Chain door locks are not as effective as you might think. They can be easily cut with a pair of bolt cutters.
Chain locks are made of steel, which is harder to grind than other materials. The teeth on the chain are also difficult to grind down.
There are a few different types of bike locks, but the two most common are combination locks and key locks. Both have their pros and cons, but which one is better? Combination locks are more convenient because you don't have to worry about losing a key. They are also more difficult to pick, so they are more secure. However, if you forget the combination, you're out of luck. Key locks are less secure because they can be picked or cut. However, they are easier to use because you don't have to remember a combination. And if you
There is no simple answer to this question as it depends on a variety of factors. Kryptonite locks are generally considered to be high quality and effective, but there have been some reports of locks being defeated or picked. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to use a Kryptonite lock comes down to personal preference and the specific security needs of the individual.

I looked at a lot of locks before deciding on this one as a reasonable compromise between price and security. In the end, someone who really wants to steal a bike will figure out how to get past practically any lock. The cable on this, though, is quite thick, and cutting through it would undoubtedly require some powerful tools. The length is perfect for securing my bike to various items. It is long enough to wrap around a sturdy pole without being cumbersome. Since I carry it in my bag rather of having it linked to the bike, the fact that it naturally coils up neatly is a HUGE advantage. Because I now ride through a lot of mud and water and don't want it on the bike where it would accumulate a lot of muck and grime, I prefer to carry it separately from the bike. The lock can be set up extremely quickly. There are straightforward directions provided, which are easy to adhere to. I prefer the five-digit combination over four since it appears more secure.I usually always use this and am pleased with it because of its durability, portability, and usability. Definitely worth the cost!

The numerous times I've parked my bicycle in the city with a different cable for my wheels, I'm very sure it has avoided theft. Both how it appears and feels daunting. To create a strong fashion statement, I've been known to simply put it around my own neck. The unlocking function is highly unreliable, which is the only issue. I occasionally have no issues at all, and other times I feel like the burglar attempting to take my own bike. Do you recall the proverb that states it is folly to continue doing the same thing and expect different outcomes? That does, in fact, work with this lock. I'll keep turning the key until it decides to unlock on its own. Not the best feature while trying to escape on a bicycle from an approaching zombie apocalypse. However, after you unleash it, look out because it turns into quite the weapon. With this demon, I've been honing my nun-chuck techniques. makes ME dangerous and my bike safe.

You are aware of what you are getting into if you are purchasing this. It is large and heavy, but solid and nearly unbreakable. Although a little strange, the pick-resistant lock makes sense. I'm a city dweller who rides a pricey hardtail that I can't live without and can't afford to replace. It is secured with this lock.Be aware that it is substantial and heavy. It is difficult to carry and store while riding. However, there is a cost associated with having a lock like this, so you should be aware of that. Get a smaller lock if you can't handle a 12-pound chain's thickness. In terms of value, it is in fact just an industrial chain in a sleeve with a lock (similar to ones you may use to tether a boat or other item to a vehicle as a backup). Therefore, the entire price appears a little exorbitant, but it does have a good warranty, a nice protection plan, and it works.

For the price, this lock is excellent. I just occasionally need a lock when I go to the gym, and while I definitely wouldn't trust it to keep my belongings safe overnight in a dodgy neighbourhood, it works perfectly for such occasions. The combination number wheels are also big and easy to see. My road bike's top tube or seat post can be wrapped around the chain without fearing that it would scratch the surface because the chain is protected. I would buy again overall.

If you've ever had a bike theft attempt, or if you know how to stop one, this is the chain to use. When I discovered my previous chain, the cut had been made approximately halfway through, but for some reason the burglar did not complete the task. It's not that they couldn't because the chain was barely still intact. I then replied that I had paid too much for my bike in order to play this game. I must take action and acquire a reliable lock. But Christ, I thought to myself, those thick, expensive kryptonite locks are so heavy. Some of them weigh 15 lbs, which makes it impossible for me to carry them around all the time. Come on in, model chain. This is Kryptonite's lightest and best-designed version of its heavy-duty "maximum security" chain. Let's start out by being upfront about it. Yes, any chain can eventually be broken if the burglar has the balls and the time to do it in broad daylight. Steel can be melted by a screaming plasma cutter, and I imagine you could cut any lock that is physically produced if you somehow attached one to your truck and walked outside in the middle of the night. The New York "Series 4" locks and the Kryptonite New York "fuggetaboutit" level locks are the best available security short of that. They are "nearly" impossible to cut through since they are made of manganese rather than steel. You also need to understand the thief's mindset, which is one of speedy theft. They don't want to set up shop in front of your bike and try to steal it by sitting down. This is the maximum level of protection available, keeping that in mind. It is rated as having the highest level of security (11 out of 12) and offers the maximum amount of recompense ($3500 for your bike if the lock is cut). Now add the notion that it is a noose. Simply said, brilliant. When these chains weigh as much as they do, this design essentially doubles the chainlength without increasing the weight, which is HUGE. The most appropriate weight I will transport on my bike is this chain, which weighs roughly 6 pounds. In fact, when I use it, I wrap the chain around the top tube so that I don't even notice it unless I'm leaping my bike over hurdles. As you might expect, the noose design transforms this 2.25' (not 2.5' as the title indicates; I'm not sure why they advertise that) and practically provides you as much chain length from your bike to bike rack as a 4 foot chain would. Your bike could only actually be 2' away from the rack because a typical 4' chain would need to wrap in a circle and you'd need to link both ends. By looping or "noosing" this chain around the rack, passing it through your back tire (always), and locking it to your seat tube or down tube, you may also create a distance of 2' between yourself and the rack. See the image I posted. This chain ultimately offers me the best of both worlds. Despite being lighter and closer to weaker locks, the New York locks have great security and are challenging to cut. Strongly advised, and I would definitely purchase the noose design again.

I liked them so much that I bought two of them. When securely wrapped around the bike while riding, they are just as stated and produce no noise. It's long enough and quite simple to open, close, and change the code. Very pleased thus far.Check out the linked video as well, which is available with much greater resolution on YouTube.

Ownership period: over two years; number of uses: several hundredEvery day, I took my bike to the TX Medical Center in Houston, locking it up in front of one of the busiest public hospitals. I occasionally left my bike in places with scant security surveillance, and on numerous occasions I did so overnight. It gives me great pleasure to inform that my bike has never been stolen or altered. This lock has a strong appearance and is probably a theft deterrent on its own. I enjoy the "KRYPTONITE"-emblazoned thick black sleeve's enclosure of the sturdy chain. There is no ambiguity regarding whether the heavy-duty locking mechanism is locked or unlocked thanks to its fine tuning. The spare key is convenient to have as a backup, and I registered mine so that I can get more if I ever lose one in the future.I have repeatedly used this lock, subjected it to intense heat and humidity as well as torrential rain, and it still appears to function just as well as when it was brand-new. I performed my homework before making a decision to purchase a bike lock, and I am obviously satisfied with the type and brand I chose. I advise using two different locks, such as a chain (like this one) and a solid bar, for optimal security. In this manner, a bike thief will require the use of two unique tools in order to steal your bike. Having said that, I found that using this chain alone to secure my bike was usually sufficient.

These are really cool things. The color options come first. Colors are one of the first things I look for since I love being able to give pretty much anything a distinctive appearance and feel. I bought the orange for the Mrs. and the blue for me. Both hues are perfect. The combination can be easily set, and the lock itself feels secure. The cable isn't the longest, but it's long enough for all I need with just one bike, and since the Mrs. and I commute together, we can link the cables together if we need a longer one to secure both bikes. The holder that mounts to the bike is the one thing that I adore most. There aren't many ideal locations to install it (I discovered that behind the seat facing outward toward the back was best), but once you do, mounting the cable lock into the holder is simple and you can remove it as needed. It is preferable to have the lock wrapped elsewhere or around the handle bars.I attempt to uncover at least one flaw or area for improvement every time. Sincerely, I haven't yet come across one. Very content.

I am aware that this lock is merely acting as a barrier and that it could likely be readily cut. Having saying that, I still believe it to be a fantastic purchase. I hope that a straightforward deterrent system will be sufficient because I live in a lovely location.Despite the fact that I adore the color selections, I chose the black/grey. Instead of being a flashy, exotic color, I just think it gives the impression of being a higher quality lock. You better believe I wanted pink.I've never used the mount. It would, in my opinion, obstruct the step-through. I keep it in a rear bag, but I can mount it if/when necessary. It's simple to use, and I wanted a 5-number code so I could easily switch it to something my friends will remember when they visit and use the bike: their ZIP code!If I discover that the product's quality and security fall short of my expectations, I will without a doubt update my evaluation. I'm generally satisfied with the purchase up until that point, and I really hope I don't have to.
Yes, U locks are easy to break. A lot of people have the misconception that U locks are unbreakable, but that is not the case. U locks can be broken with a variety of tools, including bolt cutters, saws, and hammers.
Yes, chain bike locks can be cut. However, it is not as easy as it sounds. There are a few things you need to know before you can cut through a chain bike lock. First, you need to have the right tools. A hacksaw or a bolt cutter will do the trick. Second, you need to know where to cut the lock. The best place to cut the lock is at the weakest point, which is usually near the keyhole. Finally, you need to be patient. Cutting through a chain bike lock takes time and effort.
Yes, you can lock your bike to a lamppost. There are a few things to keep in mind, though. Make sure the lamppost is made of sturdy material that your bike lock can securely attach to. Also, be aware of your surroundings and who or what could potentially tamper with your bike.
Chain locks are a popular choice for locking up bikes, as they are strong and can be wrapped around multiple parts of the frame. However, it is important to remember that no lock is unbreakable and that thieves may be able to cut through a chain if they have the right tools. For the best protection, chain locks should be used in combination with a U-lock.
One way to make your bike less attractive to thieves is to use a good quality lock. A chain lock is often best, as it is difficult to cut through. You should also try to park your bike in a well-lit area, as this will deter thieves. Finally, you can engrave your bike with your name or address, as this will make it more difficult for thieves to sell on.
Chain locks are usually made of hardened steel, which makes them more difficult to cut than a cable lock. However, chain locks can still be broken if hit with enough force.
