As long as you are aware of the trade-offs between these and Brita's other filters, these filters work well. Brita did achieve in accelerating water flow, but the water is still far from free-flowing and the amount of impurities it filters is less than their conventional filters. However, it likely performs well enough that most people will still be content.The flow rate comes first. It's a heavy drip, if you ask me. It's not great, but it's better than pouring from a conventional pitcher or the flow from a sink. To give you an idea, I'd say it's comparable to the water dispenser found inside a refrigerator. Although it does become noticeably slower as the pitcher approaches empty, this is not a big concern because you can immediately refill it. For what it's worth, I've also seen that the flow rate varies significantly from filter to filter.It's important to note that this only really filters out chlorine when it comes to filtering performance. Is that relevant? Most likely not. Most of the bad taste in municipal water is probably caused by chlorine. This will probably work if that's all you care about (although the traditional filters seem to work slightly better in my experience). But if you're in a more aged structure, you might be worried about other toxins like lead or mercury. Then, this filter won't be of any use to you. (You should probably use Brita's Longlast filter, which is the company's only filter capable of removing lead.)Do these merit the effort? Well, probably if your roommates are slackers or if you consistently forget to replenish the pitcher until you're thirsty. Unless you reside in a structure with old plumbing, in which case you would wish to avoid it.

September 2019 updateI've used this pitcher for more than two years. The replacement filters appear to need replacing more frequently. Even buying clean water is becoming prohibitively expensive. The filter is of outstanding quality, however Aquagear, PLEASE create one that can operate continuously for more than two months. In 1-3 days it slows down from fast filtering to hardly allowing a single drip through. a sharp fall I obstinately use the tool that is intended to clear the filter, but it does not function (they have never worked for me).—My Aqua Gear pitcher's original filter lasted a lot longer than this replacement. It functions flawlessly for a few weeks before filtering all but ceases. I may have a significant quantity of debris to filter out of my water because I live in Brooklyn, but it seems absurd to spend $50 on a new one of these so frequently. I wished it had lasted a lot longer.But when it does filter water, the difference in taste, clarity, and quality is unmistakable. Now that I know how amazing tap water CAN taste with this device, I can't even stand to drink it. So purchase it, but be ready to replace it on a frequent basis. One more thing: don't throw away your old filters because the provider will give you a bag to recycle them.

After you purchase an o-ring to seal them, they function nicely. I installed a thin rubber o-ring around the filter (most hardware stores offer these) that is reusable (I've had one o-ring for 7 filters so far) after observing the problem others have with water seeping AROUND the filter instead of through it and making sure it was firmly seated. As I press the filter in, the o-ring strengthens the seating and SEALS the filter, forcing water through it. Purchase a narrow one; it must fit between the filter and the insert area's wall. I positioned the ring approximately 3/4 of the way down "I push the filter in from the top and can feel the o-ring "rolling" up the filter as I do so, securing it firmly and tightly. **See images. About a two "O-rings are affordable. Brita should adopt this strategy and provide a tiny o-ring with each pitcher or 3 pack.I believe those who are whining about the water's quality are unaware that the filter is leaking and the water isn't actually being filtered. I can tell it's working since the water takes MUCH longer to get through the filter after the O-Ring.
