable will work to power the antenna.I was thrilled to notice that after extending the new coax to my basement TV, there were now more than 50 channels available! Since I invested in a DVR, I can now watch all of my favorite network TV shows for free.The only issue I have is the cheap 30' coax that came with it; for some reason, it wouldn't connect to the power unit; it simply slid over the female end and wouldn't tighten, but I will note that it connects to other female coax ends, such as those on my TV and wall socket. The unit's female coax end is compatible with other male coax ends. It's pretty strange that the coax that comes with it doesn't fit the device that it's supposed to go on, but again, the coax ends appear very cheap and are low profile. If you need to connect it, I recommend obtaining your own instead of using the coax that comes with it.
