My first electronic caller was a Hammerjack, and I've been pleased with it thus far. I've called in multiple fox and coyotes after using it for one season. I bought this toward the end of the hunting season. I've had a chance to try them, and the sound they generate is pretty true to the animal's actual voice. It won't get in the way while bow or gun hunting from the stand because it is compact and may fit on a lanyard or in a pocket. This year, I have not been able to call a bear in with it because I have not seen as many bears in the vicinity of my hunting grounds. I've brought in a curious coyote, and in my experience, if you can get a curious coyote inside, a bear will follow if it can hear you. Recommended.

I have placed a few of my own calls, and they have generally been successful. This is just great! Quail will respond with a call, scan their small area for the source of the noise, then bounce from branch to branch. This call has a fantastic lower pitch on one side. It imitates an intelligent, reserved elder bird calling out to see if anyone is nearby. Or it can sound like a distant bird calling. Say the word "hello" just once, and quickly! This is a feeler. After that, hit Hey and Chicago. That is a plausible build-up. No bird just bursts into noise unless it is overly enthusiastic. The pitch on the opposite side of the call is higher. Hey calls from one bird that I hear frequently are followed by Hey calls from other birds that are significantly higher in pitch. That is them conversing and letting the other know they can hear each other. They will gradually repeat more chi-ca-go phrases as they enthuse and tease one another with louder bursts of "hey" and "chi-ca-go." The longest call I've ever heard from a bird was two heys and five chi ca gos. Hope this was useful. Such a great call. I'd want to try out another call from this business!

I tested this call on the squirrels in my backyard and the nearby yards as soon as I unpacked it, and I immediately got a reaction. You MUST adhere to the directions on the packaging, but it DOES work! The call alone will attract the squirrels' attention, but you must also create the rustling noises in order to elicit a response and learn where they are. If you do that, you will see results.Simply put, the call itself is: a little, hollow flying saucer with a ring for the provided lanyard and holes in the top and bottom. You utilize it by inhaling, not exhaling, which results in a high-pitched whistle that strikingly resembles a squirrel distress call. I'm not one of those people, however I'm sure there are some that are capable of making that sound with their mouth. All you need to find those squirrels in the trees and the woods is this plus a barking type sound.

The old crow call is simpler to master than this one, therefore I deducted one rating from this one, but it's still a great call. I consider myself an expert at calling predators. In the 1970s, I first used a Johnny Steward record player before switching to Burnham Brothers mouth callers and a tape player. With its three speakers and variety of call varieties, the Alpha Dog is quite astounding. It is really noisy to play numerous sounds (Jack Rabbit, Cotton Tail) across the house at volume 1. Maybe I'm thinking out loud. I won't be sure until I use it in the field. Some people are unaware that a loud sound would sound odd up close and will just frighten the predator or whatever it is you're attempting to attract. In case any wildlife is nearby, calling should be done at the lowest volume for at least the first few minutes. Anyway, the major reason I'm eager to try this caller is that it's wireless and has three speakers to provide additional coverage. After it has been put to the test in the field, I'll update this review.

Apparently, I got this to play with in the hunting blind when I was bored, but I later discovered that it actually works if you blow on the open end, which sounds just like a fawn's destress call. Within 10 seconds after sitting the call down, 2 does came up over the hill and one came within 7 yards of my ground blind. This technique doesn't always work, I'm sure, and it's best used in the early part of the season when fawns are still with their mothers, but what pleasure it is when it does!

I just intended to use them to annoy my neighbours' dogs, who bark all day while I try to get some rest. I have a night job. As I leave for work in the morning, I stroll out onto the back porch at night, let out a howl, and then watch as the five dogs go completely crazy. I then hear the neighbours screaming at their dogs to stop barking. In the end, I used them to actually summon coyotes, and I suppose they are effective for that as well.

To make it sound more like a quail rather than a gazoo, tighten the rubber band before using. It doesn't sound exactly right, but I probably need to tighten the rubber band a little more to make it fit properly.Update: Once you have everything properly adjusted, it will function. To this simple call, quail do answer. My dog got all twisted up in the sage as I was calling with this device after it flushed up a covey and I missed them all. When I returned to hunting after taking the 7 minutes it took to disentangle her, 4 quail came to this call and flushed up precisely where I was.
If you want to call a coyote, you should be prepared to make a lot of noise. Coyotes are not easily intimidated, so you'll need to be assertive in your calling. Try to make yourself as big and loud as possible, and make sure the coyote can see you. If you're not comfortable getting close to a coyote, you can try calling from a distance. Just be aware that the coyote may not be able to hear you as well, and it may not be as effective.
You should call for a bear for as long as it takes for the bear to leave. If the bear does not leave, you should call for help.
