I was finally able to find these after being taken advantage of at Wal-Mart (Purchase 2 discs and get a new plastic holder for the same price as these).The Mr.Coffee brand filters and these have NO DIFFERENCE. Here are images of an old Mr. Coffee brand filter and one made by this company.I promise never to purchase filters from the store again. This filter is being applied to the GE Model # GX1S01R housing. Although there is no advice to use this filter on my filter housing, it is OK. This should work with any 10" water filter housing, in my opinion. The filtration works fine. It won't filter the extremely small particle. However, it filters out all of the water's audible detritus. This filter will clear up brown water, but the water won't be suitable for drinking.I will advise friends to utilize this item as the primary filter in their water filtration system.

This was purchased to complement my 3-stage whole-house water filtering system. This effectively cleans the water by combining a carbon filter with an iron reduction filter. has been in place for almost three months, and nothing has to be changed. Our well water smelled foul when we first moved into our new home. The Home Master HMF3SDGFEC Whole House 3 Stage Water Filtration System was what I purchased at that time. That system included this filter. Although the filters were already in the system, I nevertheless ordered more of each because I wasn't sure how long they would last. Not yet required to update them. My wife and I could not be happier with how wonderfully this filter and the filter system worked out; our water is clear and has no order. Please be aware that this sediment filter works best when used in conjunction with other filters; utilizing only one filter will not yield the optimum results. I think the iron reducing filter was what got rid of our smell, and this sediment filter works upstream to get rid of any silt and prolong the life of the finer filters downstream.

1. Don't rely on the replacement bulb in the fixture because it only has a 6-month timer and is based on the size and water usage of a typical family. Follow your taste; if there are only one or two of you, you may be able to add months to the program.2. Place a tray beneath the replacement unit to catch any spills.3. To remove, fully counterclockwise turn the cartridge one-fourth of the way, then use a screwdriver to pull down between the receiver and the engagement fins. Disengaging the sturdy o-rings that stop leaks is where removal gets stuck. As the recipient isn't strong enough for that, avoid yanking and wriggling. Pry.4. The new cartridge hasn't caused me any insertion issues, but evidently others have. Pushing up on the cartridge will ensure that the engagement fins are in contact with the threads. Hold the receiver firmly in your other hand; it is not sturdy or securely mounted to withstand much strain. Once the fins are in place, rotating the cartridge 1/4 turn clockwise should secure it.

These filters have been in use by me for around ten years, and I still adore them. I appreciate that I can look up when I purchased my previous one on Amazon to see if I need to replace it, and that Amazon offers a WAY better pricing than I can obtain locally. Being a two-person household, we can go over a year before needing another filling (it says a family of 4 can use it for a year IIRC). Our tap water tastes MUCH better thanks to this filter. I haven't tested for pathogens or anything, but I don't really care because I periodically check the city's water report, so I'm not too worried. I genuinely adore my Soma water dispenser. Prior to purchasing this pitcher and the water filters, I did a lot of research. The filter removes unpleasant substances like mercury, copper, zinc, and chlorine and is made of carbon from coconut shells with a plant-based covering. Good flavour. I appreciate that this filter is the only one available that can be composted. I don't hide it away like I used to with my Brita because the design is so attractive, which is actually encouraging me to drink more water. Great business. My Royal Berkey's PF-2 fluoride filters had to be replaced since I let them fully dry out while taking a break from using them. It is disappointing that this MAJOR CAVEAT is not made clearer for users, and I'm sure that many Berkey owners wind up using the dried-out filters once again unintentionally. Only after speaking with a Berkey support representative did I learn that PF-2 filters MUST be thrown away once they have had time to dry out. According to a further web search, you should remove PF-2 filters when not in use and store them in the refrigerator (not the freezer) for a limited amount of time to prevent drying out and to prevent pathogen growth on the medium. Before restarting use, you must flush them first, then reinstall. Once PF-2 filters are activated, primed, or wet once, the timer starts, and you must maintain the media wet and replace them after one year or 1,000 gallons of filtering, whichever comes first. This is unfortunate because many Berkey users purchase the pricey system to use as a backup survival system in case of an emergency in addition to filtering water on a daily basis.The complicated filter configuration needs to be followed very precisely. I actually decided to test another water filter instead of purchasing replacement PF-2 filters because there have been so many recent poor reviews for Berkey as a whole. That attempt, however, turned out to be a failure, so I went on to order the replacement PF-2 filters. Instead of the recommended 20 seconds x 2 past water running clear, I purged the fluoride filters for a total of 6 minutes (2 minutes x 3 changing the flow direction), and I made sure to turn the filters exactly 8 full revolutions. I also used a stronger thumb pressure on top of the faucet against the purging button to ensure complete water seal. I was genuinely concerned of puncturing the internal filter media screen while following the installation instructions for the full 8 rounds because there was some resistance to tightening at 6 1/2 revolutions, and the Berkey representative pointed out that's the cause of many reported difficulties. Although my PF-2 filtered water tested at 59 ppm for TDS and the water remained crystal pure, I may have been overzealous in my purging effort. The Berkey water tests at 79 ppm while the PF-2 filters are not installed (twice filtered with Filtrete Maximum).Since the filter was first introduced many years ago, Berkey really ought to have made improvements to the design to make it more reliable. I wanted new filters for the secondhand system I had bought at a thrift shop. Since Florence's flooding, we have experienced problems with our well, filters, RO, softener, and other aspects of our water system. We are do-it-yourselfers, so it was a process.
